    Excellent review! As you say ... these independent reviews are quite rare.

    Using it like this video with the massive standing logs is quite opposite to what the manual says. The rear air infusers wkntwork then and then it wont burn clean. It has a nominal output of 5.5kw.

    It's difficult to find independent reviews on this, so thanks for posting. Jotul have since redesigned it, but have missed some opportunities IMHO. It's still the most popular stove in Europe, and the earlier version was the only wood burner to ever receive the coveted "Red Dot" design award, although personally I have no idea why. This stove is a HEAD or HEART choice. There are far better designed stoves for the same money - your HEAD would tell you to buy the HETA 900 Scan Line, or a HWAM, but your HEART (and the missus) would tell you to buy the Jotul F373, which is, frankly, beautiful. It graces a high-end interior and is a talking point. The big glass, the raised position on it's plinth - the elegance...superb. BUT, even with the V2 Advance redesigned model, you have a small ashpan (contrast that with the HETA gorgeously convenient 5 litre deep pan), a fiddly, poor riddle system (again, contrast with the HETA), ash that drops out on door opening if you're not careful with log size (small) and positioning when loading. Also the "afterthought" pull-out/push-in control mechanism sticking out of the front of the stove (why-oh-why!!!). Contrast with the superb rotating dial adjust on the HETA -superb!!! Also, this stove won't stay in all night. Frequent loading needed. I think even the newer version doesn't permit external direct air supply - why not? Max output of 10Kw, whereas the HETA is 12-13Kw. The Jotul is below 80% efficiency, but the HETA is 83%. I could go on....
    So, am I buying a HETA or HWAM? No. I'm buying the F373. Why? Because of its drop-dead gorgeous looks. I can put up with its problems, because it's beautiful.

    I’ve had this stove for five years and use it daily six months a year in Ottawa Canada. My only complaint about this stove is that anything longer than 14-15 inches is a problem to fit in. I buy wood from my neighbour who cuts my wood smaller so it’ll fit. I can’t tell you how many times a blazing chunk has fallen out and nearly burned my house down. I really hate this stove.

    • @GarbageBarge
      @GarbageBarge  2 года назад

      I found that cuting my wood at 12" helps with controling ash from falling out.

  • @DanielZajic

    I really want this stove, but $4k is pretty insane, especially if it's a DIY install where the stove will be the major cost component. I might consider it at $2500, but that's probably not gonna happen. :-(

    HI Bill, we have this very stove, you speak of how long wood lasts, going by your video and the roaring fire inside, no wonder you wood doesn't last very long.
    If you haven't, you need to throttle it back a lot, that fire is way over fired, if you control the damper the heat would be more than double of the fire you have going now. I clean the ash out one a year because there is little to no ash if you use the stove as directed. I've been heating with wood for most of my life.

      In the video it was burning at the highest setting to show what the stove can do however I should have shown the medium and low setting also. 95 % of the time it runs on low.

    I'd miss the ability to put a coffee percolator or tea kettle on a flat plate top at a safe height. For a high end living area it looks great.

    Thanks for the info, Bill. We have similar setback restrictions, which trump the expense of the stove....It's that or nothing...the esthetic of a raised hearth, somewhat contemporary feel, is attractive somehow....fire.....

    Thanks for the video. Does the silver handle heat up? Does any ask come out when you open the door? What do you use to clean the side glass? Lastly, can you take a stationary picture of the unlit stove as far back as possible? Ours won't be on often so I am trying to gauge if it looks as good when "off."

    • @GarbageBarge
      @GarbageBarge  6 лет назад

      The silver handle stays cool all the time. If you load the stove really full you can have some ash come out when opening the door. The glass cleaner that we like is called {Meeco's Red Devil} from our local stove shop. If you send me an email at lee65497@gmail.com I will send you some pictures.

    The woodstove probably puts out enough btu's in the 4 hour window to heat your entire 1800 sq/ft home to 72°. Issue is moving the heat from the source to the need. . . The same issue all woodstoves have. Tried using the blower only on your furnace?

    • @GarbageBarge
      @GarbageBarge  4 года назад

      Hi Asley, The living room, kitchen, hallway and dining room will stay around 75/76 while the back bedrooms will be 69/70. I had no luck using the furnace blower for moving heat around the house, I think it would work if I had a larger woodstove putting out more BTU’s or if my stove was directly under the return vent for the furnace.

    • @andrewjackson9853
      @andrewjackson9853 4 года назад

      @@GarbageBarge I've put several returns above/behind woodstoves for customers. May be worth looking into... and remember a stove that's producing heat for 60 minutes per hour only needs to be half the size of your furnace to produce the same btu's per hour since furnaces are generally sized to only run 50% of the time under normal conditions.....

    • @GarbageBarge

      Thank you for the info - I will be building a new home next year a will look at putting a return above the placement of the stove.

    Hi.... Love the stove!
    How do you think it would perform in a 300 sq. foot tiny house? How controllable is the fire...... can you run it successfully at a 'lower' setting? Do you get more burn time with pressed logs? Can you cook on it?
    Thanks!

    Hello! I find very interesting the piece of rock on the floor. I would like to install one wood stove in my living room too and I have hardwood on the floor. Do you think it would be possible to install quartz? Thank you!!

    • @GarbageBarge
      @GarbageBarge  4 года назад

      Quartz would be great! Place a layer of cork between the hardwood floor and the quartz for moisture protection.

    • @GarbageBarge
      @GarbageBarge  4 года назад

      Check with your stove shop on what type of protection is needed for your stove. My stove only needed ember protection however most stoves need ember and thermal protection. If your stove needs thermal protection a quartz slab will not work.
