We had 2x 2003 CI5s at a place I used to work, they really were indestructible, one of them was ran from Northampton to Watford daily for 6 months with no water in it. The one I had was a little less abused, it would do about 85mph flat out empty, and still do about 80mph filled up to the roof with stuff. You could still buy them brand new up till 2005ish for under £4000, think they only came in burgundy or white.

Yep, they always sounded like a bag of hammers in a cement mixer but with the turbo they were quick and 50+mpg out of a 1.6 litre XUDT 306 loaded to the gunnels.. And by loaded I mean 180kg of books plus driver.
The engine still exists, it's now called the EW/DW engine which is essencially a modernized XU/XUD (although its petrol counterpart, the EW, no longer exists since 2011).
Yeah XUD engines are very reliable, pretty snappy for a naturally aspirated diesel. And they always were quite noisy to a worrying level. (especially with the bosh mechanical pump) XU engine, the gasoline version, is also very reliable, and makes a sound a little like worn out lifters out of the box. Not refined but reliable and simple.

I think that this is C15 built in France, because of single rear door. Also it has pretty interesting "fix" in the front. Factory C15 had headlights with separate blinkers in the bumper, but this one has headlights from Visa that have blinker built-in, so the holes for blinkers in bumper are covered with some metal

También tienen fama de oxidarse los italianos, fama merecida en muchos casos, pero los tempra y los tipo casi ninguno tienen óxido. Mercedes se oxida con facilidad, incluso en años recientes... Cuando daban garantía de 30 años anticorrosion.

Is because many people don't have access to the tools to do this stuff with and many people don't have the knowledge on timing one of these engines when the timing belt needs replacing. 😊
i actually know someone in my town that still drives one of these, this one is real sadj tho poor little thing, good job bringing it back to life. although i think the engine is the least of its worries 🤣

Both. A lot of companies did two or single berth campers on these - slower than an arthritic sloth but surprisingly comfy. Surprisingly they didn't do a pickup, at least in the UK. With a pickup you can have modular/cassette campers, that can slide off the bed and be stored.
It’s an XUD engine after all. As long there is some diesel it will run for ever and ever and ever.
Also needs something resembling oil in it. Even if it's the crappiest dirtiest one.

Drove on a road trip UK through Europe and back 2500km in 2 weeks in a C15 with no coolant cap or coolant (by accident). No problems or damage.

Actually the headlights with separate blinkers are from a post-facelift C15. Pre-facelife C15's front is identical to the Visa's

The similar Renault version is the Renault Express.
It was quite similar but not as reliable engine wise.

Timing belt change would not cost much if done by yourself.
@@temelonalso the water pump and thermostat has to be replaced as well. To the left of the crank pulley looks like the gear for the water pump. 😊

A common flaw of theses glass headlights.
You have to renew the glue.
I don't know what they used in factory but it wasn't very good.
