If I heard correctly, she was on prescriptions to reduce withdrawals while she was pregnant, and the baby was born addicted to THAT. So, for this pregnancy, she went to Methadone instead of the other one.
Yes addiction is a sad horrible thing… I feel sorry for the mom and baby… she clearly is trying she went from living under the bridge to having a car and a job and trying to get into rehab…. Props to her for trying… seems like the cop could care less though

I was an addict, prescribed pain killers for a long time after breaking my back in a car accident and I weaned off immediately when I found out I was pregnant. My daughter was born w nothing in her system and no withdrawal obviously. Idk how anyone could willingly let a poor baby go through that hell smfh. So no, not all addicts are evil and some of us did nothing wrong besides being born w a predisposition to addiction and follow a doctors orders after being the victim in an accident. It can happen that easily.

Yep that fatal combo got me when I was 18. I was already messed up on zans and must have thought I grabbed another but it was a methadone. Was found in the morning by my 9 month pregnant sister .. over a week in a coma and then a crisis unit for 2 weeks.
Methadone doesn't make you nod once you've let it get in your system. Takes about a week. Benzos added is the killer.

I agree with that and it can't stand people like this who throw a fit like this as if it's everyone else's problem but I don't know, I kinda feel for her in this circumstance. She's on the methadone in order to get clean and now she's losing her car she sleeps in for the very drug she's using to get clean so on top of everything else she's homeless. I understand if someone is under the influence they can't turn a blind eye but it just doesn't sit right with me to make things harder on someone trying to move forward.
And no husband. 36 and just had a baby. Was 8 months pregnant and living under a bridge.

Not always. My brother didn’t blame anyone but himself. Fortunately, he finally went into recovery by going to NA. He’s been off any drugs or alcohol (he almost never drank) for thirty-seven years now. And there are others like him. But he never drove, always took public transportation (our city has great transportation). He doesn’t even know how to drive, and I don’t, either. Our parents didn’t, either.
Alcoholics are the worst for that.
Addicts know how to play the system, they test the boundaries are far a they can to see what they can get away with. They also always wear the victim hat; poor me, pour me another.
They can definitely be manipulative...that's how they get what they want. But underneath it all is someone who hates themselves.

She's the epitome of hypocrite by blaming the cop for arresting her when she was previously arrested, yet her daughter was born with DT's from her heroin use. Her temper tantrum is uncalled for.
If you listened, it wasn't heroin. She has fibromyalgia and was prescribed pain meds by a doctor before knowing she was pregnant. Stopping those medicines when you're pregnant is more dangerous to the baby than it is continuing them. She's in treatment trying to do the right thing.
You cannot get DT's from heroin, do your research. It kind of makes you look ignorant, try not to have a temper tantrum.

She has a lot of problems and explaining them does sound like she is a victim. I do think she was purposedly playing the victim because she knew she was busted but also I think she's been dealt some shitty health issues as well.
For example, I have a lot of health issues and people are always surprised when they learn about them because I rarely speak of them on purpose. That is because I don't want to sound like a victim. People would have opinions already formed just because of what I was saying. My Mom once said to me, "You have the worst luck with your health." My response..."nope...I have great luck because otherwise I'd be dead."
I remember one co-worker heard me on the phone with my Mom and I was bitching about an issue and when I got off the phone she told me I was a hypochondriac. How anyone could assume that from hearing one side of a conversation is beyond me. My response? "Wow...I didn't know you got a medical license...why are working here?"" Shut her right up and another co-worker spoke up and said...."mic drop." Of course, to her continued embarrassment I started laughing so loudly...and trust me when I say that my "loud" laugh is really loud and rather obnoxious! it was great!! She's just a know it all immature brat so I didn't pay her any mind but I still roll my eyes when I think about it.

I used to work with a guy on methadone. He would drive our truck to the clinic every morning before we started deliveries. Dude drove that truck all day and was a great driver.

If u choose to have a baby and u choose to do drugs you should be required and forced by law to remain in rehab until your baby is born.

She no longer has custody of the child she only gets to see it once a month, so what can be done is being done. If you want the laws to change contact your congressman.

I'm a recovering addict on methadone and the only ppl I know personally that nod out on methadone are ppl who are still using, ppl taking benzo's with it and ppl who's dose is way too high.

Tell me about it. My mother was a drunk and all of us, all FIVE of us, have problems of one sort or another. I'm the fortunate one - I was two months prem and that was two months intra-uterine alcohol poisoning I was spared. But I also had Neonatal Distress Syndrome and THAT caused problems. So I'm not a fan of booze.

I was hopeful at the start that the woman was really trying to get off drugs and get her life straightened out, but as she made more and more excuses regarding every test and then became really belligerent, started to blatantly lie and accuse the officer, fight and disrupt the hospital, it was clear she had been saying what she thought would get her out of a DUI charge. Glad her child is not in her care. Hope she’s able to break the grip of addiction.

Thanks for being the only comment on here with some actual knowledge. I've been on for awhile and I can't tell a difference between 2 hours before I take mine or 2 hours after I take it.. because I'm at a proper dose

@@FrunkensteinVonZipperneck I wouldn’t take a lifelong heroin addicts recommendations as to what a therpeutic opiate blocker does and does not do. The OP is 100% correct in that the proper dose of methadone won’t knock you out. “On the Nod” is a term for being high on opiates period. The issue is that most addicts don’t use methadone to fix their lives. They use it as a way to get high when they can’t get heroin or other preferred opiates. IF they actually use as intended and don’t keep asking for increases, the proper dose actually makes you feel relatively normal.
As a foster mother I see moms like this all the time, sadly.
I WAS filling some empathy for her until she started going off on him and calling him names and blaming everything on him. I really hope she got in some trouble for threatening him. There was no question about that one. I went back and listened and yes, you did decline. I don’t know what the voices in your head are telling you, but that’s not what you said to them.

But 39 hours of labor with a c- section, I could barely walk straight up at the end of 2 weeks after the operation. Needless to say, I only had 1 child. That birth scared me from ever having another baby. People told me a 2nd baby would be easier. But, I wasn't going to risk that pain ever again.

Addicts are never “ex” addicts. I’m an addict and she seems like she was on too high a methadone dose and 2as completely frustrated and fed up with the fact that she pulled over and this was a pretty bullshit scenario. They definitely could have cut her a bit of a break. I also hope she gets the help she needs though. Methadone can be a huge difference in an addicts life.

She’s made not one but TWO addicted babies at birth - neither of whom she has custody of now, thank God. However, she did that, knowingly, twice. I worked with a woman who’s husband was addicted to painkillers due to an accident he suffered while working with the fire department.
One day heading home from methadone clinic, he stopped by two pharmacies to pick up Vicodin, he took thirty Vicodin pills on top of the methadone and he killed a woman and and almost killed himself.
Eventually he ended up dying of an overdose.

When he 1st asked her about taking other meds she went down a list then during the sfst's she told him she doesn't take any other meds, then on the 2nd test she says "i have fiber myalgia im on medication for it" What a complete lier!
She also said she has a seizure disorder but doesn’t take those meds. She shouldn’t be allowed to drive.

She was not sleeping because she's homeless. She had the car running while slumped over the steering wheel. She said she was on pre-gaben and then says she's on nothing but methadone. She knows she shouldn't be driving. She could walk or get a bus to the chemist. I have fibromyalgia. It's not in one part of the body. She said it was in her legs. It affects your whole body.
I can vouch for that! I have fibromyalgia, it’s throughout the body. It’s treatable.
My granddaughter is struggling with addiction. I want to help her, but there is nothing I can do. Just pray and sigh.
I'm praying for you and your granddaughter. Have you looked into NA meetings for family members of addicts? They're wonderful

As somone in recovery who was on methadone for 10 months they def dont tell you that you shouldnt drive.
It is a bit messed up because she did do the right thing by pulling over when she felt her dose hitting her harder than she expected.

The main thing is HE GOT HER OFF THE ROAD, so she couldn't hurt/kill someone (maybe someone you love) driving! So what does it matter what drugs she's mixing?
Being a former addict, at any time I could have a cocktail of 5-6-7 different drugs. So while these people are freaking out you want cops to identify, and diagnose them on top of what they're already doing? THEY ARE NOT COUNSELORS, OR THERAPISTS, THEY ARE COPS! Who already have enough on their plate doing a very hard job and you think they should HAVE TO DO EVEN MORE???
