uPVC Door won't lock Can't lift handle enough!

In this video I will demonstrate how I fixed my upvc door won't lock problem. I was struggling to lift the handle enough in order to operate the key. Watch this video and potentially save $$$s. Easy DIY upvc door repair.

Don’t forget to clear out the hole in the sill the lock bolt shoots into. If it’s full of shite it’ll limit movement of the whole mechanism

Don't spray lube into the lock. Only use carbon powder. The Oil will jam the lock over time.

When I lift the handle of my door the sliding "bolts" at the edge of the door dont move, nor will the lock engage. Please assist me on where I should look for assistance. (I have looked but dont find the answer. Maybe old age is dulling my perception).

Hi Arthur thank you for watching! Sounds like the locking mechanism has broken altogether. Sometimes if you're lucky you can remove it from the door, take it apart, grease everything up and get a bit more life out of it but, what tends to happen when the grease dries out we continue to force the handle until something in the mechanism breaks altogether. You can buy universal (adjustable) mechanisms from Screwfix but they are expensive at around 60 to 70 pounds. If however you're not in a rush it may pay to remove the mechanism and take it to your local window and door suppliers and see if they can match it up from a door they have taken out (destined for landfill) they'll usually give it for free.

Hi watched your video, our patio door handle does lift when open. All parts latch and lock move freely when open , not loose or noisy. Any suggestions?

I’ve fixed it😀 I put an Alan key in the outside hinge half turns and it’s locked👍
