About Marlene's line "when she wakes up, a scary man is gonna kill her" : What if she's talking about Cloud killing Aerith? First time Marlene sees Cloud she's afraid of him (a scary man) and maybe "when she wakes up" means when she stops praying seconds before "Sephirot" kills her in OG. Right before that moment in OG Cloud's "possesed" and almost tries to kill her. Probably in rebirth something huge and different will happen and we all are gonna lose our minds.
Yea that could fit. Or it could just be simultaneous. So, so a lot of people think she'll die but wake up in Zack's reality. Maybe the scary man killing her will happen at the Capitol at the exact moment she wakes up and fulfill Marlene's little prophecy.
However, Im still thinking Sephiroth needs her to die in Zack's reality to keep her from garnering the Lifestream. Its unclear if Sephiroth is aware though of this being a problem for his plan. It all depends how knowledgeable this Sephiroth is...whether or not it's a sequel and all that

Shortly after FF7 Remake was released, I was selected to fill out an official survey on our thoughts on the game. In one of my reply boxes, I mentioned the original Ghost Aerith Church glitch and typed it would be neat if they referenced that ... if and only if they still wanted her to die. It's an exciting time for sure.

27 years later and we still don't clearly understand Sephiroth's end goal! This is insane.
This whole time, I thought it was a simple "save the world from bad guy" type game.
But no, now it really seems that you have to save REALITY itself! According to these theories, Sephiroth wants to create/rewrite the laws of the universe and become the NEW GOD of existence?!...
...If this is really the case, then WHY??? Just for power and glory? Because he's burning with violent anger? Does he seek revenge against something/someone? Is it because he lives in an existence where he doesn't belong or his ideals don't belong? Does he think he's still a hero and wants to save everyone with a stagnant reality with no end/death? Or does he just want to be the ultimate ruler of every aspect of existence and make his own rules/rewrite the rules? WHO IS SEPHIROTH??? Have to play Ever Crisis now.
In one sense its pride. Basically sephiroth does not want to accept nature and become a part of the lifestream. But also, its pride that brings shinra to believe they can "science" their way to the utopia by usurping nature as well. Both want to be masters of nature or God of reality in a sense. Also, Sephiroth believes he can save the planet in a twisted way. Kind of like Thanos thinking he can save everyone by killing half of all life. There's more but thats a start.

Yea, when the game comes out it's gonna be great to sift through it. Im very much looking forward to it all. The theorizing and podcasts over the last 3.5 years has made the wait pretty fun. And yea, it'll start all over again in a couple months.

Something I had been considering was why Zach’s fighting the whispers was superimposed upon Cloud’s fighting Sephiroth. I have been considering the implications of Cloud’s recovery occurring months sooner in remake, the idea that Zach’s survival happens at the same time(present moment, month and day) as the singularity, just in a neighboring reality. But the addition of later realities being sandwiched in, at least as far forward as Advent Children and Red XIII’s children. I think we have only seen events within the Lifestream so far within Remake, something of a memory/time compression with multiple realities vying for rebirth

Also, why haven't people been paying enough attention to Sephiroth's planetary shenanigans? I'm so happy to find someone who develops this theory in such a meticulous way! The details in your video are insane. This is so interesting and reassuring to watch.

About a week ago, Prof Noctis had the Whisper theme lyrics translated. Going off of memory, I remember the (roughly) translated to "final truth, death is not law" and something like "carried away by wailing spirits". There's more, but it's all I remember, but I can't find the video.
Depending on how you look at it, it does sound like it could refer to some kind of stagnant reality or maybe the negative lifestream.

Another Good analysis and insight video, it truly shows some thematic concepts being overlooked from Original that is in the new trilogy, by the way if you notice the grey sky it looks very reminiscent of it from AC timeline for the hypothetical stagnant reality
Another interesting video. Definitely a couple of things that have been on my mind.
Zack as Sephiroth’s leverage has most definitely been on my mind. I always liked the idea of Zack’s survival as being a machination of Sephiroth - partly because I initially saw his survival as one of your other two options: an unintended consequence of Seph’s plan from either Aerith or the Planet/Whispers as a last ditch effort to subvert Sephiroth’s new plan. It’s hard for me to say which is more likely, but ever since considering the opposite - that it’s something Sephiroth willed into existence - I’ve like it as another move by Sephiroth that makes the story more tragic. I think a lot of players see Zack’s survival as a good thing, so I’m personally a bigger fan of it turning out to be a “bad” thing that’s part of Sephiroth’s plan.
And since your last video, I’ve been thinking of the “Sephiroth’s leverage” idea to finally get Cloud to lend him his strength. To bolster that argument, it would be a really effective use of his manipulation from the original. Convince Cloud he isn’t human and then offer the deal as a penance of sorts. Cloud costs both Aerith and Zack their lives and he ends up thinking he’s not even real. Enter Sephiroth: “Are you worth that? Do you really deserve to live? Join me and they can have their lives back.” That can be a very compelling reason for Cloud’s heel turn.
About Zack in the future, I’ve really been thinking about that. I mentioned in my last video that Zack’s world makes no chronological sense and have been wondering about him being transported into the future in some way since his reality seems to be taking place well past where it should.
Funny thing about Aerith’s ghost, I was so excited by a theory involving that but ultimately trashed it because it didn’t make sense. The gist was that Zack sees Aerith’s spirit just like in the scene you referenced AFTER seeing Aerith at Elmyra’s. In that situation, his “Aerith?” reaction would’ve been a shock to him because he would’ve just seen her in bed. But then I remembered that before he goes into the church, he’s practicing what to say to her as if he is expecting to see her. So that idea went to hell, but it was fun for a millisecond.
EDIT: Oh oh and I forgot. About the color theory. Those 4 colors you pointed out are also the 4 main colors in the new key art with Sephiroth and everyone. I know you showed part of that art when you were talking about the colors, but I didn’t remember you mentioning it. But it just strengthens your theory. Why are all those Lifestream colors in the art? Maybe to signify their importance to Sephiroth’s plan.

The symbolism of the final showdown with Sephiroth that culminates into a SUPERNOVA is definitely worth noting. What happens in a supernova? When stars explode tons of elements are projected in all directions. Not too dissimilar to how memories and reality are projected from the Remake supernova. Plus it's Sephiroth's signature move and it couldn't be literally adapted so this kind of works for me.
You bring up a good point i never thought of. Whats the timeline for Zack surviving his last stand, entering midgar and finding the events of remake have already happened?
Really, he should arrive (with cloud), around the same time that Tifa finds cloud before the 1st bombing mission.
I imagine its only a few days to a week max before the plate fall but still, its plausable that the defeat of the whisper harbinger in the singularity dragged zack (and cloud) forward a week.
Food for thought, regarding the planet pulling an entity from a past timeline into the future as you put it.
Exactly. It appears at first like we're gonna see how Cloud became a part of avalanche, but then we see Aerith is not in the church, and the Avalanche members are all dead or knocked out being detained by shinra, and elmyra says the world is ending, and there are attacks on midgar happening on the news, which could even be old footage! So its like....zack is not arriving in midgar before the first bombing mission at all. Originally people thought it was just a "what if" type of scenario but i don't see the dramatic push for the main story with that. It would be a lot more compelling to treat it like an alternate timeline, but then reveal he's actually in the future. And if you're wondering about the 2 stamps and marlene bunking this theory then wait for the next video, where ill address those.

Great video! If I am not mistaken, I do see a difference in the architecture of the cement/stones in the Church around the cross in both realities, and there appears to be symbols above the door with the stain glass window in Zack's reality. One cross appears brown and the other cross is grey in appearance. One reality has wooden floor boards and the other reality has stone blocks? Not sure if there in different realities/futures/dimensions/spiritual realm...there's a lot of mental gymnastics going on here.

I always thought that Zack died but exists inside the lifestream which is kinda like the afterlife and he meets aerith there after her death, just like in the end of advent children when they are re-united metaphorically.
it would be super cool to see zack and aerith work together to prepare what is neccesary to help direct the lifestream to deflect the meteor, supporting the party in the real world in parallel from within the lifestream. This way it fleshes out the lifestream aswell as Zack and Aerith after their demise and Aerith helping from beyond her death also isn't an "asspull" anymore cause it actually gets explained properly.
After your 2 Videos along with my own wishes, at this point I feel like unless they do something very similiar to what you described, I will be set up for disappointment haha.

Another great video - real quick, I was watching someone’s stream today and noticed something.
When the party is viewing the past using the pool thing at the Temple of the Ancients, you see the party as being translucent or whatever, right?
Sephiroth walks up right behind the party and is also translucent, and then when he turns solid and the translucent Sephiroth is gone, which… to me sort of implies that he was watching from the “future” or through the lifestream.. and then inserts himself into the past right there… or maybe not.
It just really gave me a chicken or the egg type of vibe, especially with some context from Remake, and your theory.
Thats a cool way of seeing that. I always thought that we were just witnessing him materialize there just like everything else we saw and that it was a part of what occurred already. But maybe not? We'll see if Rebirth has any recreations of scenes like that. Its kind of a weird scene so i won't be surprised if it gets totally reworked.

Nice theory. If you want something to think about then consider Jessie's dad. Guy is in a coma following an accident in Mako storage, later Biggs explains that Jessie believes that he's neither alive or able to return to the planet that he's caught kinda inbetween. Information from a section of Remake which didn't exist in the OG must be there for a reason. Just my 2 cents.
Yea absolutely. When i first played Remake i caught that line and figured it was foreshadowing for when Cloud is in a wheelchair in Mideel. It still could be. But now it sure seems like this will pertain to Zack's reality as well in some way.
@@off-meta-michael I can't find the interview but there was one where they said they wanted to explore the lifestream more and explain what it is. I'm sure Zack is going to be playable for this section as he is dead but also unable to return to the planet alongside other characters like Biggs who should also be very dead. Granted its a flimsy theory on my part but speculating is fun.
Hmmm would be very interesting to see this interpretation of events and motivations played out. It woild make for sn interesting callback/homsge to Ultimicia's time compression another antagonistic from a Business Unit 1 mainline FF. There's already vibes of FF10 cosmology and FF8 cosmology rethreaded into the final chapters of FF7 so an Ultimacia spell absorbtion into tye Remake Sephiroth character doesn't too far out for me.

One question though ~ If those kids are the same kids in the church and have aged up, then shouldn't Marlene have aged too? (We see Zack talking to Marlene in a trailer, and she looks the same age as she normally does).
Yea, that's a really good point. She looks exactly the same. The only thing i can think of is the two kids are meant to be the same age as they are in OG and im looking too much into their Remake design. Or Marlene was also transferred forward into the future with Biggs and everyone else. Then it gets a little choosey on whether everyone got sucked into it or only those who are somehow chosen or can affect fate. Im not really sure.
Still, the brown color scheme and people running for their lives in OG and Rebirth is really so similar i can't help but think its a weapon attack of some kind like in the OG.

Sephiroth using Zack (and eventually the supposed fate of Aerith perhaps) to push Cloud over the edge into "joining" him is a great way of showing us one of the ways Sephiroth is using to manipulate Cloud. Zack being sent into the future is an interesting concept but I'm confused about which future he could be in. "Timewise" it looks it's around the same timeperiod as where the party is right now. Only thing is there are some differences between the two "realities", it seems.. like Biggs being alive, Aerith in a coma of some kind and Cloud who's still recovering from Mako poisoning. What's your take on that?
The whole stagnant reality theory is a really cool concept that I personally like a lot. That's also (like you said) a great way of showing the players how Sephiroth wants to achieve his 'endgame'. Like they say "show, don't tell". So from a storytelling perspective it fits perfectly. There's two things I'd like to add. 1.The Stagnant Reality feels to me like a reality where time actually doesn't flow. Something like it froze time after the Whisper explosion. 2. It also feels very similar to the lifestream theory, because of the properties of the lifestream (containing all the memories of living things and that it's something that flows outside time).
Keep the theories coming! Although we have one month left till we (hopefully) get some answers 😎and probably will have a lot of new questions lol
19:00 Sephiroth does repeat that he wants to travel the cosmos with Jenova, which makes sense to make a new form planet.

I like your impromptu conversational style theory videos, they offer a fantastic way to analyze and put across some very good insights. We are definitely approaching the mysteries from a similar angle, i.e that of a "pending" future carried by Zack. The stagnant reality is a future hinging upon a comatosed Cloud. it cant be a pure remake just expanding content to show more. since things in FF7Remake happen completly different from the Main Game - Wedge gets killed by the wispers since he didnt fall to death from the piller like in OG this fate was corrected by the wispers and the trow him out of the window. Sephirot killed Barret and so on. maybe sephirot traveled back in time OR he just got information about the future from the lifestream and tries to change things for the better outcome in this timeline

If reality is stagnant it could be nourished with element of past and future right? Everything which build the theory is great but I am not sure that Zack being specifically really in the future adds something to all the strong concepts you already established. If it's stagnant it's maybe lost in time. Or maybe you mean, speaking of "Lost", that like in this show Zack world is the result of past action but the result manifest long after the events of what actually happens to the characters? Like the flash sideways of Lost?
In that sense I would be more convinced and that could be cool. Maybe thats what you meant and I did not follow properly. But great video like the last time honestly. Hust the point about the future I am not yet sold on^^.
Yea it doesn't mean for sure, but i think ill be able to discuss a little more in the next video to give more context for it. My initial presentation for this video was twice as long. I had to stop where i did because there was too much to talk about.
Now wouldn't that be a trip.... Cloud killing all of the main party, minus Vincent (except he's immortal so does he really count?), Yuffie (and Cid). Fans would be super happy (j/k). Btw great video!
One little correction, though.... Remake and Rebirth have confirmed that the Whispers are not destroyed. They are now under the control of Sephiroth. So playing off of what you described for Stagnant Reality where Life, Death, and Rebirth don't exist (correct me if I'm wrong), wouldn't it make more sense to say that anything Sephiroth 'defeats' now becomes a part of something he controls instead of being destroyed aka 'death'? Perhaps this is what you were inferring but it may have gone over my head.
It depends what whispers you're talking about. The arbiter seems defeated, the AC remnant seemed to fail in "protecting the future that gave shape to it," the many whispers trying to influence and course seem to be under sephiroth's control now.
If i said they were gone i meant one of those situations as described above. I know they are in Rebirth.

Hey brother. Something to point out when you showed the church. Have you noticed the blue glass above the doors? I noticed the glass design looks like the time guardian and if you count the ends of the hands on the glass they equal 12. The same hand numbers as the time guardian in the temple. I don’t notice any glass in the church in the OG FF7 at all.
Perhaps the church itself is connected to time travel or some type of portal that connects the worlds in some way? It seems as if the church is not just connected to the lifestream but also to the temple of the ancients/time guardian.
Regarding the color schemes, have you noticed that in the end of Remake, when Marlene sees a drop of water and says "Daddy?", and Barret promises he'll be back, the color scheme around our party is visibly more brownish? It contradicts your theory a bit, so what do you think? It has bugged me for a long time, and led me to believe that Midgars in party's timeline and Zack's timeline got swapped. That was before the new trailers, so im not sure now. I also thought that Yuffie would be in Zack's timeline, judging from the bright colors and good weather, but that has been disproven.

i got struck with copywrite and so i would have either needed to do the whole video over or just cut that one part.
basically all you missed was me talking a little more about Aerith's wild card option for why zack survived. it's totally speculative and all i pointed out was that it seems she sees him, mentions Freedom, which zack also mentions, and then she does something to the doorway sephiroth creates. i was wondering if anyone would have noticed. you are the first to catch it.
it was because of the background music that was playing while i was talking...so i have to watch out and make sure that music doesnt play in my videos again,

Sephiroth's plan was to create the alternate timeline where Zack doesn't die fighting Shinra. Sephiroth needs the alternate Cloud/coma Cloud.
When Zack dies in OG, the Jenova in Cloud clones Zach's memories and creates the Cloud from the OG game, the Cloud that gives Sephiroth the Black Materia. OG Cloud isn't complete until Tifa brings him into the Lifestream and retrieves his memories. When Cloud becomes whole again and retrieves his memories, he finds the strength (again) to defeat Sephiroth at the end of OG.
If Sephiroth interrupts this story, and allows Zack to live, Cloud would never go on this journey. I think you're 100% spot on with Sephiroth's plan and intentions. He used the party to destroy the Harbingers of Fate and this ALLOWS the alternate timeline to exist because Sephiroth CREATES it.
Remember that Zack was never strong enough to kill Sephiroth in Nibelheim, Cloud was. Sephiroth doesn't fear Zack. He fears Cloud. Coma/Alternate Cloud does NOT have the opportunity to clone Zack's memories and become OG Cloud because Zach is still alive. I think Sephiroth's plan involves corrupting this alternate Cloud and using the Jenova inside him to make Cloud a weapon of his control. Sephiroth hints to this in his speech at the Edge of Creation. He also knows that he will never be able to corrupt OG Cloud, so what does he do? He creates a new one who will "destroy everything Cloud cherishes"...as per the lines in Advent Children.
Sephiroth says "Soon I will create the future" and he does by creating this alternate timeline, or slide sideways because the party defeated the Harbingers of Fate. Sephiroth becomes the new Harbinger of Fate bc he absorbs their power. He has the power to control fate now and he is orchestrating events that will lead to his ultimate victory in this alternate timeline. Zack will have to either defeat the alternate Cloud who is corrupted by Sephiroth OR realize that he isn't supposed to be alive and find a way to sacrifice himself to the planet can be saved. The roots of the game are based on Zack's sacrifice and without that, the OG story doesn't exist.

Maybe the stagnant reality was already happening and was the reality the part was on? Bc Jessie's dad couldn't join the lifestream, but he couldn't also live in the world. Comatose makes them be neither alive or dead.
I mean, it kinda looks like breaking the cycle of life, death, dissolving into LS and being reborn as something new, separates "things". You can't be alive and dead at the same time in the cycle, but in the stagnant version of things, you are. You can't live or die.
That seems like a possibility but Marlene warns, "when she wakes up, a scary man is gonna kill her" so it seems like you can die here. I said in this video that perhaps dying here means absorption into Sephiroth (like he mentions in the OG) or annihilation. I think that would be a good way to deal with an Ancient who you don't want in the lifestream.

@judestongue one thing though that is interesting. If the kids in the church are from the future, and are the same as those on the bikes in the intro sequence, that migar is future midgar. That would explain the sephiroth music, black bird and ominous tone of this scene
I think in the end theyll have a choice to correct what Sephiroth is trying to change but in the end the price will be saying goodbye to Aerith and Zack so Cloud can take his place and be the Hero instead of being corrupted and/or facing the consquences of a stagnant lifestream that will doom the planet.

Why cant Sephiroth just kill Cloud or Aerith? Or both? He had the change? What difference does it make Cloud handing him the black materia? So much unanswered questions... I just keep thinking that, whatever reason Sephiroth has, he could have done it by eliminating his enemies. Nothing in the OG suggested that Cloud was a necessary pawn. I believe it is clichê in games but in most the villain always spares the good guys, leading them to later on me killed... its just part of a unrealistic scenario
There are several reasons.
1. sephiroth has sentimental value to Cloud since Cloud killed him and threw him in the lifestream. He targets him to get back at him but also because he kind of respects him.
2. In some compilation material it is explained that the way sephiroth returns and avoids being absorbed into the lifestream is the memetic legacy. Having Cloud, who has jenova cells, remember him and take up real estate in his mind allows sephiroth to start manifesting in small ways and then greater ways. In chapter 2 of remake sephiroth says, "good cloud very good, hold on to that hatred" which is the way in which sephiroth baits cloud into keeping him in his thoughts.
3. Cloud is the perfect synthesis of the SOLDIER program albeit by accident. He has mako poisoning and jenova cells which have formed a new persona for him which is strong and fully functional despite being mentally fragmented. I think this synthesis is partly what Sephiroth needs when asking Cloud to join him. Chadley mentions that Cloud has "infinite potential" after you complete the hard mode secret VR missions, and that it was his study of Cloud's potential that allowed him to rework his own programming in order to have free will. (Chadley is a cyborg. Spoiler. sorry if you didn't know that)
4. I agree that if this is a sequel and sephiroth knows all the events then he should probably just murder everyone immediately and come up with another plan to get the black materia. This is actually one reason i don't think it is a sequel. However, as i have shown above, it would seem Cloud has something special about him that Sephiroth is not capable of having which probably ties into the black materia and his plan of achieving godhood. It would seem that something is barring sephiroth from carrying out his plan entirely on his own without manipulating Cloud. For example, in the OG cloud explains that sephiroth will get one of his cloaked figures to get the black materia out of the temple if they dont get their hands on it first. You could interpret that this actually wouldn't be possible and that Cloud has been baited into believing he's gotta get the black materia first when really he's lead sephiroth right to it. I. The OG they have cait sith sacrifice himself only to have a second version of him appear right after which is kind of silly. Im hoping in Rebirth this is actually reworked entirely and that its moreso the case that only someone like Cloud who has fully synthesized mako and jenova has the strength to pull the black materia from the inside of the Temple.
@@off-meta-michael great explanation. I do share some of those thoughts also! What are your thoughts about Aerith and Sephiroth having knowledge of the other reality (OG)? Do you think both of them have the same awarness? For example, does Aerith knows she died in another reality or she just senses some events, memories, thoughts etc? If they both know what happend, then I assume Sephiroth is trying to do something different from OG, but nothing in my vision changes the fact that a Last Battle will happend, being Cloud and Zack in the same timeline, Aerith alive or not, he will be deafeted. Lets supposed he thinks that Cloud is a very strong party member and thats the reason why he loses. Just kill him right? If the problem is Meteor and the planet preventing it to be smashed, what could he do to overcome it?

Sounds like a lot more Kingdom Hearts style nonsense is being written in and I have a lot of concerns.
I'll still be playing Rebirth due to morbid curiosity with what they're going for, but I'm not confident they won't fall into the plot hole abyss that is "time travel/alterations" in writing a coherent story.
I dont think thats the case at all. The kingdom hearts label on Remake is quite annoying. I played KH and i have no idea what the story is for that series, what the character motivations are, or what kingdom hearts actually is.
FF7 remake is the same story of saving the planet from calamity and decay. We can easily identify what the character motivations are for the heroes and villains, and we have a very good understanding of what the lifestream is. The mind/reality bending elements give a sense of an unreliable narrator which was at the heart of the OG. This is not at all the convolution of KH. The endless theories are just hashing out the finer details of these major aspects. The aspects themselves are not confusing.
