Thank you!! I love that you are letting others know about the battery backups. I have been using UPS for a while now. However, since we had that horrible freeze here in Texas I have added more. They are a live saver.
Uk Starlink user here... thanks for this. Our house is on general power backup from Tesla Powerwalls and gateway 2. But brownouts do affect us before the Gateway disconnects from the Grid sometimes. Our 1 Gbps fibre Mesh 6E Routers are on a surge protected APC UPS device... but not Starlink. I've just ordered another APC UPS for the Starlink modem and the Mesh 6 router connected to it. Cheers 🍻
This evaluation should be helpful to many folks. You are criticizing Starlink for the difference between routers which may or may not be justified. However, remember that engineers and programmers must submit their projects to a design review by marketing, production, and peers before they are released to the public. I'm sure they considered the nuances and like you say "why" should be considered and simply explaining the differences is better than criticizing. It is always easy to criticize :-)
If I remember correctly the word was that they intentionally left buttons and such off of the version 2 to help speed up getting dishes manufactured because of material shortages at the time. Things like the reset button, and the Ethernet port were left off.
Just a throwback to your video of the Starlink data caps. Having checked the info on my account ( I’m in Ireland) it states the “priority” accounts in the US and Canada plus Maritime will be affected in December. There is no mention of Ireland/UK or eu , can you confirm this?, enjoying the videos over here, cheers.
I will be picking one up. The other day l was having problems with my Starlink I sent out Tag twice with the problem. About an hour later Starlink called me can they resolve my problem. I couldn’t believe they actually called wow
🌈🦄 Saved the battery backup link from a previous video. I’m assuming the split ( 2.5 & 5 ) works only for Wi-Fi. I’m connected with Ethernet cable. Do you know if that’s a slower speed or what not than the Wi-Fi ones?
The sad thing about STARLINK useing the STUPID power down 3 times in quick succession to reset the unit back to the factory setting rather that using a hardware button is that some software engineer had to come up with that STUPID idea, and worse than that some other software engineer over the first one had to APPROVE IT. Like you I have my Starlink system and all of my computers and routers on their own USP's and I have 16KW WHOLE HOUSE GENARATOR that starts it's self and switches over in about 1.5 minutes so the UPS's only have to keep everything running for that 1.5 minutes so so far durring power outages I have not had a loss of internet or a reboot of the Starlink, routers or computers.
@@jcristina Joseph, we love having the whole house generator, I grew up in Manatee County Florida and we lost power due to a couple of the Huracaines that we had in 2005. We had a 6KW roll around genarator that we used for critical loads but my wife could not set it up or start it so we decided that we needed a whole house version. We bought it at The Home Depot and my wife and I instaled it and that was the end of our power outages due to grid outages. We have since moved to Tennessee and we instaled one here and we love it. It provides for all of our critical loads. We are fortunate that we could do the instaltions ourselves.
Do you have a ver 2.0 or a 1.5, the rectangular one with the dopey requirement to restart it 3 times to do a factory reset? I did not think that ver 2.0 was released yet. It was under beta testing in the Arctic, I thought. If you do then how did you get it?
The crazy part during that hurrican I didn't lose any atarli k signal as far as I notice because I had to work the day it hit us wich I live near Lakeland but I was watching my house on the camera that are outside my house and didn't notice any signal fail but for some reason n 2 days after for some reason my starlink went back tk factory reset wich was weird but I had to switch everything back to my other router
I noticed that with app version 2022.14.1 that to do a factory reset it has changed from unplugging 3 times to reset system to unplug at least 6 times to reset system.

I use this same UPS for my network equipment. Works great and the small size enables me to fit it into my shallow network cabinet.

Smart!!!
I had tornadoes and heavy rain in my area on Nov 4th and it stayed up for almost all of it. Impressed!
Nice

Way.
I went through the storm with no issues, I use a battery backup no issue, no problem. Simple simple

Stay safe our good friend
Thank you!!

Thanks! I love your videos! Can I use a UPC for Starlink and for my desktop computer at the same time?
Yes, but I personally separate them and use two..

100baseT and 1000baseT (gigabit) there is even fast but you need a card in the computer and router switch to support it.
@@jcristina I have a laptop. Is this still possible?
awesome video! ❤ Thank you!
Thank you for being here.
Starlink should have a way to backup your current configuration and when default is reloaded so you can restore it.
That would be a great idea. I store it in memory as an option once factory reset to use.
Agreed.
@@jcristina I would think being them they should have added this since gen1
They should just make reboot a button instead of three on offs
raise some good issues. I will be looking into a battery UPS for my star link and switches
i was in the storm in nz recently. my starlink light on. but i can only connect without internet.

Did you tag starlink and elon on twitter regarding this prob?
Ya.
Where do you find the speed test it doesn't show up on my starlink app or I can't find it??
Thanks for the info. How long does that battery power the starlink for if power stays off for a while?
I’ve had it running for over 30 mins but the power came back.
@@jcristina Thanks!

rectangular (2nd gen) gen1 was round.
I have one of each. The round one at my office in Medford. The rectangular one I have at home off grid, well, kinda off grid.

Really. I will have to check mine.
With this upc, what if the heater is on?
Fine. But will last a short period of time of course at 150watts or so.
I( would just get a dedicated UPS and and hook up to it and forget it.

I have mine on a battery backup that lasts 2 hours after the power outtage
Perfect.
