@@DR650-x2j this is absolutely lie. Brazil, South Africa and Russia are not rich countries but definitely can hold major tournaments without major problems. Don't be stupid
The other contenders for this World Cup were the US, Japan, South Korea and Australia - all of whom have hosted either a World Cup or Olympics in the last 30 years. None of these countries would have needed to waste any time or human lives building new stadiums from scratch and could have focussed on upgrading their current facilities. None of them would have had to deal with logistical problems like "Where will people sleep?" or "How do we air condition the outdoors so the players don't die in the middle of a game?" None of them would have been the subject of a sports-washing debate that has made the whole football ecosystem that much more toxic. FIFA knew all this when the decision was made and they still made it.
It is okay to construct new stadiums but almost everyone in Qatar lives in Doha. A World Cup was never hosted in a single city. It would have made at least some sense with multiple smaller Gulf nations combined.

I went out to Qatar in 2014-2015 for work, and was involved some of the early ground engineering for the Lusail Iconic Stadium where the WC final will be held. It was literally a patch of desert 20 mins outside of Doha, the plan was to build the whole new city of Lusail specifically to host the final. The Qataris have basically built a city of (theoretically) 100,000 people just so they could have some extra venues. I’m pretty intrigued at whether they’ve managed to actually populate it or whether it’ll be a futuristic ghost town.
Lusail is already being inhabited, I'm not sure exactly what's the percentage but I think it's rapidly increasing in population especially because it has special laws for house ownership for non-Qataries
Im not so sure. I attended Rio 2016 and it wasnt great. The stadiums not good quality or half finished, logistics and transport were poor on the whole and generally nobody there cared about it, only the football aspect. But i remember team GB had been told not to complain so as to not look like whingers. I can see the same happening here and FIFA getting away with this.

@@berlinocelot I think it makes a lot of sense creating more of a regional focus rather than one based on countries' borders. This opens up many possibilities for smaller nations (who might still have a large presence in football) to organize such a large tournament. In that respect, a Gulf-state World Cup would have actually made sense, combining Qatar with Bahrein and the UAE. This would also be more sustainable as less facilities would have to be built just for the World Cup, to be left to fall apart afterwards and would mean less teams, personnel and fans have to be flown around the country (of course this is not the problem for Qatar, but it was for Russia and Brasil).
2:34 "the country continues to build hotels at a frensim rate", besides the safety regulations related to this, which I want to believe won't be problematic, one can only fear for the future of those infrastructures on the aftermath of such an event. Putting on extra police and building two new stadiums and a few hotels is not the same as having to build 99% of what is needed, from scratch, in a country that has no capacity for the event, in any metric whatsoever, already in place and that has never even held a global event before.

They transformed many desert places into cities. This should be same.
Lusail is already being inhabited, I'm not sure exactly what's the percentage but I think it's rapidly increasing in population especially because it has special laws for house ownership for non-Qataries

1st this nightmare of a World Cup and then European super league lite coming up in 2024/25.
Sigh things are only gonna get worse from here on out
Champions League consisting both league format and knockout stage in same edition. I cannot understand how clubs agreed to this crazy idea. Players can protest but in their minds they also know these clubs are paying them 100k+ pounds / week
This World Cup wasn't designed to welcome fans and travellers of any kind. But when it was granted in 2010 the English media spent all its energy protesting about 2018 being awarded to Russia rather than the outrageous nature of the Qatar World Cup. So here were are, nearly 12 years later.
This is not the fault of "the English media". The blame lies squarely at FIFA's door.
By the way, that evil English media was at the forefront of uncovering FIFA's corruption...

So in other words, the stadiums will be empty because fans will have nowhere to stay. Regular fans cannot afford it. Which means that only the Super rich and wealthy elitists can go to the games.
FIFA Corruption At It's Finest... 🤨
Dail Mail has a video of an Iranian fan who was housed at a metal container! It was as good as a shoebox. Plus, there's fans staying at plastic tents, with everything just basic - many are just disappointed that such a rich country, could put up such ordinary acomodation facilities. It basically means, if you are a FIFA officaial or 1 of the sponsors - you get top notch hotels, otherwise fend for yourself.

This makes about as much sense as the US hosting the Cricket World Cup
Yeah but at least the us has the facilities and size to host matches
Not really. You see accommodation would never be a problem because 1) Cricket World Cup only has 10 teams and bar fans of 2 or 3 nationalities won't turn up in huge numbers. 2) US have enough accomodations already.
Also West Indies are already a cricketing nation hence they already have many stadiums. If the US really really need to host some games they only need a stadium or 2 which I think they can make in 4 years time.
@@sohagdas8351 the world cup form 2026 will have 16 teams

With enough money, FIFA would let Aliens host the World Cup in Galaxy then there reason is, to promote football to the Aliens🤣🤣🤣
With only 5 months to go, I sure hope that the preps are on schedule for the world cup. I am anticipating fans having to pay ridiculous amounts of money for services that are limited in supply. It's good for tourism and business but I wish all this was concluded sooner. This World Cup is one that not many fans are looking forward to. My best to the Qatari people, they are doing their best but FIFA should consider all these logistics in future awards.

How do FIFA executives and the Royal Qatar family sleep after the death of 6,500 migrant workers? That's my question! Just so we could watch football in the desert?! I'm ashamed, this is not sport anymore!

6500 in comparison to half a million , Yikes
And that’s not mentioning the centuries of colonialism of the west ;)
Maybe they can house the players in the same buildings and conditions as the people who built the stadiums, maybe that will change their mind about going there in the first place.
I was considering going to this world cup (despite the human rights concerns) - thought it would be a very interesting experience. The accommodation situation just sounded like a complete shitshow though and was the last straw for my waivering interest. Will save it for USA/Mex/Canada instead...

I went to Korea/Japan on 02 and Germany in 06, but South Africa was too far, Brazil was too expensive, and Russia, was, well, Russia, never going to happen. FIFA should’ve awarded this World Cup to Australia, but you know, bribery is real.
As an australian we're getting the olympics, rugby world cup and the women's world cup, missing out on the fifa world cup aint too bad for us, they probably should have just given it to some European country that loves soccer like italy or spain or someone like that.
