Eva was a true original and her voice and musical prowess will live on forever.
Taken by cancer much too soon.
    Thank you for sharing.

What I love about her version is that she pays attention to the feeling this song is wants to evoke. This is so much better than those singers who want to show off their range or power. Her singing this song allows you to imagine the meadow, whether the flowers are bloom or hush and white with snow. Thank you for reacting to this video.

Love this one too, have had it on my favorites playlist for a long time but it brings me to tears every time. Thanks so much for this reaction, I’m hoping you introduced it to people that have never heard it and if so, what a gift.💕

Most likely the best version I've heard, and I love the song and I've listened to many covers of it.

I’ve always loved Eva’s voice. Every song she sang had that special soothing feel. She left us way too soon. I don’t remember you doing one of her songs before but I’m getting old. My memory is not what it used to be. 😆

Oh my goodness, what an absolutely fabulous version of this song. Thanks again Montauk Ed for a wonderful request. As Don said it knocked the doors off - I won't be able to hear another version without comparing it to this one. Thanks DB for the excellent reaction, and Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!!!

Thank you DWilliams for your info about Sting’s reaction to Eva’s version. I think I read somewhere that Sting also said: It’s no longer my song. It’s hers. She made it hers.” Now that is one hell of a tribute from a song writer.

Thank you again Ed for this request. This is a very nice arrangement. Sorry to disappoint you Ed, but I don't know this artist very well so I don't have any info on this 🙂 Happy St Patrick's Day

When Eva performed this song live, it wasnt uncommon for audience members to be openly weeping.

You never disappoint me Jeff. I first became aware of Eva and her music about 2 years ago. I think she has the most hauntingly beautiful voice I have ever heard. The sad part of her story is that she died from melanoma cancer at the very young age of thirty-three in 1996. After her death, she became quite popular in England and several other European countries. After that, some of that popularity came back to the shores of America. All I can say is that more than a few of her songs bring me to tears. 😢 Be well my friend.

@montauked17 Wow, I had no idea she passed away so young--ouch. But I am so glad you asked for this rendition. I just got off the phone with the woman I mentioned I'd been on the phone with earlier, and I told her about this song. It was yet again difficult to find the words, so kudos to you for being so in tune with the songs that are gonna get me. I've got several "adopted" kids that you hear me mention not he channel, I might have to reverse the protocols and adopt you as my uncle!!

Song is as old as the Irish Hills. Lyrics are from the mid-1800's. Some slick London lawyer laid claim on thousands of Irish and English ballads when the copyright laws were drastically changed in the very early 1900's. It is about young Irish men who were forced to sail away to far off lands because of the famines and other reasons. Most never returned.

When Sting heard Eva's version of Fields of Gold, he said, ''that's the way I imagined it when I wrote it.'' He then bought as many cd's of her songs as he could find, then sent them to his music business freinds. Sting played a key role in bringing Eva out of obscurity. Sadly, he had not heard her until after her death.

The name "Patrick" in English is "Padraig" in Irish--thus, St. Paddy.
