    Wow, I hate how fans there boo Thiem at the end. I mean, they aren't real fans, just enjoy tennis as a Sport and the great match. I'm from Spain and enjoyed this match, even though Nadal lost.

    Come on guys, Rafa is playing great tennis these days. One of the best of last years. Dominic was simply better today. Faster shots, sharper angles, great anticipation. He beat Rafa in his game today. No excuses. I am huge Nadal's fan, but honestly the king today found his nemesis. There is a time to rest and get ready for the major part of the season - RG.

      Trů Tela I'm a huge Rafa fan as well. I guess people don't like greatness... smh... well, he still has Rome to play then RG. I kinda would like to see him sit Rome out but he's too much if a competitor to do that. Hope he will be fresh enough to when RG.

      Yes, Nadal at his best misses two smashes in one game and makes back to back double faults, sure. Nadal fan? Haha. I guess you are a Federer fanatic who didn't even watch the match.

      hopy51 Nadal didn't play bad in this match, what happened is that Thiem was too much for him + it's normal to see Nadal missing an overhead HAHAHAHA.
      FEDERER IS THE GOAT.
      END OF THE STORY.

      Samuel Papp don't expect to a perfect player. Sometime Nadal will have to miss shots, not all his groundstrokes will be in, if Nadal failed at the key moments was because of bad luck or Thiem made him fail putting consistant pressure over Nadal.

      Of course he did. Not his fault that Nadal played some of the worst tennis of his career today. If Thiem didn't play well he would have lost even to this Nadal. But I don't trust Thiem to win the title. I'm pretty sure he will play like 10% of this level against Anderson.

      Mayank Sharma he is. And even though he knew he was playing terribly, he fought until the end and did not smash his racquet, like many players would. He's a great role model in tennis

    • @samy29987
      @samy29987 6 лет назад +3

      Yeah amazing role model that has called MTO under heavy disadvantages in the past to gain advantages, taking thousands of extra time after each point and when an umpire calls him out on them (Bernardes), what does he do? He tells the ATP: ''I don't want him to be the umpire''. He is a great guy, but this ''perfect'' aura is not remotely close. Him not smashing racquets doesn't mean he doesn't have shady behavior sometimes.

    • @jton6852
      @jton6852 6 лет назад +3

      Nobody is perfect, that is true. No need to put any of these guys up on a pedestal.
      I am curious how many think Nadal is a bad sport and how many accept the guy suffers from pretty severe OCD. As somebody who has it myself, I can tell you it can be pretty crippling at times. Pace of play has always been pretty elastic in tennis, and in other sports too, depending on the competitors. But if they want to introduce a shot clock, like they're doing at the U.S. Open, they could do that too.

    • @chrisak49

  • @stuewz
    @stuewz 6 лет назад +13

    After his victory against Schwartzman, I predicted a tight game against Thiem. Thiem deserved to win, he played really good and Rafa didn't deserve the win. Too much enforced errors, less power in his forehand. I think he is tired since yesterday. He won 50 streaks wins, it's a lot of tennis.
    Federer is back #1 next monday, but if Rafa wins Rome next week he will be back numero uno.
    Vamos Rafa!

    • @TTFAFF
      @TTFAFF 6 лет назад +4

      He's won 50 straight sets on Clay. That's completely different from winning 50 straight matches. The sets streak comes back from the clay season last year, so it doesn't really affect his physical conditions. But still, he has won Monte-Carlo, Barcelona and reached the Quarter Finals at Madrid so there might be a little chance that he is actually tired.

    • @stuewz
      @stuewz 6 лет назад +1

      Adson Henrique '' The sets streak comes back from the clay season last year''
      The only sets streak who comeback from last year are from Roland-Garros, that's it...
      He has won 30 streak sets this season, of course that matter when clay is the toughest surface for the body.

  • @heiskari
    @heiskari 6 лет назад +3

    Nadal doesn't like playing in Madrid for two reasons. 1. The clay doesn't sit well in Madrid like in the rest of tournaments. 2. The ball behaves differently and it flies much more than normal. Both things because of the altitude. I am from Madrid and this is facts.
    Nadal never wanted Madrid to became a clay tournament, years ago he even said that it was not a good preparation for RG because of this issues. He tries not to say this too much publicly because he is obviously involved with Spanish tennis, Santana, all the sponsors and he has a lot of pressure to play there and make the tournament look good. The only time he went really mad was when they put the blue clay and many other players complained the court had no grip at all.
    Despite all these factors, Thiem did a great job!

    • @gherbihicham8506
      @gherbihicham8506 6 лет назад

      Well with all that being said, he did win Madrid 5 times (4 times played on clay) and was runner up three more times, Nadal cares a lot about the masters tournament but I don't think he's going to lose any sleep over this, Rome and Monte Carlo are much better suited clay courts for Nadal's game and better preparations for Roland Garros.

    • @J.-M.
      @J.-M. 6 лет назад

      The "clay doesn't sit well in Madrid" view is a thing of the past. This is what Nadal said this year: "The tournament has evolved every year. In general, it's improved so much. As is the case with all new events, things needed improving after the first event. In Madrid, a lot of the time it was hard to get the clay to settle well and for it to play like your usual clay court. The first few years it was slippery, but the courts have been perfect for the past four or five years. Since 2013, when all the courts were refurbished, the tournament has been a huge event."

      You only play as good as your opponent let you. Thiem is really a talented and smart player, he can achieve a lot in tennis, imo. He's already won against the best, showing confidence, finesse, wisdom. I think it's just a matter of time when he wins a grand slam tournament. He's only 24. OK, Nadal at his age won all majors as the youngest player but Nadal's kind of phenomenon, he had his moment and took perfect advantage of it. I think Thiem'll surprise us soon. Same as Zverev.

    The funniest thing, and the truest indication of Nadal's dominance, is that if he loses at the French Open people will act like it's a huge deal, and if he wins people will act like it's no big deal. Do they ever do that for Federer at Wimbledon? No, it's always oh the great king has returned, bow down before him, we are not worthy, etc...
    The fact is, both men are remarkable. And every time they win at this stage of their careers it's incredible. The same people complaining that Nadal has no competition and clay is boring when he wins are the ones laughing and rejoicing when someone plays a great match and beats him.
    Thiem and Zverev are real threats right now. Any three of them could win the French Open.

    • @diegosotomiranda4107

      J Ton before 2017 ppl were talking a lot of trash about federer career "hes done, retire soon blabla" and make a huge deal after his loss with stakhovsky and raonic in wimby, same with rafa, a loss is a loss, but with these guys better be prepared for them strike back like last year

    • @jton6852
      @jton6852 6 лет назад

      Nobody should have told him to retire, that was arrogant and dumb. But if had been almost five years since he had won a slam before 2017. So it wasn't crazy to think that, 35 at the time, his slam winning career was over. He definitely proved critics wrong, though. For me, I think both of them have earned the right to play what they want, when they want, for as long as they want. But yes, the youth generation could indeed step up. I think it is only a matter of time before Zverev is number one. I don't expect him to be Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic, but he definitely is on the track for being number one in a year or two.

    • @Renavatio2586
      @Renavatio2586 6 лет назад +1

      J Ton I'd be much much more confident with Sascha and Thiem if they had wins like this much more often. Too many times I see them best themselves in a match. Stuff like this is a start but I want to see them hold it together and follow up big wins.

    • @jton6852
      @jton6852 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah I think Zverev is the only young gun to be confident in-- in the sense that I think him being at the top of the rankings and winning at least a slam is pretty much inevitable. The jury is still out on everybody else, in my opinion. Thiem has it in him to win the French Open, though.

    • @mizofan
      @mizofan 6 лет назад

      Nadal's career has depended too much on clay- time after time he has taken "injury" months off to prepare for his clay season but he has only won 3 tournaments indoors and since 2011 has not got past the 4th round of Wimbledon and only once managed 4 consecutive grass wins. Since 1972 5 players have spent a lot more time at world #1. With the difficulty of breaking serve on grass it's harder to keep winning on the surface- there are more likely to be tie breaks and risks even if one player is superior. Zverev and Thiem are threats but they haven't shown they can produce their top form in slams.

      Nadal still the favourite, that setting suits him better than Madrid, and Thiem and Zverev have underperformed in slams.

    Nadal was tired like a bitch. I woudn't read too much into this defeat. If anything Nadal need to rest and come back to the fight in RG. Thiem proved he can beat the beast and that's good but one thing is to beat in in Madrid and another one is to beat him in Paris, in five sets.

      Nadal lost to Thiem last year before destroying everyone, including Thiem with ease at RG, he also destroyed him just a few weeks back in MC, don't get ahead of yourself, Nadal rarely goes undefeated and entire clay season but wins RG anyway, if Nadal turns up, Thiem loses simple as that.
