Jasper National Park Wildfire 2024

Recently I made a day trip to Jasper National Park to get a first hand look at the damage that was caused by the wildfire that occurred in July 2024. Having made many visits to the park over the last 60 years for camping, skiing or hiking, I found this trip to be a very very difficult, emotional experience. What I found was almost every thing I cherished about the park in the area of the fire was destroyed or left in a very poor condition. Since my return home I have been trying to come to grips with what I saw on my trip and I have come to realize that I have to keep in mind that, like Waterton National Park after its wildfire, Jasper is going through a rebirth, which will grow from the ashes and provide us with new and interesting views and adventures.
