Excellent review of that kit Dave, thanks. Best of luck with your paper mill complex for the new layout. Like you, I find it is much easier to visualize the space utilization when you have the actual structures before you.
Dave that’s a nice kit and at good price. I would like one of those kits but I have no where to put one on my layout. Maybe when I do a expansion I can add paper company to the layout. I noticed the picture of the highland cow. My son has 4 highland cows and 1 bull. Enjoy your self with the new build. Thanks for sharing. Have a good day.
Thank you Tommy. Yep if I wasn't rebuilding my layout I wouldn't have a place either. My wife loves cows especially those kinds. Thanks for watching and commenting
Finally a review on a paper mill kit. I did Walthers Superior kit many many times. There are many issues with it as much as most Walthers kits usually have. The corrugate building is the recovery boiler. Sadly, Walthers never did the Kraft mill building in N scale. As paper mills are usually big complexes, I'm mainly using that kit as a start up. I'm personnaly using the conveyors coming with coal kits in HO scale. As they're covered with round corrugated top, it can be use for more then coal purpose to my point of view. I customized mine much longer than they come as a kit. It gives them a bit more realism. I'm also painting them a very pale green color like those seen in paper mill plants. Thanks for sharing it with us. There are not that many videos made on model paper mills. This is probably the most interesting industry to serve on a model railroad layout !
Thank you for this wonderful repl. I really appreciate it. When I finally get to my peninsula addition completed I hope to scratch build some support buildings. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Dave, It is a nice big kit for our scale. I used parts of the kit for different purposes than they were supposed to be, for example, the tall building is used as a power plant and the large tanks are used for storage at a food processor plant. Nice video overview of the kit…..John
I noticed that also with the my paper mill kit. I have it set in place on my layout. but it's easy to take up when I start the painting and weatheering process. Fun part.
Really useful review. I know what you mean about warped panels on card kits. Sometimes but not always, I have used sheets of plasticard to strengthen and straighten them out. That does add to the cost of course. Great idea to incorporate some interior lighting. Great stuff. Stay safe Sir
Thanks for the kind words Peter. I think a lot of it is when someone subs but doesn't watch many videos. Then RUclips kicks them off as your subs. Who knows? Thanks for watching and leaving the very nice comment!
Hi Dave brilliant review 👍 I love working with card Metcalfe kits on my layout, however might check out the American card kits which would fit in nice on my UK/US layout Thanks for sharing Dave much appreciate it for learning.
That’s certainly a jumbo sized industry. Kit looks very good. I have the Glacier Gravel model. There are 4 conveyor sections similar to the one that you showed. Two sections get glued together resulting in a pair of longer conveyor pieces.
What a coincidence! I started building this kit about a year ago, but stopped and then recently resumed building. I’m converting the pulp building into a coal fired power station, probably going to use other parts and sections from other kits. To answer your question, I have the Walthers coal flood loader and the conveyor is 8 1/2” x 3/4” x 3/4” (l x w x h) and there are 2 sections which means you can add the 2 together and have a total length of 17” (8.5” x 2). Hope that helps.
Hi ya Dave. Nice kit. All the Walthers kits seem to have some issues. In regards fit and finish. You did a great job over coming them. I have two separate kits that include conveyor belts. Each was 3 1/2 inches long by just under an inch square in the opening. I hope that helps. See ya.
Thanks Dave. I have been thinking about this kit as I have a printing company kit also from walthers (I am an Offset Printer) So far it looks pretty good. Cheers 🍻.
I had some of the same issues with my papermill kit. I put the refinery kit with mine just to give a little more industrial look. This kit is pretty big and has lots of extra parts. Can't wait to see how you lay it out
Glad to see you back and working on the beginning of your new layout. Can you show an overall video of the kit on a table or something? All Walthers kits have pretty bad instructions and always have parts left over. Looking forward to new videos from you.
That's a nice looking structure,I know from experience that alot of kits are warped. Some of the bachmann stuff is warped kinda bad.Nice review of the kit.
Hey Dave, looks like a lot of frames in the windows of the brick building. I did a kit long ago and I looked for an easy way to color the window frames without too much trouble. I tried a black Sharpie to color the frames which worked out pretty well, just be careful not to mark up the window panes. Give that a try on some scrap material and see what you think. At least the Sharpie was easier than trying to use a paint brush. Take care and be well.
Hey Dave have you heard of a company named Kirbi? I have some HO buildings I threw in the mix on My O27 display . I just throw them in the mix, gives a bit of a illusion of some depth .
Yes I have. I actually have one on my layout. It is a tad small for N scale but it does fit in by itself. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!
When you get a kit with warped walls you can lay them on a cookie sheet and put them in the oven on 125 for 15-30 minutes or so and they'll flatten out. Leave them on the cookie sheet when you take them out until is cooled completely and then you'll have flat walls you don't have to fight.
I know what you mean about warped sides 😂😂…great job with the structures…after assembly, the base still didn’t fit properly? Looking forward to seeing how you model them on the layout…I have similar structures….maybe get some tips from you
Looks an ok kit Dave. The British plastic kits proved to be very poor, I only have One on my layout. So I used a mix of ceramic and cardboard. Just paint the inside black on the model before fitting lights
Yep I always paint the inside first. I have never put together a cardboard kit but the ones I have seen on RUclips look very nice. Thanks for stopping by!
@@davestrains6816 I didn't know at first but quickly learnt to paint the inside. The ceramic ones are a bigger to get in to, I have had to carefully still bigger holes to get access
