Hi. I've been enjoying your video recently. Great vids! Was wondering about your setup (reel and rod). I'm starting to get into your style of fishing plus eging. Any recommendations would be great also. Thanks in advance!
Glad u enjoy my videos, thanks. I used the my egi rod for ajing as well, which is Shimano sephia BB 83ml, reel was stradic 2500, with Daiwa 12braid 16lb strength I think, 13lb leader. Thats not what people usually use for ajing, people usually use 6-8lb leader I think, I suggest u try egi rod for ajing first, coz u can fish for squid in winter as well, if u wanna go a bit lighter, I recommend Shimano Dialuna S86L-S, better action, and it’s solid tip u can feel better
@@EZfishingNZ thanks for the reply! Is Dialuna eging rod as well? I was actually looking for rod and reel suitable for both eging and ajing. How do you find 2500 reel? I was initially looking at 3000 reel. Also, do you have experience with Vanford 3000 reel (replacement to Stradic)? What do you think of it? TIA!
Vanford is kind of the new Stradic, if u can’t find 2500 just get c3000, I got a 1000 for my Dialuna that’s because I mainly target trout and salmon with it.
Brought them back from China, it’s not AliExpress, and it’s got no brand, I don’t think they make them anymore, I asked before tried to get more. I only bought about 30 packs of them
@@EZfishingNZ ah. Nice! No wonder. I was thinking of my aji rod and how it would be bending in half on some of those catches. Hope to run into you at one of the spots so I can learn something 😁 Keep up the great videos. 👍
@@EZfishingNZ im always aiming for a snapper and trevally. Mostly i fish on kawakawa bay wharf and tried the soft bait for my short rod while waiting for the bite on my long fishing rod. I inspired again how you catch a fish using soft plastic.
Trevally actually like micro jig better, I found it easier to catch them with micro jig. The trick for snapper is to go slow, move ur softbait as slow as it can be, u can jig a few times but after that jigging action I usually stop moving for like 10 seconds or longer, they love to pick up softbait from the bottom. Also the jig head u should go as light as possible, just enough to feel it reaches the bottom. Usually I use 1/8 oz jig head if no current just 1/16, stronger current 1/4, but I usually get significantly less bites on 1/4oz jig head, I’m talking about shore fishing, 1/4 is perfect for boat fishing.
Thanks man. Can't wait to hit the wharf this weekend and try the soft bait. Good luck to your upcoming vlogs. Have a blessed day to you and your family.
Hi man just saw this now and am also having the same struggles, what softbaits and micro jigs would you recommend for wharf fishing at this time and are there any locations you’d recommend around Auckland?
No, u just need to be there the perfect timing, different fish show up the same season, same depth(light positions on that wharf) and almost same conditions (tide, morning, afternoon, windy, rainy or sunny). I used to live near there and fished that spot more than 1000times for the last couple years and I recorded most of my fishing trips, also the exact time I got fish there, so now I kind of know when I got the best chance to catch something there. For example, few years ago, there’s one week I was getting kingy at same spot every day the same time (1.5 -2hours after low tide in the afternoon, and can’t be perfect sunny day) then next year u just go the same condition, that will increase ur chances.
@@EZfishingNZ I also have that feeling but I will always remember that spot from the day I got the softbait from you and went there and got legal size snappers for dinner
Yeah because it’s on the wharf with heaps structures, and I was targeting snapper and trevally, need a tight drag and stronger rod. I lost so many fish before, If I was on a boat or kayak that’s different story.
The trick is to wind and get ur rod tip close to the fish first, then u just lift and use that inertia, don’t stop, but I don’t recommend to do this if u don’t know the limit of the rod.
@@EZfishingNZ I spent countless hours fishing that whole area on the wharf and shore when I was young..Grew up near by.Rowed my dinghy out into the harbor to fish also.No fun pulling it on its trolley back home up Okahu street after a days fishing...
Hope you let the under size ones go back into the sea??
Inspiring video - haven't fished the wharf for years - obviously there are good fish around.
Wow so many hook ups. Great work. I go their with my kids but dont have much luck. Can you share what you are using?micro jig or soft baits?
It’s some small softbait, I put it in the video, bottom right corner
Nice effort, I love how your fishing buddy says diu nei every time you got fish on
Nice video !! What size hook do you use and do you have a jig head or sinker on the line??
Yes, I was using some 2g jig head, 6#hook, forgot to put them in the video
小弟很快會來奧克蘭讀書 期待過來玩這些魚種❤🎉

@@EZfishingNZ the soare xtuned is not bad too
Awesome vid! This looks like a good challenge
Nice work, thanks for sharing.
was this around march? I went a few days ago and there were nothing but kahawai and hammerheads
Yeah, like all other spots in city, more fish come in around or after Christmas.
Nice work. Shame all those little snapper are allowed to flap around on the hot, dry concrete, though.
Mean session bro, hope you don’t mind but just wondering where you got soft baits from?

What rod is that? Its not an ajing rod is it? Looks like its got good backbone for the trevs.
It’s a egi rod, shimano sephia

good catch mate! 🎣
Great vid. Well done
cool session bro. :) looks fun as.
You might need a drop net to bring the fish up
I got a big drop net, just too lazy to use it every time haha
Nice video man. Can you make a video tutorial on how to effectively use the soft bait. I tried many times but i always ended up with no bite.
What kind of fish u targeting on soft bait?

请教一下这个钓组怎么绑的,是铅头钩直接挂假饵吗?期待回复,谢谢
是的。连接器。直接挂铅头钩。直接挂软饵
@@EZfishingNZ 谢谢
ajing does not use braided line and not 13lb it’s usually 2.3lb polyester or highest 3lb esther line
do you ever need to apply scent to your soft baits and jig heads?

Nice Vid! Do you know if bayswater is open yet?
Sorry I dunno, haven’t been there for a year…
Still closed sadly, I visited about a month ago. I hope they open again soon

U could try the dock at high tide just next to the marina, could get some legal ones there sometime

good catch
I tried here but only small snapper's
It’s not the season yet, the good time for this spot is late summer, I wouldn’t go for any other season, not worth it

what is the max lure weight on the sephia rod? please
25g

Incoming tide, 2 hours from low tide
