Pete´s come back in 2nd set breaker is something. I can still feel chills on my back. What great tennis to watch. This kind of serve an volley battle is all gone. What a pity. I miss u Pete.
He was good enough to be a consistent top 5 player. It's unfortunate he had so many knee and back problems. It stopped him from building momentum during his career. Sampras hated playing him, which is a great compliment of course.
Krajicek gave Sampras the most problems back then. In fact He was the only player to hav a superior head to head over Sampras. I remember when he beat Sampras en route to his one nd only Slam at Wimbledon. He just blew Sampras off the court. That serve was smoking that day. I think Krajicek had probably the biggest serve back in the day. It was literally unreturnable at times.
The moment Krajicek slipped 2nd set tie breaker 6-3 advantage due to casual attitude, he lost the match. It was mental battle. Sampras had slight advantage of having won more title. Unless the opponent became nervous, it is impossible to break the Serve. Krajicek lost the battle & subsequently made unforce errors. Pat Rafter lost 2000 Wimbledon Final to Sampras from similar situation.
Great highlights. Tennis of the 90s makes me so nostalgic. That being said, when comparing these older matches to today, you really see how the slowing down of the courts has forced players to evolve and have virtually no weaknesses. When I learned tennis in the 80s/90s, you could get away with having a weak return and weak backhand and mediocre movement, as long as you had a good serve and netplay. Nowadays, you need every shot and perfect movement is vital. I do think they've made the courts too slow though, and now long protracted rallies dominate. It gets a little boring.
Well, to me this is no more exciting than today's tennis. You serve and finish the point in 2-3 strokes, sometimes even one. Points are super fast. There's no struggle at all.
If that were true Tsonga would n't have been a top 5 player, difference is the the racquets , strings surfaces have become more uniform and there are very few players who are surface specialists and can do really well being one. players still have weak backhands relative to their forehands it's just slower courts means more rallies where today talent have to better protect their weaker side
Sampras' one handed backhand on the baseline was weak, and would have been easily destroyed by baseliners with heavy topspin like Djokovic, Nadal, Thiem etc...
@@henrykam7024 Djokovic hits a relatively flatter ball, and Sampras backhand was weaker in comparison to his forehand but it was not a weak shot or he wouldn't have done as well as he did vs baseliners of his time. He beat them because he was be able to rob them of time
weak return, weak backhand and mediocre movement?? dude, here Krajicek is better in these categories than any of the new gen players these days. He would shove them off the court, with posdible exception of Thiem.
These serves-n-volleys is one thing; precision passes by Pete especially off the backhand is the stuff of the heavens. What quick twitching to make those laser-like precise shots with millisec of reflexes; just wow...
the way Kraijcek sets up the point at 6:36 with great timing.. returning low on the feet.. moving well, great backhand down the line.. wonder why he didn't win much more than he has.
@@pietrpiepir6444 Depends. Was he doping when he beat Pete? No. So his 5 set wins at the USO, Grand slam cup and even his 5 set loss at Wimbledon all count.

Krajicek had 6-4 head to head over Sampras. Had his biggest wins in Wimbledon and Stuttgart. He was Sampras++ against Sampras. Powerful serve, strong volleys, and better backhand single-handed.
Krajicek. A guy with a monster serve, but also the ability to do things with it. Unlike modern big servers who just serve and hang back. Today's tennis is so boring, when compared to tennis like this.
I like baseline play more than serve & volley. It is the safest option for a tennis player. That proves why baseliners like Rafa and Djokovic have won 20 plus grand slam titles compared to Sampras' 14. Serve & volley is always risky, boring to watch and is now obsolete for good in today's tennis style.
If you see carefully most of the crowd left after 3rd set…Guess got bored with that same type of tennis of big serve first volley and finish either with the volley or passing shot..No point lasted more than 3 shots 😂
Two guys who 1) serve and volley 2) have one hand backhands 3) aren't grunting. This is video from another planet to today's players.
Compared to 90% baseline only matches today
Exactly!! Contemporary tennis is unwatchable
Fantastic tennis to watch. Pleasure for my eyes.

What a monster serve Krajicek had! And a superb topspin backhand!
My favorite player Sampras! Thanks for this now.we can see old matches back in the time where RUclips didn’t exist
Still remember Krajicek defeating Sampras at Wimbledon. That was one spectacular run
Krajicek was incredible talented, good base line shots, monster serve and athletic in spite of his height. He could have won a couple more GS
My favorite service motion of all time! Krajicek!
"Pistol" Pete. A real, war machine! 💪🎾🥇🏆
I guess I forgot how good of a game Krajicek had. Solid all around game. Great serve and volleyer.

He sort of "out Pete'd" Pete when they played. The big difference between them was Sampras was more consistent of course, but also way more clutch.
@@pietrpiepir6444 Clutch is a good way to describe Pete. I guess that's the difference between really, really good and great.
@@bradcordell5562 Totally. It's what I admire most about Pete. I think Pete is the most mentally clutch all time great, along with Nole.

There has never been a more beautiful serve than Krajicek's.
Absolutely!
Correction: There has never been a more beautiful serve than Sampras.
When it comes to speed it's Krajicek but when it comes to beauty it's always Pistol Pete
Nothing that beautiful about his serve.. Looked a bit awkward actually
Of course Sampras got revenge for his defeat at Wimbledon in 1996. He always got revenge.

Great match from Sampras!
By any chance do you have 2000 US Open QF of Todd Martin vs Thomas Johansson? Would love to watch it.
Krajicek and korda gave pete really tough matches at both Wimbledon and the US open (krajicek beat pete at Wimbledon, korda beat him at the US open)
Korda was a doper though, so that one shouldn't count against PETE

Surely there was more to this match than aces.
These old tennis pros, teaching noobs.. old fossils think they can beat anyone... absolutely no chance against Sampras . Get rekt
Zero chance. Zero
Two most boring players ever
How's that? 🤔🤔
That's Nadal and Djokovic.
Offensive tennis is so boring! It should be forbidden!
I like being bored.
