I'd love to know what he's thinking while playing.... His technique seems very legato based even though he's obviously picking too, just the picking is so light that he has to be creating a lot of the sound with his left hand, Id love to hear him not plugged in, I'm curious, complete master.

If you want a tip on how to sound like Eric Johnson try playing triad chord shapes and playing leads that utilize string skipping rather than scaling up the fretboard.
This is what I recommend. Just get your hands moving. Just get used to that. Find out some decent slightly proper ways to finger and hold the pick. Also look closely at others in how they go about it. Then adapt it to the way that works best for you. Learn songs. And basically just find your feeling. Then start bringing theory in. A lot of people that start with theory have a hard time stepping away some times and just go for the feeling of things.

I don't understand how your fingers look like they're barely pressing the strings and yet you're getting a clear tone. It really makes me depressed. I've been playing for 14 years and I'm not even there 😭
Any Marshall-esque Preamp or Plugin will do. Drive hot into the input (via Tube Screamer or any Boost pedal). Slap some Reverb/Delay on it. Most important is good picking and muting technique.
Curious to know.. is that a practice routine you play often or are you purely just mucking around on the spot? Either way it was very clean and tidy. Nice!

Definitely a major scale. But it might be a mode. Slow it down and write down what he plays and then analyze it.
