  • More Jim Gordon Goodness. This is a great track off of Johnny's "Blue Suede Shoes" album from 1973. I think this song was written by Michael Omartian, and I love the way it drives. Jim really puts down a deep pocket here. Enjoy!

    Hey Bellbrass,
Could I get your opinion on JG's 13in hats. I've heard they're probably Ks, do you think they're on the heavier side? Like the DATD era sound like they might be heavier turkish K 13s.

The facts on Jim's cymbals remain speculative at best. His drums are much easier to figure out, at least with the Delaney & Bonnie tours and Derek & The Dominos. I've done all my research based on sound first, then model. I can't afford vintage K Istanbuls, so I have been experimenting with new cymbals...and I'm no Turkish K expert, either. For his hi-hats, I'd say they are either heavier Turkish Ks, or, more likely, 60's American A Zildjian 13". I think the Turkish K hi-hats sounded very different to what he had. I'm pretty sure that ride he used, "The" ride, was a 20" Turkish K, 1900-2100 grams, probably early 60s. I'm still trying to reproduce that one. His hi-hats were a fairly standard, rock-n-roll sound, to my ears.
