Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is an action-adventure game developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. A sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, it was released on PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on April 28, 2023. The game received generally favorable reviews.
The story of Cal Kestis continues in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor™, a third-person, galaxy-spanning, action-adventure game from Respawn Entertainment, developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. This narratively driven, single-player title picks up 5 years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order™ and follows Cal’s increasingly desperate fight as the galaxy descends further into darkness. Pushed to the edges of the galaxy by the Empire, Cal will find himself surrounded by threats new and familiar. As one of the last surviving Jedi Knights, Cal is driven to make a stand during the galaxy’s darkest times - but how far is he willing to go to protect himself, his crew, and the legacy of the Jedi Order?

What program is that on the top left to see performance?
Review scores and review text are wholly distinct things: So, PC Gamer can trash the game in its written review all day long, but as long as it feeds an "8" or better into the review aggregators, the publishers won't bristle at it and revoke access.
@Se7enDaze it's xbox game bar it's built into windows 10 and 11 you press Windows key and g at the same time to use it but I should warn you on windows 10 it's not always the most accurate
Really? VSync my dude?!
Like, it's because a game is more than optimization
And when you're a casual console gamer like the rest of us, you won't have any of those "problems". There's more to a game than frames per second.
It’s awesome that you’re taking your viewer’s feedback in reviewing with a more average setup. You can totally make a series of reviews comparing the experience on top-of-the-line setup and the average joe’s setup.
Buddy I can assure you the average joe doesn't have a 3070 lol more like 1080 or lower.
@@runforest 😂 get out of my house
Its funny higher end graphics cards are having more problems in some cases
@@runforest try 1650 🤦♂️
i find it pretty odd that hes able to push over 60FPS when im pretty sure digital foundry couldnt go above 60fps on a 4090 system. Something seems weird there. Not sure what overlay hes using but how can a channel dedicated to performance and benchmarking not reach over 60fps on a similar rig with resolution dropped and all settings bottomed out.
I just wanna say thank you for testing it on an more average/mid tier hardware. It just gives a more authentic feel as well because it applies to more people. Great video as usual
Yeah, as much as I like Digital foundry, it gets annoying they only ever seem to test things on 4090’s at 4k.
@@chimeron260 Not true. For one example they also tested TLOU PC port with rtx 2070 alongside 4090 if I remember correctly
there is a new patch NOW... fixing low utilization of cpu cores without RT, my 9700k went from 50 to 75fps

Can't wait to play this...when it's half the price and works properly. Thanks for the review.
So glad I didn’t fall for the hype
The cards can't play next gen games. Nevermind the wasted $70. It's the wasted $1200 on a subpar GPU. The price of current GPUs may come down but they still can't game.
@@L9MN4sTCUk it's not the cards, it's the optimization on the game. look at his GPU only running at 40-60%. the devs released a trashheap of a game
@@SnafuWT I‘m not sure about your personal experience but I‘ve been playing this since the day it came out. Other than some frame drops and some minor weird shader issues, it‘s an awesome experience for me. Also running a mid-tier system.
@@kaawoonaa9144 some people can even consider 20 fps "playable" but the real ones that actually have a passion for gaming pay thousands of dollars for hardware and 70$ for a game yet it performs poorly
Just found your channel while browsing for TLOU content and now watch regularly. I love how much detail you go into.
he's really good isn't he.
One of the best reviewers I know, you have found a gem mate
I found him a few years ago because of the crazy detailed Assassins Creed Odyssey critique and been watching ever since

bro same!!! stumbled upon his TLOU 2 critique a few months ago and I've never left lol
Thanks for including more realistic everyday mortal human being hardware in your PC game reviews. Its highly necessary and appreciated.
You should have frametimes in the left corner as well, it’s a good way to visualize stutters. Even if the framerate says 100 it can often feel a lot lower or worse due to frametimes spikes that happen when frames aren’t delivered “on time”
I could not wait for this review. You're the best.
Take a shot every time Luke brings up the 4090 🍻

@@allbboss are you that dense?

@Roc jealous of impractical hardware when I play at 1080p yeah no
Thanks for this, really helping out people. I broke my ankle yesterday and my first full day with it but this really helped me keep my mind off it
Thank you for doing this, I was really curious
For me, one of the worst parts about a game launching broken like this is that it almost never gets coverage when it's finally fixed. For example, to this day, 2.5 years after its launch, I STILL see people on reddit asking if Cyberpunk 2077 is good yet. I really wish some outlets would cover big patches of broken games and announce when it's properly playable.
Now for Jedi Survivor I'm going to have to look in steam forums and subreddits every week or two until I see people saying it's been fixed on PC because I don't want to have a buggy laggy stuttering experience as my first playthrough. Respawn can have my money as soon as they actually finish the game.
@The Rotten💯 Thats why you have play testers and feedpack options. So that the players can tell you about problems in the game like theyre doing right now
@The Rotten💯 i was coverign the part in which you said that whoever would have to play a good chunk of the game which is not true because alot of regular players and testers are already doing that and as you can see theres tons of yt videos and forums about these issues.
@The Rotten💯 Im kinda busy trying to optimise my PC for jedi survivor right now
So glad we have honest people like luke to tell the things what truly are
Some of the best dialogue in the game was between the droids imo
naw it was rick's scream, may he rest in peace
Hahaha for sure all the dialogue was hilarious

I enabled rebar last night and it made a significant difference for me, but I need to do more testing.
Played for about 30 minutes, huge boss fight, 60 frames locked the whole time.
I need to test on Koboh in the town. That's where I've had the most performance issues.
Curious if other players have tested with it on vs off.
Theres a stutter when entering some new areas and one at the very beginning of cut scenes. There is also a really bad memory leak, which may have been patched today, but I doubt it. Restarting the game helps get it back to "normal" - also switching settings mid game apparently gums up the gears so in my experience I restart after that too.
To avoid loading screens, games load assets during cutscenes. Sometimes, the graphics are pushed to a higher standard during cutscenes too. But since the GPU was not used, i bet for the loading of assets, making the CPU overwhelmed and the FPS tanking.
Stuff like this is one of the reasons why I didn't care when games raised their price to 70 bucks. They always launch broken. By the time the game is fixed and playable you can get it anywhere from 20 to 70 percent off on PC.
Yeah, unless you're getting a game for multi-player there's no point in getting a game at launch. Wait at least a couple months for the patches to come out and so you don't have to pay to he a beta tester.
I learned all too well to wait for a game to get all of the patches done before buying.
Yeah I haven’t preordered in years. People need to stop shelling out their money before we even know if it runs properly. That’s the only way to stop this bs
Thank you Luke for this well thought out review.
you could make a PC based off the steam hardware survey for what is the most average PC for testing purposes.
3070 is still pretty high end.
Damn man you just became my favorite youtuber I saw you're last of us review after I bought the game on my 3070and it's so bad on day one till now this video made you my favorite
On the main menu, what does the item below "Start new Journey", titled "Jedi: Fallen Order Story" do? Does it load your last game's save and changes the game based off choices you made in the previous game? Just a recap of the story from that game?
Just a recap
There are no choices to make
It's a dream sequence style montage video of the major events/characters from the first game. Only like a minute or two long, if I recall correctly.
Thank you for this. I was on the fence about getting it for PC. I have a decent computer, but by the sounds of it... it would be better to wait.
You had me at vote with your wallets. Great video kind sir.
Models for cutscenes are higher poly and probably higher res textures, but my bets are on a higher poly LOD, specially if talking about Unreal.
EDit: Better than returning, don't pre order. They are not gonna run out of digital copies.
I was searching for Jedi Survivor review 1 hour ago, and this notification shows up
I'm running this game in 2k on high settings with Ray tracing turned off. I am ranging from 45-90 fps depending on where I am, but it doesn't look NEARLY as bad as it looked on your laptop. Did you try it with rtx off?
Oh damn... He brought up "The Callisto Protocol"... Was my most anticipated game from all of last year😢😢😢
Maybe it's my controller, but an issue I've ran into is that my controller will randomly stop working. Like after a cutscene Cal will not move or anything. I unplug and plug back in, and it works. But it happened several times throughout. (PS4 controller)
One term answers the review score question. "Access-Media"
It's funny cuz i've watched 3 videos in a row with u wearing the same shirt
I ran into the cutscene audio problems in the first game as well
5:56 Bad timing Luke 😂
Seems like ppl are seeing a 20-30 fps bump with today’s patch, as well as less sudden dropping to lower fps.
"My lord, is that legal?"
"I will make it legal."
I play on quality mode on PS5 and so far, I've been pretty lucky. I get the occasional frame dip running around the open world, but for only a split second at times. (nothing game breaking.) I did crash once, but I save regularly, so it doesn't bother me. Other than that, the game has been running great. I feel bad for people having issues.
Had during gameplay strange things happen. Suddenly when i killed an enemy, we were both transported in the air, and then drop slowly back to the ground
Yeahhh I’ll be waiting awhile to play after seeing this
Use Reshade with quint_Sharpen/DELC_Sharpen. No more TAA blur. Brings out the details in textures too.
You go to an electronics store to buy a new vacuum cleaner. You buy it expecting it to work as intended. You get home, plug it into a wall outlet, hit the power button only to realize it "somewhat" works. You can use it to vacuum your house, but the sucking power is pretty weak. You might be able to use it as intended in say 6 months time after the producer releases a firmware update which you can install through a phone app. --- Gaming industry today
I remember when insurgency sandstorm was first out it did a similar thing, the framerate seemed to get lower the longer you played.
Props to you for at least trying to return it. It's the right thing to do if you really believe it's a crappy release.
Best and most trustworthy game reviewer out there. I've got it on the PS5 and im not super sensitive to the frame drops or other performance issues, but i do notice some of them. It seems to be running better now than how it was during your launch review but as a game its very fun. Sad the performance isn't as good as the gameplay/story.
Very true. Absolutely loved the ending.
@@Evanz111 fair enough, i wasnt interested in forspoken so i didnt watch that review, but most of the time i feel hes pretty fair and his views align similarly with mine. were all gonna disagree over some things occasionally but i know when i watch luke or at least i feel like when i watch one of his reviews i am getting his honest opinions and not some fake marketed agenda like on an ign for example.
I've played about 6 hours on Ps5 performance mode and it' been running at 45-50 fps for 95% of that
@@carltonhanks6679 ive been in quality mode but idk how to check frames, it feel like its running smoothly most the time except when some explosions happen i can see frame drops
The steam acheivents are actually broken (shocking I am sure). Mine on the top show .2 for everything but in the april 29th summery a little below that they all have much higher completion rates. The second planet boss has a 47.1% completion rate.
get used to it, they havent even fixed chieves for mass effect 2 and 3 remaster lmao.
The recent performance patch improves framerate quite a bit on PC, Still needs work but hardware unboxed's new before & after patch comparison shows some real gains and much less stuttering since the CPU utilization bug was fixed.
It's ashamed that these companies are actually getting away with releasing clearly very unpolished games, mainly because not enough people care to stop buying from them or refund the game.
I have the exact same settings as you and I have a 4090 as well. My fps has been anywhere from 60-120fps but consistently resting at about 90fps. Everything runs pretty smooth but about 8 hours in my game crashed and erased my save, I was able to recover it but I heard this has happened to others too. I don’t understand why you can’t manually save.
it's literally a soulslike
That save issue happened to me with the previous game. 70-75% into the game and it crashes. I go back into the game, corrupted save file.
I was so pissed I just watched a video of the rest of the cutscenes.
@@TheFourthHorde so whack, I’d do the same. Survivor keeps crashing for me anytime I’m on Jedha. I was hoping the update might address that.
20:45 I wondered about doing this, but how do I know if it's the game or the pc at fault?
movies you see in the theatres are always on 29 FPS. so watching cinematics on 29fps is not that big of a deal maybe. They probably want us to have that cinematic experience
I left a comment on last video about you not being critical enough and you prove me wrong immediately. I have always liked your content but know that there is one more of your subscriber who now really appreciates you taking viewer feedback and keep improving. I really did stumble on the best game reviewer by accident
My desktop didn't have any problems, but then again it was 6k just for the tower.
I'm playing on the series x, and I noticed that the cutscenes just seemed off. I hope the performance is patched up and smoothed out soon. I'd hate for this game to do bad because of it when it is a fun and beautiful game
This is the third time EA has messed up a respawn title launch
I'm running this game from launch day and never had huge FPS drops running on a 5900x with RTX3080.
Much appreciated using a system with more common specs, the recommended specs asks for an 8GB RTX 2070, I'd hate to see how that runs. I'll wait for the Denuvo free version, that usually adds a few extra frames.
It ran fantastic on my Xbox series x
I noticed on PS5 too that gameplay often times was 50-60 frames estimate, while it got real choppy during cutscenes. Surely that should be the other way round right?
Reviewers should hold back their scores saying "we'll give it a score once it's optimised". This could end the trend of releasing games in a state like this.
Thank you for running the game on an average gaming setup 🙏
My performance has been overall okay-ish. I did experience several fps drops and stutters but not enough to ruin my enjoyment. However, since Jeddah, I have had many random crashes. I found that disabling ray tracing helps. The fact that my 4080 and 13th gen Intel processor is struggling to maintain at least 60fps at 1080p is inexcusable.
It blows my fucking mind that a game released in 2023 has limited to no ray tracing options, FG and DLSS tech from day 1.
Cross platforms have something to do with all the wild failures also. The PS5 exclusives have been really good at launch, but it was set hardware.
Also wanna state for all those who gave up in the start, Performance improves Alot once you get to Koboh. I mean with a 7900xt/3900x/32gb/m.2 in the City I could only get 45-55ish fps no matter what settings 5k epic all the way to 720p low... But once I got to koboh Im getting 70-90fps at 4096x2160 Epic settings(besides effects on high) with FSR Quality mode
18.50 but here is a thing CDPR did give refunds on digital copies on ps and Xbox which many companies don't do.
Whenever I get to cobo, just look at the birds' flying game freezes. I have to force close the game.
Greatly appreciate you showing the quality on a lower tier computer. It means a lot more to me when you say it runs at 30fps on a gaming laptop than 60fps on top of the line
Thank you bro!
I got pretty lucky with my 6650xt at high settings with ultra textures with a good 40-50 frame at 1440p
Thanks for this video, I thought my graphics card was fried. I’m running a 1660ti lowest settings and it’s barely hitting 30fps
So, how long until it’s fixed you think? I’m only about 3 hours in on ps5…
cant wait to play it in 2 years for $19.99
I’ll wait for about two or three months to play this it should be a great game by then
Companies are now like the Pikeys in Snatch. You buy a new game, it breaks immediately, you complain and it's just "the deal was, you bought it how you saw it. Now look, I've helped you as much as I'm going to help you. See that X? I suggest you click it. You should fuck off now while you still got the legs to carry you."
When you walk between areas/through doors/up stairs the game is loading in new areas, and will stutter, and nothing fixes it.
In the end. It’s always the consumers that suffers
I guess I’m just old. As someone that grew up playing Adventure on the Atari 2600 even the stuff that supposedly looks bad looks pretty good to me.
On a 2080ti and i7-8700K and 64gb of ram. As soon as i opened the game it froze on a black screen and I heard the entire opening cutscene but wasnt able to see it. Needless to say im waiting for fixes to enjoy the game.
As you should. My impatient attitude got me to the end of the game and I gotta tell ya this game is amazing start to finish-other than the performance issues of course. You should really experience it once the game isn’t bugging out every few seconds.
Good video but those top and bottom blurred parts are really annoying to me somehow lol
17:28 this is SO important, and something that I think people don’t realize enough.
From an executive standpoint, their job is to cut costs and create record profits. When the hype/marketing of a game contributes more to success than the game itself, why does it NEED to come out polished? Even though it damages their reputation over time, EA and other AAA studios have a big enough share of the market to where it really doesn’t matter in the short-mid term
They could’ve released a much, much worse game for let’s say 50% of the budget of Jedi Survivor, but marketed it the same and have made nearly just as much money. They own the IPs, they don’t have any reason to give a crap.
Wholeheartedly agree with your take on the 3070. It is the exact same performance I had, although you can cope with the struggle and it gets to 50 fps around the second planet, the game looks disgusting with AMD FSR enabled.
Rather wait until they patch up things enough so I don't have to use it otherwise major L for this game
yeah 3070 should be able to run this on effectively ultra at 60 fps 1080p
@@thewanderinggrasshopper4792 1440p* That would also mean ~3080/6800xt can do 4k 60fps at ultra. Rt? Its fine if it needs upscaling, settings reduction, more grunt or a combination of these things. These should be the targets wtih new games reaching around that performance or better.
I was playing the previous star wars game and my 6800xt was reaching just shy of 144fps on native 1440p max settings. Looking at this games visuals there really is no excuse for a 4090 to be struggling with rt disabled.
@@darkwolf1739 sure
It is known now that you need to restart the game if you change any graphics settings or the game runs even worse. I wonder if that may be playing a role in how bad your game is running. I have seen other, more comprehensive pc performance reviews that suggests the game doesn't run well but not as bad as what is shown in the video. Also, knowing what CPU you are running on that laptop would be helpful since CPU plays a major role in performance.
"her teeth are made-up of 5 pixels in total" lol
The next area of Koboh is where it really becomes insufferable [edit: the place you showed with the laptop portion]
4090/5800x3d 1440p ultrawide.:
Average framerate : 54.1 FPS
Minimum framerate : 42.9 FPS
Maximum framerate : 59.9 FPS
1% low framerate : 32.7 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 13.5 FPS
I tried capping it here to 60 to try and make it feel smoother so max framerate would've been about 75ish but even when the counter shows 60 it doesn't feel like 60 and the above will be why
That’s pretty close to what I get at 4K with a 5950x and a 6900xt. Ironically it runs worse when I lower the res, I assume because most of the issue is cpu performance related. I will have to see how different it runs on my other pc that has a 3800x(the 8/16 version )and a 2070s.
@@darthmocap From my testing on my 13900k and 6900xt the game heavily scales with memory performance. The difference between JEDEC, XMP, and my manual OC was insane.
Honestly i have a 2060 ko and get the same frames as he did. Between 30-90ish frames in gameplay and somewhat the same for cut scenes
So even though the resolution itself is still the same the object clarity and resolution is higher

im one of the few people that only ran into minor issues on PC, i usually play at consistent 60FPS on mildy outdated hardware
Well apparently 3070m is not close to 3070, because I was playing on 3070 in 2K on ultra with rt on and had solid 60 almost everywhere, with small exceptions.

This dude lives in his own world.
Whats the average hardware though
I have a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti its about 35% of the GeForce 4090. Will it still be playable?
How am I able to see my frames like he does?
Its so true about the lack of consequence. If they released a new car that has serious issues and doesnt work, the consequences of that is people dying and then they need to recall the car. In the video game industry, when the game is released broken what's the consequence? People are mad and can be appeased. Its terrible.
Just finished the game and it sucks how badly it runs but the game itself is a 10/10. It was so good at all points and it does get better performance in the last part of the game but the beginning is abysmal.
This shit is 10/10 Masterpiece?
Are u kidding bro 😂.

@@ize8905 there is a HUGE gap between inherently bad and a 10/10.. a good to great or even fantastic story but it doesnt run well is not a 10/10... a 10/10 should be reserved for games that make you see games in a new light and makes the competiors follow their lead .. Super mario Bros 3 is a 10/10 Red dead redemption (the original) is a 10/10, Breath of the wild is a 10/10 (it struggles in some areas but only in places where you dont spend a lot of time, and the revolutionary gameplay made up for it) .. I don't even know why but mine keeps crashing during the same cutscene, gonna put it aside till they fix it :( (for reference, I have 4090 but an i7-9700 that I am too lazy to change)
maybe i need to go further in on the 2nd planet, but im on a 3070 desktop and im on high detail, 1080p, and its like locked at 60 fps, slight dips to 58 but like i went and fought a mini boss/ champion monster and and had the graph up and it was 60 the entire time. like running around the town, jumping sprinting and fighting things all 60 fps
Skipping between the 9 and 12 minute marks is like flipping through resolution on the youtube video.
This was a great review and i really liked that you tested on muliple hardware, please dont think anything else, but, saying that most people play on a 3070 is kind of a wild viewpoint to me. It sounds a bit like something someone disconnected from the world would say. Most of my friends haven't even got a 3000 series card, one of them still plays on a 980.
Anyway, great review but i can definitely see a disconnect from your economic situation and the one most people experience.
