It's also from the era of cooling system parts that were crafted from hardened pieces of Velveeta cheese.
I remember these well. BMW quickly learned there just weren’t that many buyers willing to pay more for less. It’s like producing a car today with only a primer coating, touting you’ll “save 10lbs without paint”, then charging $15k more for the exclusivity.
I had a 1996 328is 2dr and loved it. The styling to me looks better than the newer models.
Tommy is my fave over at TFL. The guy has good taste in cars and trucks!
Always loved Beamers from the 90s to early 2000s. Such simple design with amazing performance 🔥
I love these quick takes on interesting vehicles.
Omg that is awesome! If I only realized back in the day how rare they'd be
Whether it is or not, the E36 M3 seems like the perfect car.
Does this have the beer refrigerator in it?
The e30m3 also has problems selling stateside. A big reason(among a few) why the e36m almost didnt make it here.
And still the EU spec M3 GT blows it out of the water because it had an actual M engine instead of an M52b32. the only reason why people pay so much for them is because there were so few made, not cause it is that good. The LTW also has lighter, forged bmw style 24 wheels, aluminium doors and a shorter diff ratio than other m3's
Horsepower difference was relevant back then but now they're both considered under powered. And the European spec had a terrible sequential transmission
@@kevinbarry71 300hp is not underpowered. The sequential transmission was optional and only a very small percentage of cars got it since we don't tend to buy automatics in europe. If you want to compare it, the mustang GT of that time made 215hp out of a 5.0
@@joshkiej6601 that horsepower was way up at the top of the rev band. Which isn't useful to most people. Particularly Americans who don't tend to rev the snot out of their engines in every day driving. That engine was also significantly more expensive than the version in the United States. But the primary reason it wasn't offered in the United States is that the Germans couldn't figure out how to get it to pass emissions. At that point catalytic converter's were still fairly new to the Germans
@@kevinbarry71 false. Catalytic converters had been used for over 10 years in europe by bmw in the 3 series. The m3 GT made its max torque at 3900rpm, so not that high in the rev range at all. The e36 m3 was never supposed to go to the us and since they expected low sales, they'd rather just build off an epa compliant engine than make another engine epa compliant. And even with that significantly worse engine, it still made 25 more hp than the mustang GT
@@joshkiej6601 sorry you don't recognize hyperbole. Catalytic converter's were in the United States in 1975. The BMW is also a lot more expensive than that crappy mustang. Although they had roughly equal mechanical and interior longevity
100k for a car thats missing features thats dumb
I remember driving my buddies 97 white m3 with white leather.. a reaal drivers car.. raced a 2000 4 door gsr integra with it.. he thought he was gonna take me.. i’m sure you can guess what happened!
He hit the NOZ too soon? 🚗💨
Driver’s car!
The e36 ain't that cheap no more. Seems the kids have drifted it back into the more expensive side of cheap
Over $100k? For an E36 M3 with that crappy US only engine that’s only ~100kg down in weight? No f’ing way. I could buy a lot of car for that $100k
Won't be as rare, esp in terms of e36
Idc its a bmw
Would love to see more of Nathan’s Mitsubishi Montero
Why? It’s a simple 90’s suv.. there’s NOTHING special about it whatsoever. It’s boring..
We have a contender for one of the ugliest (belly button) steering wheels.
It's a shame when this car lost sound deadening materials and not a lot of luxury features
