Some rackmount ART.
Rocktron Chameleon!
anything by roland or boss.. I would also like to see you do a review of some of the tube preamps such as the digitech GSP, stuff, etc.. Anything old is cool! 😛
Yes...
GX700 Boss !! analog drive section inside !
This is still an awesome device these days. Some of the sounds are second to none. The encoders can easily be replaced by ALPS EC11B15242AE by someone who has knowledge of soldering.
This must have been a real stunner in the 90s, and it's still miles better than plug-in amp modelers IMO.
I remember drooling over this in the local music store as a kid. Nice to see and hear it again! :)
Hey Leon!, talking about relics, and given the news about Digitech slowly coming back from the dead on this NAMM 2023 show, I strongly suggest you showcase a GSP1101, their flagship product before the disaster.
When the first axe-fx ruled the pro level market, the 1101 was a serious competitor for the medium range. It was the evolution of the revered rack units from the 90's and 00's. A few pros used it (megadeth at some point) and some still do!. When it came out, the selling point was "a preamp that let your tone alone", so you could add your amp into the signal chain with a 4 cable method, and it wouldn't change its sound. It was a modeling preamp based on a lexicon platform that Harman acquired (Harman group owned Digitech and Lexicon back then, so there was a technology transfer between brands), and was designed for several situations, from just an FX unit on your current rig, to a full processing rig with modelling, effects, cab IRS direct to PA. It ran 2 DSP units inside, so you had a very fast patch change and effect spillover!.
The 1101 went into an updating cycle with additions that enhanced it tremendously. New models, new cabs, routing, effects, and the big change: custom IR uploading. That was big news since no other mid priced unit added the ability for custom IRs, and gave the unit a second life with new sound possibilities. With all of that it became, in my opinion, the "modest musician axefx". Another great feature was audio and midi over usb, so you can use it as an audio interface and midi controller at the same time with just 1 cable. Also it had a companion pedalboard just for the 1101, built like a tank (you could seriously use it as a heavy weapon) and needed only 1 cat-5 cable for signal and power. Ahead of its time I think.
The sad part of this story is that Digitech never supported publicly this updates, and everything was unofficial. Customer support, and the thriving community was lost when Digitech started making bad business decisions. Still a bunch of users, like me, remains. The last update was the c63 firmware, which really showed the potential of this machine that - surprisingly - only needed 1 rack space .
I hope all this information would be useful for you to track one down and showcase it. Who knows, maybe Digitech people could see a video from you and consider bringing the 1101 back to life again. Thanks for reading!.
Yes! I occasionally use my live direct to power amp and cab! 😊
Been looking for one at a reasonable price for a while now. It was the last of it's kind!
I still have mine in my studio rack!!
I was the lead singer in my band at the time, and I had the most wide ranging and high end set of tones in the band. No futzing around with a pedalboard and compromise settings One footswitch and I go from compressed dry funk to Slow Gear ambient tap delay happiness and everything in between.
Had one expression pedal always dedicated to an effects wet to dry ratio.. It would bring the direct sound to the fore when pushed fully toe down, and would fade the direct back and bring up the reverb mix the delay mix, and even turn on or off ducking in a way that made sense. I had studio tones on stage and complete control over it. If only I was a player more worthy of all that horsepower.. But I stayed in my rhythm and comping lane and made the other guys sound the best I could with it.
The setup was Roland GP-100 -> Mesa Boogie Fifty Fifty stereo Tube Rack Amp -- Left and Right Pacific Woodworks 1x12 Thiele Ported cabinets loaded with 1980's EVM-12L 200 watt speakers
Kitty kat ❤enhanced the tone...pretty cool unit. Pretty cool kat.
Loved this video man. Quality of the preamp tones from this mid'90s unit puts some things in perspective :)
Thanks man! Precisely, we really have it so good right now.
Loved the most recent playthrough by the way. That one hit hard.
@@LeonTodd 🙏
Great video ! Devin Townsend's early sound relied heavily on this unit. It was a state-of the art fx processor at that time, close to the Eventide H3000 and co., just for half the price. I still have it, and every time I want to sell it, I turn on, play a bit and change my mind :))) It has fantastic controlling capabilities via Expression pedal, it has 2 independent fx route- so you can change and morph a distorted sound to a clean, chorus-y sound- with the pedal, or with the Harmonizer fx you can play Steve Vai -Touching tongues easily ( á la Digitech Whammy ) .... it has intelligent Harmonizer - which changes intervals according to the scale you set; it has a looong 2 seconds of delay ( if I remember correctly ) , It has the classic "legendary clean Roland chorus sound" , stereo FX loop, and many, many more...
Hard to beat for the 200 bucks I picked it up for. Epic unit
Love reliving all of this “old” gear. Thanks Leon. Great stuff as always!
I bought this unit in the late 90s and used it for 20 years. Great for recording.
I have been gigging with one of these since they came out in the 90s. I have tried all the others and there is good and bad there, but this has always carried me through. I love it.
Great one LT. It's great seeing & hearing you test these old units from the past. With the ir and power sim it sounded pretty good. Thanks brother!
Thanks Steve!
great demo and playing! Love this channel!
Thankys so much mate :)
Very cool video. You nailed it with the Devin Townsend tone at the end.
Cheers! It was a great excuse to go listen to Terria
jesus!!!! Leon your making that roland rig sound sick!!!!!!! true awesomeness!!!!
Got one! Loving it. So much so that I went on to get the Gt Pro!
Oh man... this sent me down memory lane. I never had one back when they were new. So of course I was looking on Reverb before you video even ended... and saw these are pretty cheap used... and thus added yet another piece of vintage rack gear to my collection. Damn you! LOL!
This is the way!
I traded up from my DigiTech GSP21 Pro to the ROLAND GP-100 when it was released. I still have it, and in my opinion, the effects (not the amp modelling) still stand up against the latest gear. Dream rig I used back in the 90's, and even again from 2015, is a Marshall JMP-1 preamp, paired and MIDI'd with the GP-100, into any decent amp/poweramp and speaker cab. That is still a killer rig.
Ooooh yeah! Gigged a JMP1 for a few years and it was such a consistent performer
Yep, it's like having all the boss pedal and presets bonus.
I use a GX700 just for the FX in the loop of the JMP1 into a JCM900 power amp and a Champ :O yes a 5w Champ in stereo... a JC120 back in a louder era.
@@roscius6204 I tried a GX700 in that way for a while, I found it to be quite a bit noisier than the GP-100, so I revert back. Could have just been that particular unit. Never tried a different one.
@@stevegardiner8473 That's interesting, I don't have any noise issues but I would say the interaction between levels is crucial.
I run the JMP1 FX loop at +4 and the GX700 at -10.
I would like to try a GP100.
Mine was an ADA preamp into Quadraverb into a Mess Boogie 50/50 power amp into s vintage Marshall 412 with 65’s
*YO! Leon, you know, the DELAYS alone, are worth the cost of one of those racks used; they sound freaking Amazing!!*
Delays are so good on it hey
I'm glad you did this Leon .
I bought one new when they come out . Still have it .I changed the decoders on mine .
I love this unit still .Sits in my studio rack , under my ADA MP1 .
I loved the 5 part diatonic harmonizer . You can play Liberty by Steve Vai .Also you can make some awesome synth sounds .
So many options.
I didn't even touch on the harmonizer! This is a classic isn't it
Yes!!! Brought one a few years ago after seeing your earlier rack series!!!
do you by any chance have the software editor? the link for it is now dead :( I can provide a google drive link to upload it to if you do: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1e2-Ec8Yx8t4ag-Hg3WfyDR6LUMhXapH-?usp=drive_link
Damn it Leon you did it again! You've sold me, if I find one it'll find its way into the rack I'm sure. Thanks bud that was a trip.
get'em while they're cheap!
Great tones
I remember those when they came out. That’s when you could still buy 50s Les Pauls and Strats from the Gruhn catalog for under $3k for a player. Iconic tube amps were under $1000 unless it was an AC30.
Exploding price of physical examples have made modeling more of a must than an edge case.
Devin Townsend made this sound so good
I didn't know that ... Ocean Machine?
@larslevinberget9558 I think pretty much everything pre axefx, though he definitely used real amps for the dry tones. He got fractal to actually model his gp10 settings
I played that ting on numerous gigs. Dont miss it though with my AxeFx3 😂
Getting nostalgic vibes anyways - thanks for the great video!
Yeah this can be a struggle at times - we have it so good with the fractal!
Thank you for the video-makes me excited to dust off my GP-100 and revisit some of the effects!
Enjoy! Such a fun unit
Robert Fripp used a pair of them in his late '90s-early 2000s rack of doom for his Soundscapes releases and with King Crimson.
I can definitely see Fripp enjoying those delays!
Cool to see this thing in action! It also sounds surprisingly good. Those are nicer tones than I ever got out of a Boss GT-6 back in the day. With modern IRs it doesn't sound bad at all which is perhaps a testament to how important the cab sims are for these tones.
An interesting thing here is that the 3rd party editor is in a way superior to what we have in modern modelers because you always have access to the amp and cab settings so you can tweak those as you tweak your fx. It's also relatively easy to understand at a glance.
IR are important which I why I don't understand why Roland/Boss keeps dropping the ball when it comes to ir's and their floorboards. I think they have a standalone ir pedal, so there is hope.
Yeah whoever made the third party editor for a good job. It's easier to use than the modern BOSS editors 😂
Great video as usual Leon! Please do a video on the Boss GT-Pro!!! I insist: please :-)
I bought one of these when they first came out, and still have it! I also had the GP-8 and GP-16 before that. I'd argue that the GP-16 was the first attempt at digital modelling, and it sounded awful! I used mine as an effects processor for an MP-1. I rarely play electric guitar these days, so the GP-100 hasn't been turned on in at least a year, but you've inspired me to drag it out again!
Not sure but I think after living through the 80s as a teenager
Listening to tapes and records that sound sticks with you
And all the new modellers that I have bought over the years they just didn’t have that vibe
That something its in your head
So iam going back in time new doesn’t mean always the best
Thanks for the review I just ordered one I think it’s what I been looking for cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Love that Detune!
Great video and some killer sounds! I have the GX700 and it's a blast to play. Instant Bolt Thrower! Even the cab sim, if tweaked appropriately and with a little dry signal blended in, works quite well.
I had one of these, phenomenal unit, I'm thinking about getting a GX-100 just to get a modern equivalent.
@@Ghaos Yes, it is a fun unit for sure. Surprisingly capable for it's age.
I recently started with this whole rack thing, the GX-700 was my first purchase. I love the thing
@@funkmachine6420 Nice! The rack gear rabbit hole is a deep one for sure. I kind of had to stop looking stuff up because I keep finding more and more gear that I want.
Before I even saw the gear, I heard the intro Devin Townsend tone, and knew immediately it was the GP. 😅 Killer stuff as always!
Iconic!
pretty cool. i wish they'd make more affordable new rackmount stuff these days, i have to drill my pedals to boards to mount them vertically.
😳Say what you want but that thing is everything from the 50's the 60's the 70's and that all important guitar Olympics 80's from synth-pop to thrash and everything in between.
Plug in a Jackson Soloist and Beckon in the Private Dancers!😁
I remember lusting over one of these when they first came out.
Here is an idea for your Double Solo album Leon. Just name each track by the Amp you are playing on and hit us with the omage to the famous riffs each Amp is known for flowing from one to the other.😎 Great playing man!
God, I've listened to the first 30 seconds about 10 times. That's a really cool sound.
Hevy Devy vibes!
Sweet Jesus. Is there anything that you CAN'T make sound incredible?? Great demo, sir.
Thanks mate! Having a bunch of modern tools definitely helps
Kind of cool. I remember those. Reminds me of my long lost Boss SE-70 or even my brother's Boss GX700
Love the SE-70. That little thing might be my favourite half rack ever
Many players feel compelled to spend a small fortune on the latest-greatest gear while many of these older units like the GP-100 and others still sound incredible in 2023 and can be scored in the $100 price range !!!###
Great review Leon! Man, I was listening to some Sykes / Blue Murder live last night and my god his guitar tone is godly! Geesh he can make a guitar sing man! Didn't he use a Mark2 boogie or something?
Thanks brother for the review! Great stuff.. Not the worse thing I've heard for sure! Not the best either, but really pretty good for it's age if you ask me!
Be well and safe brother!
Sykes is on another level hey
Leon I love seeing you look at these old rack units and outdated modelers and trying to get good tones out of them and sometimes succeeding. I wish I still had my Digitech GNX3000. I would send it to you to suffer through. I swear that thing sounded worse than the old Pod 2.0. Those old GNX floorboards were laughably bad and I'd love to see you get one of those and attempt to get a good tone out of one
They had a lot of features for the time though. I remember the GNX4 had a talk box which I think no other modeler to this day still has.
Which one had the 8 track recording in it? i remember lusting after that one!
@@LeonTodd I think the GNX4 was the one that had the 8 track. The 3 may have had it too. I remember the 3 and the 4 were very similar. They got rid of the 8 track on the 3000 which I thought was a bummer. They got rid of tons of stuff on the 3000 and called it the "new and improved" model. As some one who owned it, I beg to differ.
The first impression was "how can this pretty not new gear sounds that way" cleans is very natural, the more gain stuff is not that brilliant but is very good for its time. The best "ancient" modeler )
I bought one of these off ebay after this review, I'm really happy with it. It gets a surprisingly good SRV tone. It's also has a send/return function so you can loop your own effects into the chain.
Very nice!
I got one of these recently. Would be interested to learn how toward the send/return for my external fx.
@@raphaliterecordsuk When you turn the knob to edit the effect, one of the settings is S/R. Push in on the knob and that turns it on, you'll see a dot appear by it. You can use the other knob to move it around in the chain to put it where you want. Then of course you have to have cords running from the send/return on the back
The manual is online if you didn't get one with the unit
cdn.roland.com/assets/media/pdf/GP-100_OM.pdf
You can definitely hear that high frequency fuzziness that was so common (and still is in some cases) in digital modellers and native amp sims, but the overall tone was already there! Sounds comparable to the original Line 6 POD. I can see why people still buy them only for the flexible routing capabilities and some of the effects.
Hello, can I share the editing software for gp-100? I also have the same device on hand now, and I hope to share the editing software. Thank you very much
Strangely this thing reminds me of my good ol' GSP1101 for some reason. Cool video once again!
Similar vibe hey! The GSP1101 really was the last unit of it's kind hey
@@LeonTodd Now that you say it like that! :D Still the 5150 sim in there is usable in modern day standards.
@@TheDannVal I think a lot of the amps in the c63 version of the GSP1101 are useful. Still use mine regularly. Has some great effects and amps, especially when you load in custom IR's (or just go straight into your own cab via fx return).
@@SymbolicSplenetic tbh most of those old processors are decent with a good IR. My GSP saved me on a gig when my amp decided to leave the building. Just switched to internal preamp and I was back in the game. Nobody even noticed.
Yeah, definitely...I think we've come a looong way in modeling. :) But some of those FX patches are really nice and inspiring sounding. Been meaning to say, there's a part of a riff (14:51) you've started playing a lot lately...always puts me in mind of Night Ranger "You Can Still (Rock In America)" which always makes me smile a bit (big Night Ranger/Brad Gillis fan) even if that wasn't the intention.
Random noodling in A:p definitely cops the 80s energy
Not bad at all for "ancient" technology. If I had had this at the time, I would have been ecstatic. Really nice effects.
That multi tap delay is AWESOME
Johnny DeMarco popping in cracked me up!
Get out of town! I had one of these! First time I'd ever heard a pitch shifted reverb. Recorded an album and everything with it.
That's awesome!
Superb video!! I just installed my good ol GP100 in my studio years thanks to this video, havent used it in 20 years :) Where can I get this editor though? Can't seem to find it. Thanks a lot
Looks like the original link is dead. I don't have the original files either unfortunately.
@@LeonTodd ahhh, thanks for getting back to me though. And keep up the great work with this channel :) cheers
OMG. I forgot how wonderful this unit was. Had one. Those cleans were so tasty. Just saw you did a look at the SPX90, that was another of my faves. Gotta see what you thought about it. Used it with a Seymour Duncan convertible for studio work. That was an amp ahead of it's time. Damn, I'm old!
Yeah the convertibles look super cool! I've got a LOT of old rack gear vids up on here if you're curious about old Roland/Lex/Eventide stuff
*Todd, I just found out yesterday that the Roland GP-100 Preamp and Stomp Box are actually ANALOG CIRCUTS and digitally controlled, just like the Boss od-200... the BOSS GX-700 is not like that, it is just pure software, not based with Premaps and Stomps on actual analog circuitry. this is exactly why, once you got past the TUBE POWER AMP & CAB issue, that rack spun out of control and sounds fantastic!*
GX-700 distortion & comps are analog, like this. The amp modeling and time based effects are digital. OD-200 is all digital.
@@LeonTodd WOW!!!! 🤯🤯 Leon you have me looking at my "used to have" Boss GT-6 and even older GT-3 completely different now! ... If at least by the 2008-2012, I had a Two Notes C.A.B. or maybe one of the racks, I could have just used a GT-6 and run it in the FX Loop bypassing the cabsim in the Boss unit....ETC All the things I did not understand years back well into the 90's, being a country bumpkin in "THE HOOD" from a BLACKHOLE called Arkansas! If I had a friend like you, my life as a musician would have went way-the-hell different - as apposed to all the waste of sperms I have been surrounded by that never want to see me bee anything, know anything or have anything. ....In the morning I am traveling to the POST OFFICE to pick up my ROLAND GP-100 fresh in from JAPAN and I have a 2-NOTES CAB - upgraded I picked up for $100..............I have learned a lot over the years but this video really threw me for a loop.... all the days of frustration, understand ALL THAT GEAR you have in your room behind you ((( BACK THEN ))) that stuff was DONALD TRUMP LOTTO and as you know the way they had this thing worked out, you needed a whole lot of parts to make a whole.
#salute to you Little Leon
*THAT SEEMS TO BE THE EXACT TECH THEY ARE USING IN THE BOSS **#KATANA** MK2 SERIES....!*
Kitty boops and modeller nostalgia, love it.
Very cool. I have an SX-700 on the way which I'm very excited for. The GX-700 is also pretty tasty.
Considered both of those recently too :D
Back in the day I had an ART SGX-2000 with the X-15 MIDI floor controller.
Good times; not so good sounds in retrospect, but they worked well for me back in the day.
I still have my GP100, I've not turned it on for over 20 years. Sounds better than i remembered it here
It goes alright hey! Loved it into some power amp/cab sims
do you by any chance have the software editor? the link for it is now dead :( I can provide a google drive link to upload it to if you do: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1e2-Ec8Yx8t4ag-Hg3WfyDR6LUMhXapH-?usp=drive_link
The cool cat of Shred nice bro.
Thanks brother!
Sounds cool af
Cool video. My first modeller was the Korg AX-1000. Compared to today's stuff it sounds horrible, but would be interesting to see you try to get usable tones out of it 😅 God bless and rock on 🎸👍😎
I've got an AX1500. Has some awesome sounds
M2..love the feedbacker!!
Turn off the speaker emulation and put it into an IR, it will sound better but whether that is good enough is according to your tastes.
I will preface my statement by saying I really did love this stuff back in the '90s... It was pioneering and cool stuff... That being said, Sir Leon, you could polish a turd with IRs and power amp simulations and make anything sound good haha. You good sir are a wizard of tone
Too kind mate! It's definitely got a vibe
Wow. I'm gonna get one of these... even though I already have two Boss GX700's! Maybe not the best for accurate sims, (just stick an IR loader pedal in the loop?) but very creative if you just go with the flow - you certainly looked to be enjoying yourself!
Hope you enjoy it!
Sounds great to me! I don’t know man. I love gear just as much as the next guy. But at the end of the day it’s the player that’s the most important ingredient. Always great to find out that someone’s rig consists of. But you can’t manufacture heart and soul. With that said lol….what a cool jump back in time. My first modeler was a desktop Johnson J Station. I remember the Johnson combo amp also. Heard one in a music store and blew me away. It had all those sounds that I just couldn’t replicate with the few pedals I managed to scrape together. Years later I got a Line6 combo amp which sounded great at home. When I took it to a jam situation it just got lost in the mix and was terrible. This unit here sounds like it would do just fine going through a PA system.
I really need to try the j station, I remember them well!
awesome bro i have one in storage im going to pull it out to use again thanks to you. Is it possible to share your presets?
Dat Johnny DeMarco cameo 😂😂😂
Bring Johnny back!
Deep Peace!
Yeah! Terria is such a fun album
@@LeonTodd So far, I've logged so many hours
With medications and the dog
My old Boss GT6 has some similar sounds that are on this unit. It doesn't sound terrible. I am going to have try my GT 6 with an IR loader now to see if it sounds as good as GP-100.
marshall sound almost like axe fx3 marshall models, fantastic
I had the VG8 and the VG88, and they are about the same brains, only this thing had a legit preamp. This was the predecessor to it. Interesting for the time, and somehow did better modeling than studd than came 20 years later.
Reminds me of Vai Fire Garden ... does the JC120 tones well
I don’t know guys, this sounds pretty good. I’d love to see a modern version of this, same 1u rack unit, but with the added option of building your own amp from t he e ground up. There are lots of good midi controllers on the market. Make it with a matching tube power amp. They would sell.
Basically a Fractal FM3 in a single space rack then
I’d love to see what you think of the Yamaha FX500! I’ve had a love/hate relationship with it since it came out in the late 80’s but now that I own one it really brings me some playing joy.
I did a video with the fx900 which is pretty similar -loved it!
@@LeonTodd I’ll look it up! Thanks!
Sounds very Devin Townsend.
There is presets ( 5 voce pitch shift reverse mode + delay) which similar to H3000 for playing "Alien Water Kiss" and imo it's close enough..
Time warp! Old gear through modern IR tech for the win. :)
Really wish Cliff would model my beloved Simul 2:90 as a standalone amp sim... I think I've heard some of the reasons why it hasn't happened, but still.
Same. I'd love to run my old preamps through that. I've got a block that might get you close that i can send ;)
@@LeonTodd ooh, yes please! 👏🏻
I wonder how this would sound through some current IRs?

Yeah midi to USB cable
Boss GX-700 into Marshall 9100 power amp with 412 cab. Why simulate tubes, just use the real thing. Crushing tones. I want to pick up this unit as well.
I can do guitar synth on my CODE 100H. Pretty cool sound.😊
*Leon, That windows editor, is that accessed through MIDI plug on your computer, into the GP-100?*
*#Leon**, dose the GP-100 you posses, have a lot of noise/hum/buzz, moreover within the input stage (front or back)?*
I guess you could run out of the output on the back into cab m and use the power amp sim inside it?
Definitely
How’s the pitch/de-tune? The little bit I heard was a bit buried in modulation.
The clean tones sound incredible.
Can you also skip the distortion/overdrive side of things and just add your own overdrive pedal in front of this?

Thank you.
Alright, you got a bunch of guitars, I gotta ask, do you sometimes play with rusty strings, and what do you do to counteract that? (other than change them?)
I use rubbing alcohol on my strings, as long as it's not a nitro guitar and I find it works really well for removing the rust, but no so much for keeping the strings smooth. Any recommendations out there?
I clean them off fairly regularly with that Ducks Deluxe axe wax stuff
Do you own this mate? Rad stuff!!😮
Yeah I bought it on ebay from Japan. Prices on them are still pretty good!
@@LeonTodd sounds pretty cool too!! Might aswell check one out.. 🖐️🤘
watch the prices go up now 🤣
Hi LT! Owesome! How did you manage to hook it up with your PC? Thanks
Midi to USB cable
@@LeonTodd Is there a special cable? I have a GP 16. Where did you find the windows software? Thanks!
@@alejandromacdonald6203 I have one of the k audio midi to USB cables. I don't know if there's a GP 16 editor
*Leon I would love to speak with you a bit about the definitive effects chain you are running on this demo functionality, if you please?*
Guitar - GP-1000 - Stereo Power Amp and Cab Sim - DAW. No other processing
Hello, can I share the editing software for gp-100? I also have the same device on hand now, and I hope to share the editing software. Thank you very much!

@@LeonTodd Thank you
And from where this processor stands....so shall the AXE FX III.....sooner than you think.
It's not too bad really.. I mean especially for it's age I'm really impressed. It's not the best thing I"ve heard lately, but by far not the worst either!
Heh i think i had one of these, after a GP8 and a GP16!
GP124 :p
*#Leon**, I have the software working, however it appears that there are some effects I can not access, ALSO; I am unable to SAVE the changes made with the software GUI, into the hardware. Were you able to get around this as or did you have the same issues as well. Additionally I am running windows 10, should I be running windows 7 or something for that gui?!*
I think the effects you can select depend on the structure of the preset - i.e you can't just run everything at once in a preset. If you hit save from the physical hardware it should work. The software was pretty buggy but still way better than editing on the unit!
