The 20-year-old Israeli singer sits down for her first in-depth interview since performing amid death threats and jeers: “I turned it into my power.”
Amid the Israel-Hamas War, a campaign was mounted to boycott Eurovision for allowing Israel to participate. Over 1,000 Swedish musicians, including the pop star Robyn, signed a petition calling for Israel’s exclusion. In Finland, 1,300 artists signed a similar petition. Bars here in New York announced they wouldn’t screen the competition in protest. Israel was forced to revise their song after its original entry, “October Rain,” was deemed too political by the EBU. This was all before anyone took to the stage.
Despite calls for boycott, 163 million people tuned in to Eurovision this year to watch Golan and the other performers. She placed fifth, and snagged the number two spot when it came to the public vote.
I sat down with Golan in New York, in her first in-depth interview since the competition, to talk about how she handled the pressure of being the most-hated performer in Eurovision history before ever singing a note, how it feels to represent Israel since October 7, and what comes next.

Eden is such an inspiration. Her voice was second to none the bullies couldn’t get to her. There were singers that didn’t want Eden because they couldn’t beat her. Eg: the Irish entrant. She said if Eden wasn’t there, she’d have a better chance to win. Eden’s voice is up there with the Streisands and the Dions of the world. No way the Irish or Greek entrant could claim that. That’s why 5hey bullied Eden. It wasn’t political. It was voice jealousy in my opinion.

Unfortunately for her, Europe went with the more palatable and more talented Nemo. BT couldn’t exactly break ranks and meangirl on Nemo because he’s part of that team, so she let all her vitriol out on EBU and Israel. 😂 So predictable. Thank you so much for doing this interview with Eden. As a big Eurovision fan and a supporter of Israel in the contest, as much as I want the contest to remain apolitical, but I am so grateful that the Israeli delegation didn't withdraw (and EBU didn't succumb to the noises to ban Israel) because it is so important for Israel to show the world they exist.
And also, Israel could not have asked for a better representative because Eden is just so amazing and graceful despite all the hatred she got. Her tenacity is going to get her go far. I am so proud of her and I am sure Israelis and Jews around the world share the same sentiments.

Joost is a piece of work. My money is on him being outed as another Ellen DeGeneres, who has this wacky dancing happy-go-lucky "give love and joy to all" persona that, at best, is overcompensating for something. At best, he has acute anger management issues. At worst, he's something out of a horror flick.
That's my takeaway of everything I've seen about him.
Regardless, he didn't force Eden to do anything. He just made a noise during the press conference that did nothing but reflect negatively on him. Eden did her thing regardless.
Not Israeli, but thanks for your comment. When I see the rabid mobs shouting "justice for joost", it doesn't feel like a bunch of enthusiasts doing their thing. It feels like townsfolk hunting for a witch. (Nowadays, though, you can screech that you're a witch and get cheers, so...... whatever. Ireland's tears at Israel's success are a contender for my favorite moment of the whole debacle.) so every comment about Eden that just focuses on her and her performance and song is so refreshing to hear, especially from those who don't have a vested interest (other than possessing a human soul)

She's a legend. I've got PTSD just from watching her go through her Eurovision journey, so I don't know how she did/does it.

With a great inner feeling that we have got nothing to hide.. And no many how many haters we are gonna face, even a whole crowd full of haters, it won't change the truth. We will always have ourselves and the love of true friends out there (as few as they may be) to lean on until we will get through this❤

We love Eden and so glad that in our country - France - the public vote was the highest for her. We were watching her performance (and voting for her, of course) with tears in our eyes. She is a true talent and a shining star! Many blessings and all the success to her !

I was worried for Eden's safety during the contest. The Eurovision controvercy and pro Palestinian demonstrations made me start searching for information on the current conflict. And what can I say. Israel has as much right to exist as any other country and we must not allow violence against Jewish people in Europe. Obsession with Israel all over the world is so unhealthy.

Yes we were there for you Eden, first time I ever voted for anyone in Eurovision, like many others I voted for you 20 times and then in the final 20 times again, and not only for your beautiful performance and the music but also to help you and your country who were being bullied! Keep being who you are, you're amazing! 💙🤍

I have only kind words for Eden Golan, her courage at the Eurovision, as well as her beautiful performance was enough to get my vote, the bullies at Eurovision preaching about love and unionism are pure hypocrites.
