There are a ton of differences - Simultaneous bidding, scoring values are different, individual pirate powers, the dynamic between pirates, mermaids, and pirate king, and the kraken and white whale cards
i have played tons of both games. yes, they are similar. i tink skull king is more fun to play. there is a distinctive differantion. in skull king you get extra bonus for biiding 0, this is a big change that you will only understand while playing
Unless I've missed something in the points scoring, it always amazes me on why the points system uses multiples of 10 (10,20,30 etc). Why not make it 1,2,3 etc??? Does multiplying by 10 make the points scoring sound better? Or why not make it 100,200,300 etc. Huh?
We use the Risk scoring system for this and it works fine. 10 if you make your bid, and 1 for every trick regardless if you make the bid. Seems to work.
Close except I always played spades in teams. This is individual competition and has the pirates and skull king as extra trumps outside of the 4 suits. But still similar to spades in several ways
A trick is all the cards played in one turn around the table. If four people are playing then four cards will be played that turn and the highest card wins those cards. That group of four cards is known as the trick.
This version here is the newer Becks version. It has all the cards of the Schmidt Spiel version and even more. You can play with same rules as Schmidt version... or add any of the extra expansion cards/rules. And the art in this Becks version is better than the original Becks version I think. And you also get nice reference cards for each player and niçe bid cards ... that I don't think are in the Schmidt version.
A trick is a set of cards that you win in a play. For example, if you're dealt 4 cards in a round in this game, everyone will have 4 turns before running out of cards and that round ends. After everyone has a turn, someone is going to win the set of cards that were played. That won set is a trick.
@@xshadowscreamx I think in the old days (when the mechanism was invented) "laying a trick" referred to plotting something, especially in regards to sorcery and black magic. Sooo the idea is similar I guess, trying to make others take what they don't want, while you take what you need.
The intonation of the voice, and the repetitive loud music are both distracting for me. I wish I could hear it again without the music and just a normal voice. 😞
How is this different than Wizard? Other than it's pirates and there's a skull king like a grand wizard..?
yep

Soooo it’s a pirate themed spades

🥴 Well, I'm glad the game includes player aids. So many conditional cards!
This seemed awesome...then I played Spades. Just stick with cards, folks, and get Cover Your Assets instead. 🌠
It's very similar, but this game has some great artwork to it, and some of the variation cards like the Kraken make it interesting.

Says 2-6 not 3-6, am I missing something?
If you like Skull King you will definitely like Crown Battles more!
it is 3-6
We play this game with poker cards and we call it: Hokm
Aria Salahi You mean Hokum? But yeah, this doesn’t look like it needs a special deck.

You missed step 1) bin this awful edition and buy the German (Schmidt Spiele) copy instead
I have the edition shown in the video, and out of curiosity I looked up the version you suggested. Wow, the artwork looks so much nicer.

@@troyrobinson440 agreed, this newer edition is great
You know it's made by the same guy right?
@@snoopyfix2 I've never seen either version, but you do realize it plausible to have something that sucks and is great by the same person?
😂😂
What is a trick this makes no sense 😂

i'm disappointed i bought this it think i'm gonna take it back and get cover your assets
Cover your assets is so f overrated. So boring compared to skull king. At least in skull king you can win with a bad hand.
