It should be noted that this is the SRT-6 version of the Crossfire. The original Motorweek review for the regular Crossfire was earlier than this episode.
it didn't sell too well which is absolutely beyond me, it's look is still unique and timelessly classy IMO, turns way more heads than a merc SLK. this is gonna be a very popular collective soon.
That 3.2 V6 was actually an AMG built powerplant. It was rated at 349 hp in the Benz. Another great feature of Crossfires, in general, is that they ride better than other short wheelbase coupes and roadsters.
@MMUXX Brill. As long as it's generally reliable it's cool. It is an original design, very distinctive in a world full of Corollas and Accords. What speed does the spoiler pop up at?
@AshtonPhoto paid £4500...its a lot of car for the money, running costs are high they eat tyres, but it's a fab car they have their little probs like warning lights coming on that don't effect the car..air sensors and BAS/ESP...
One of my friends has an 04 crossfire convertible and I was thinking of buying a crossfire if I can get enough money for a car collection someday, I’ve seen some reasonably priced and low mileages in my area but also I want to know how much the insurance is on one?
I love the Chrysler Crossfire. It's superb quality makes the car very reliable. I am certain that the Crossfire will be a classic in days ahead. Unfortunately Daimler Chrysler didn't last. If they would've produced more cars like the Chrysler Crossfire and Chrysler 300 I am sure that Daimler Chrysler would've last. But cars like the Dodge Caliber, Jeep Compass, Patriot, Dodge Nitro, Jeep Cherokee ... Daimler did a bad job on interior quality. The Motors for Chrysler were not efficient. I never understood why Mercedes didn't put their Motors into the Chrysler products. I mean they took the old SLK and old E-class for the Crossfire and 300 so why haven't they done the same with the other Chrysler products? I love the Chrysler concept and design language from the Daimler Chrysler times. They should've build these cars. Wish Chrysler had better quality, had better fuel efficiency and better more upscale interiors. I am sure that it was Daimlers fault.
@jason01020 I agree! I have been wanting this car since it came out. Long wait, but with a good summer job, may be able to afford one! Love the design of this thing!
lol 13.9.....i think they are talkin about the automatic transmission the manual can do better. but ya, great car. its too bad they dont make the SRT6 version anymore. actually i think the crossfire stopped production in 08, cuz theres no 09 model. or maybe they are taking a year to improve?
I'm turning 16 in a couple of months and I don't know what I want out of these cars: 03-06 350z, 03-06 rsx, 05-06 toyota tundra, chevrolet cobalt ss, 03-05 Audi tt, or 03-06 Chrysler crossfire.
This car didn't sell well, but could have sold like hotcakes if the price was lower. This car could have put Chrysler back on the map if it was priced and marketed more aggressivley. Even if Chryler lowered the price to just break even the first year it would have been worth if to get these cars out on the streets, and thats the best marketing you can get.
The horsepower boost is better than the original 215 horses available in the first version. Unfortunately, it's just more-or-less a rebodied Mercedes. What a shame that they didn't build more of the concept cars they teased us with over the years, like the Demon roadster.
Some notes: Motorweek's 'original' claim only applies to American TV, Top Gear started 4 yrs earlier. JC hated the Crossfire because producing an expensive car that has a cheap looking interior, unconvincing engine and questionable driving dynamics is completely unacceptable in the 21st century. Tiff tested it on Fifth Gear and never even mentioned the handling. He wasn't convinced either. Oh well. Both guys' test reports are riveting compared to the utterly inane MW story.
@MMUXX Yes, agreed. A 3-point star would have helped! But wait, blummin heck, you can get one for 5 grand? Hm, what's petrol now over there, one pound twenty a litre??? Eek. Go for the 6-speed...
This car has a hand made amg engine made by mercedes and is ostely mercedes made and you are trying to say a pontiac is better? are you crazy? The pontiac looks boring though it is powerful you cant compare them at all
@AshtonPhoto A car that can do 155 mph for under 5k why would anybody not like it..JC can drive anything he wants so he's gonna slate it..Tiff kinda liked it..if it had a merc badge i bet it woulda got a better report..mmm wonders
Be nice if they brought this back, the only gripe I have is the ugly rims, Mercedes has some nice choice of rims and being that this is basically an slk with a Chrysler badge they coulda chose a better rim style
@ralatorre9 honestly car testers like these never get the best 0-60 and quartermile times i think motor trend got like a 13.0 with the new 392 challenger but other ppl got it at 12.4 so yea
Though the Crossfire has a unique look,. the rear swoops downward prematurely displaying a rapid sense of incompletion. Secondly, the price of the SRT is absurd for a 5.5 second car. As far as being built in the Fatherland, when will American car enthusiasts realize that Benz products are designed to be overcomplicated and thus repair nightmares? The Germans seem predestined to overbuild auto systems in order to prove their engineering skills to those that falsely cling to the idea that driving a Benz is proof of financial success. Any jackass can create needless complication. The genius of simplicity escapes the obsessive and the insecure.

Only the SRT-6 has the auto. The base model has a stick. And to be fair, It'll still do 0-60 in five seconds with the auto, and it shifts pretty good. :D
***** It was a Karmann Edition coupe then (the only one that has the Karmann badge). Its basically an SRT6 with some Karmann coachbuilding thrown in :D (even though the cars are already produced in germany, by Karmann anyway)
Only the SRT6 had the auto. The N/A had a Manual and a Auto. The Srt6 Stock does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds so it's not slow by any means. A stock nismo 370Z does that. Not only that it blows the socks off most modern cars today even stock. It's a light car that has a good power to weight ratio and handles better than any Camaro or muscle car for that matter. The only reason this car isn't popular is because most people haven't heard of this car. It is a sleeper, always has been and always will be. Take this thing to the drag strip with a good driver a good set of tires and you'll be running 12's all day. Put a slight tune on it and you'll get into the 11's. Last time I checked that isn't slow. This thing hauls ass and looks good doing so. If that isn't enough to you can pick up a good one for 25K dollars which is a lot cheaper than getting a muscle car. It is a sports car. Big difference. Muscle cars are not supposed to handle well, they weigh a lot, and the only thing they really have going for them is power and looks. That's it. Try taking a stock challenger against a stock crossfire and see who wins. You'd be surprised. Anything other than a hellcat couldn't keep up with this thing round a track and a modded crossfire would give a $59k dollar hellcat a run for its money. Doesn't cost a lot to mod it and it is faster when you do. So the next time you try to make a car look bad go and get some facts.
It should be noted that this is the SRT-6 version of the Crossfire. The original Motorweek review for the regular Crossfire was earlier than this episode.
I love these cars. Quick and torque through the roof. Good job Chrysler. Srt 6 is amazing.
I think you mean good job mercedes
it didn't sell too well which is absolutely beyond me, it's look is still unique and timelessly classy IMO, turns way more heads than a merc SLK. this is gonna be a very popular collective soon.
My 05 SRT6 Roadster is by far the best car I have ever had. I will never sell it.
Not the best car I ever had but I do enjoy it.
That 3.2 V6 was actually an AMG built powerplant. It was rated at 349 hp in the Benz. Another great feature of Crossfires, in general, is that they ride better than other short wheelbase coupes and roadsters.
i have one i love it best car i ever had
That last sentence is something.
>>"the Daimler/Chrysler marriage is built to last!"
>>>divorced roughly three years later. Chrysler then went to Fiat and hasn't been the same since.
I have the roadster limited ed. (not srt) dressed in bad black. A great car, strong, gorgeous and fast.
This is my next car, it's nicest car I've seen in years and now's the time to buy one the prices are really low.
This was a great looking car, How did Chrysler screw it up??
@CHUUMPASS hahaha i true, i like the new slk design but the fact that they designed it to look better than their own car is a bit sad
@MMUXX
Brill. As long as it's generally reliable it's cool.
It is an original design, very distinctive in a world full of Corollas and Accords.
What speed does the spoiler pop up at?
63mph, and goes down at 39mph. So says the manual. I own one.

The SRT has a fixed spoiler, but the normal one has a Spoiler that pops up at 50MPH, but yeah, there is a button to pop it up for styling,
63mph, and goes down at 39mph. So says the manual. I own one.
they should make a four door. this is by far the best american car desing.
its a great car......
He was talking about the UK model. You know, where people can change their own gears.
:D
the 2003-2007 Chrysler Crossfire was assembled in
Osnabrück, Germany
I love the Chrysler Crossfire. It's superb quality makes the car very reliable. I am certain that the Crossfire will be a classic in days ahead.

I don't get why Top Gear was so mean to the car, its awesome!!
good to hear. i'm about to buy a white '06 :)
Its not bad of a car. Has anyone ever tried to change one of the headlight bulbs before? I have.
lol 13.9.....i think they are talkin about the automatic transmission the manual can do better. but ya, great car. its too bad they dont make the SRT6 version anymore. actually i think the crossfire stopped production in 08, cuz theres no 09 model. or maybe they are taking a year to improve?

@BlueFeatherWeb Bro, can you tell me please, what the differences are among base, limited and SRT6 ?
and which one is the fastest? SRT6 ?
thanks a lot
@thebenstrong yea but im not sure the cobalt ss would last long.
Kinda funny how they only cost like 12k now
I still Love my 2007 Crossfire Roadster!!!!!!!!!!!! So much fun! Wifes 2008 is okay.
@demoskunk see comments below, they pretty much sum it up.
i actually think it's a decent-looking eye-catching design, so i don't totally hate it.
Pop the hood and ENTERPRIZE!
@Formon yea my parents are thinking about get me like a 1998 gmc sonoma for two years then i get one of those cars.
Call it whatever you wish, I want one. In Auto please.
@MaxPayne19146 Haha, and I made the mistake of removing that spring loaded metal clip the first time. Talk about some bloody knuckles.

@AshtonPhoto it starts to rise at about 66mph.....
63mph, and goes down at 39mph. So says the manual. I own one.
Some notes:

Go for the 6-speed...
DaimlerChrysler a marriage to last... except Mercedes sold starved Chrysler to Cerberus a whopping 18 months after this video was made...
@AshtonPhoto Petrol hitting £132+ bare in mind prob £105 goes to the tax/gov
These are basically a steal now at $10,000 for a standard 6-speed 2005.
This car has a hand made amg engine made by mercedes and is ostely mercedes made and you are trying to say a pontiac is better? are you crazy? The pontiac looks boring though it is powerful you cant compare them at all
