You’re right, Diana is quite an interesting singer. You really don’t hear someone like her every day. She’s absolutely captivating
I think I should point out that the way she sings is not a sound that she “manufactures” to make herself stand out on purpose; it’s not something that she discovered- it’s mostly due to her unique vocal anatomy which lends to such a deep and dark timbre. She has enough control over her own voice to disguise or change this naturally dark sound (if she feels the need to) but by itself it makes her highly recognizable and lends to the androgynous quality of her voice
You can hear her hitting those low, low notes in her normal speech, so you know it is due to anatomical features.
This is indeed French and it is by indila but you are looking at the wrong lyrics, the lyrics are completely different, just open the CC the video has subtitles.
She was 14/15 years old in the video you just watched.
The original song does not have the "Arabic" sounds/vocals in it, this is only in Diana's version.
The low voice is not a "style" or a sound she discovered and decided to stick with, it is her natural voice because she is a Contralto.
She can sing however she wants though because she has quite a huge range too.
Also as a side note i completely disagree with the "Male voice" comments because at no point she sounds like a male, her sound is that of a deep female voice.

Хорошо ли он управляет голосом, точны ли переходы, способен ли он гармонично соединять все эти контрасты, смену регистров и тесситур в единое целое. Ответ на эти вопросы - утвердительный, - и в этом у него, похоже, нет никаких сомнений. А вот что касается собственных предпочтений - тут уж сердцу не прикажешь. Именно сердцу - поскольку разумом он понимает, что этот голос практически безупречен по качеству, хорош по диапазону, гибок, силён, эмоционален, артистичен. Но он, вероятно, предпочитает высокие женские голоса. Мужские могут быть и низкими, и высокими - против лирического тенора и даже контратенора никто не возражает. Но ни один серьёзный специалист не скажет, что тенор в сверхвысокой тесситуре поёт "женским" голосом; а вот назвать низкий женский голос "мужским"- совсем другое дело...

Не-не, в случае Дианы как раз можно говорить о "пении мужским голосом", только не в этом случае. Тут у нас именно контральто.
Но вообще она может специально давать именно мужской тембр в малой октаве, если считает нужным.
Нормальный эстрадный тенор был в "Дельтаплане" в Музлофте, а баритон - в "Кэнт фолин ин лав" в конце. Там она начинает контральто, а в конце после сопрано возвращается в малую с чистым баритоном, чтобы у всех без шансов башка взорвалась.
А, кстати, советую найти "Вдоль по Питерской" в машине. Спела тенором и взвизгнула, очень смешно.

I am a bit surprised that a "vocal coach" does not recognize a female contralto voice. Why should she change? I'll take her way of expressing a song any day.
Also I'm not a native English speaker, but for me manipulating the voice sounds negative. You have to manipulate every eingke note, low, soeech live to super high, each has technical requirements, properly using vocal track from vocal cords thtough all the way into the mouth.
Even a flute has holes you need to cover to achieve pitches.
And since vocal coach who listened dozens of her songs stated it's impossible to change normal tone in every song while doing so many things. Most ofnus have similar voice when we do certain things, for her this is natural. I remember a video from You are super show, 14, and the voice techar asks Diana is she got flu. She just raised her shoulder, shrugged. Yes she is different. And yes she uses unorthodox techniques when song requires it, intentional voice breaks, unusual yodelling, among many others. When the character require it. This is why love her.
I wonder why noone ever say an opera singer or Whitney Houston manipulates her voice.
The last 5hing i must mention is stating she sound like a man. I have bad hearing. But never ever in my life heard anyone sounds like her. Despite the low notes there isnl delicate feminine softness in her singing, gliding through melodies like a feather. I wouldn't even call her low notes muscular at all. Heard metal screams from ladies that were masculine. And notrs from males that sounds feminine. But males can sing high, notes still being not feminine in my opinion.
I just love our black pearl, white crow, talented little gem, Diana Ankudinova.

There are male singers that sound feminine and there are female singers that sound like males but Diana never sounded like a male she has a very distinct female voice, a very low one yes but absolutely a female voice.

In her recent stuff she has been incorporating her natural voice as a contrast, a clear sound, it's a more "standard" female sound but I think it's a pretty voice. I notice that some fans prefer her manipulated sound, so I assume she will continue to use this technique as a signature, just like you said.
At the age of 14 she sang this song even better.

I have always wondered about her voice if it came about due to the abuse she suffered as a child. When we are sick or in pain we might make a moaning sound. Maybe to comfort herself she developed this deep tone to comfort herself. This has occurred to me as well. Also the fact that being drowned by her biological mother may have done something to her vocal cords, resulting in such a rich contralto. Occasionally when a breathing tube is removed when life support is no longer required, a person is very hoarse from vocal cord damage. It can be permanent. I don't deal with people after the tube is removed so am unsure what the physical changes may be.

For your own elucidation I will give you some other performances to check out to hear the increase in her range. I think she has dropped down almost a third of an octave. Her upper range increased over the 5 years. She has put in considerable work. California Dreaming for first range increase. Then in The Day You at the Moscow Grammy with Brandon Stone I think she hits with great clarity an A6. Not only hits it put goes down and back up a half step. I am not sure in that/ I do not have perfect pitch and have not been around any singing myself like in a choir for 62 years. You need to know the lyrics because she tells the watcher to look into her eyes. I actual use it in my practice while treating PTSD. I have turned 3 music therapists on to it and they now use it.
