@@Jimmy_Cavallo My stock 2010 forester is very capable. I get scared before the car gives up lol. I’ve taken down some serious stuff up here in Alaska.
My 2003 is mainly standard, non turbo with a new ecu, injectors etc running probably 170-180bhp (dyno from 2007 said over 200, I got it in 2014, 1 owner farmers wife) & iv lifted the rear end slightly for towing with peddlers heavy duty suspension kit. It corners so much better but will quite happily scale a sand dune from a standstill at the bottom, it's on pirelli carrier tyres designed for Van's and still does all off reading quite happily 😂
I drove a 2006 forester xt for 10 years. Best car I ever had (everything but the head gasgets, they blew on me 3 times in 10 years and this summer I decided it was enough). Pulled our 2t boat on trailer with ease. Pulled it up the steep boat ramps without any issue. Was fast on the german highways without speed limmit. Was always first to reach the other side of a crossing after the light was green. Now bought a 2017 subaru outback. Beautiful car but have the feeling this car is not even close as capable as the forester xt was. It should be even better with x-mode. but it does not feel that way. We will see..
I'm looking at buying a subaru and have obviously heard of the head gasket issue. How often do they blow? Is it wise to get the gasket replaced every 70-90k km as a preventative maintenance kinda thing or could they last 300k km or 20k km? 😊
justy and legacy will not have this problem. With the impreza I don't know what engine was in there. But as far as I understood the turbo engine in my xt was one type that had this issue much more often than it should. ....
@@dextersxxxxlab I've always avoided the Turbo models for two reasons Fuel consumption Reliability. Impreza was 2.0 normally aspirated. Legacy MK1 was either 1.8 or 2.0. @@SamO-ik2cmIt would help for sure but since it is a boxer they need to take out the engine so this will be pretty costly compared to one that can be reached from the top of the engine. And beside that it will cost you also a lot for other stiff like the air blower motor that will push air into the exhaust system when the engine is at a cold start. the bearings will go some day and replacement blow motor is expensive. Also the exhaust valves for this air pump to open and close will go after so many km and are expensive. I had all that stuff taken out and then a reprogrammed ecu to not have faults. worked fine but also costed me 600 dollars to convert. And not sure if it is always needed with a head gasket renewal but They also milled the face of the heads and if I was informed well that can be done only once or twice. so with my third head gasket I also needed new heads etc. etc. Long story short. Only headgaskets once with the engine taken out was like 3000 dollars and then the second time They told me I mayne was better to change the engine base block itself since this was my second time and the first owner also had it done. So maybe there was an issue with that. So I did. in total 10000 dollars incl new ( or overhauled) base block. new seals, new pump new....every more or less cheap thing that would be expensive to replace with the engine in the car. Then also had the blower motor removed als written above included with tue ecu reprogramming. And last summer with my 3rd time with a leaking gasket I was done. Garage told me that I needed to replace the heads and some stuff for the valves too because last overhaul they saw that was the last time they could use that stuff ( 6 years before) and that in total it again would cost me 10000 dollars. so I did not go for it a third time. Body started to get some rust and wimdows were pitted and scratched etx. so after all that money It would still be an old car. If I needed to also do bodywork etc. I would be almost as much as buying a car 12 years younger. But it still hurts me. I loved that car. It just gave trust. and other than the engine problems everything was superb. Engine always worked by the way. never did not. But the gaskets and the air pump stuff was a problem airpump just noisy so needed to go. But also the electric big roof window one day was cracked. replaced by insurance but the raw cost of that glass was 1500 dollar. excl. man hours. Also the turbo exhaust sysyem is very expensive. It goes a long way but when you need to replace it is expensive. I boughy a second hand system when it rusted through ( stil the original that lasted alsmost 15 years. But most expensive stuff engine/exhaust wise is forester xt stuff. the normal 2006 forester is a very good car with , as far as I know, not the head gasket problems. But also less fun😅
Idk what all has been done to the car, I've seen posts of people asking, but no reply. That said, I'm willing to bet it has a locker in the rear diff (along with the suspension work, tires and whatever else) because it sounds like it engages right as it starts going up the hill ( TORQ lockers make a "clunking" noise while engaging) A locked rear diff makes for HUGE improvement off-roading
We have a 2010 forester and it is way more capable at offroading then people think it is.

No way, I know that foresters are capable offroaders, I own one myself, but that insane to put it to a hold on that muddy slope.
Trick, i think, is clearance plus smooth ruts.

Rear torq locker does the trick💪🏻
A bit of a lift and proper tires and those things are pretty impressive.
Exactly that and a rear torq locker👌
