Thank you. This was very helpful. My dog was diagnosed with CKD last year, IRIS stage 2, his SDMA has been 20, 18 and 19 in 3 tests, after an year his UPC ratio shot up to 2.5, within a month it is 13.5. His creatanine is 1.5 and other parameters are normal. Is this prognosis dire? My vet says not to worry but continue kidney supplements.

I'm so glad you found this video! However, it sounds like your dog has a different diagnosis (ie CKD) so although there's a decent amount of information overlap, there are some differences.
I don't yet have a video dedicated to CKD; it is on my list of topics to tackle, I just haven't gotten to it yet! I also can't give any sort of information about a specific animal over RUclips, legally I am limited to sharing general information. This makes sense, of course, because as a veterinarian I need to have the physical exam plus diagnostic test results plus the medical history etc before it's possible to give information that's more specific to an individual animal.
I hope that your dog does well, and that their CKD progresses as slowly as possible. You can always consult an internal medicine specialist if you want a second opinion or if your GP veterinarian has done what they can. 💜🐾

Excellent. My breed has a genetic predisposition to PLN (thankfully we now have some genetic testing) and I found this a very, very useful video for owners. Thank you for so clearly explaining why annual blood testing and urinalysis is so critical to outcome.

Hi can you please cover “Two Crazy Cat Ladies”? They talk about cat facts and nutrition and the nutrition part is heavily based on pseudoscience and myths. People tend to believe anything they say without questioning their expertise.

Great video. My 16 y.o. American cocker spaniel has PLN. Bloodwork shows normal Creatinine (I have the results). Vet specified Telmasartan 10mg and commercial CKD diet. We're struggling with both and he pulled her off the med. We started cooking for her and seek formulation. He's referred us to a vet nutritionalist. Vet wants a 2nd urnine test but no search for underlying cause. My pet has lost 20% body weight and is hungry. What a mess. Any direction / questions? Thanks!

It may be appropriate to consider consulting a veterinary internal medicine specialist for additional help.
From your description I'm unclear if your GP veterinarian is thinking your dog has chronic kidney disease or PLN, and the medical work up/treatment plans will vary a bit depending on what the diagnosis is. The internal medicine specialist can guide you on options like renal ultrasound and blood pressure monitoring etc if necessary. Remember that nausea is often present so trialing a medication (like Cerenia) to treat nausea is an important part of getting your dog to be able to eat.
I wish you and your dog all the best.

Pet was diagnosed with PLN. Appetite is good. Is there an online home prepared food formulation resource that will take into account PLN and / or results from bloodwork? @@VetMedCorner

I appreciate the objectivity with which you approach the subjects and how you deliver the information on this channel. It is always necessary Wonder if it is possible for you to comment on the viral Sophie from Ukraine stuff. A lot of confusion about whether dogs used to living mostly on their own with incidental human interaction are to be "saved" by well-meaning bumbling people.

Thank you so much for this comment - I will add the topic to my list! It's definitely a complicated one and I'm not certain how much research we have on it... I will look into it though! Thank you!!!
