So glad you watched this! It's one thing to read, hear, or watch the story... it's another to hear it from the mouths of the people who lived it. Those men are all dead now; the last member of Easy died this year. Thank goodness their experiences were documented. Now their story lives on.
I found out about them a little too late :( but I’m happy to have gotten to know them and their story. Truly amazing
When you said "this isn't like a crying thing." I had to laugh out loud xD
Another great reaction! Wild Bill and Babe were such good friends that they were always in each other's lives after the war, they didn't live very far from each other - like just a few blocks. In South Philadelphia there is a park and memorial to Babe Heffron, I think the park may be Heffron Park. There is a bronze statue of Babe there as he was in WWII, inside that statue is a bronze heart containing part of his and his wife's ashes. When Wild Bill passed away, eventually a bronze statue of him joined that of Babe Heffron. Together in battle, together in life, together in whatever comes beyond, and memorialized together.
Brothers in all but blood...
"I don't think this is going to be a crying documentary"
I'll take 'amazingly inaccurate predictions' for $400, Alex
J/K love ya 😋
😂 😂 yeah I didn’t think that through, I just it was just a nice sit down interview but they did a great job editing them all together to really tell the story
@@NiaMakiReacts Yes, it's the cherry on the top to a great series. Thank you again for watching it :)
Haha that was my thought too. I was like "I give her 5 minutes." But there is absolutely nothing wrong being emotional watching this documentary.
There is an additional documentary regarding BOB. It's called Hang Tough and is narrated by Damien Lewis who portrayed Winters. It was made a year after Winters passed away in 2011. It outlines his life rather succinctly and coincides with the construction of a memorial in France where Winters is used to represent all the American divisions involved in the D-Day operations.
I really, really love your reactions to the series B of B. (That's why I subscribed to your channel.) I am so glad you reacted to this special video too! I like your demeanor during the movie/episodes and your limited comments during the movie/episode and then your more detailed comments later. I wish you much success with your channel. I look forward to your future videos!
Mia, I enjoyed this reaction and your BOB reactions so much. I hope you can also react to The Pacific. Thank you so much.
I LOVE how you have respect for what these men did!!! More people need to watch this!!
Just finished watching this with the wife a couple weeks ago. It was her first time watching it but I've seen it a few times since it's first release as a young teen. After 10 years of serving in the Army, my re-watch this time really hit me hard emotionally and cried during the watch. My wife was worried about me because I never cried watching a movie or TV show. Band of Brothers is really a powerful masterpiece.
The significance of wearing the eagle on the right shoulder is that only someone who served in combat with that division can do that. Everyone else wears it on the left shoulder.
Ohhh thank you, I didn’t know about the significance of the placement!
@@NiaMakiReacts it's called combat patches means you have been down range deployed to a combat zone.
@@808INFantry11X you might have to explain what "downrange" means is for all the civilians in the audience 😁
Thank you for watching this. A ton of reactors skip this after they finish BoB, but it's really a nice way to end it.
Great job as always.
There is no episode of BOB that does not produce tears. After watching this series at least once per year, it still gets me. Watching your reaction, Nia, has been great. One of the most cherished moments for me was Babe singing Bridget O'Flynn.
Wild Bill and Babe wrote a book together. "Brothers in Battle, Best of Friends: Two WWII Paratroopers from the Original Band of Brothers Tell Their Story" is a great read.
Thank you for reacting to this series.
They were all heroes in my book.
Yessss I loved the song he did in the end, such a great way to end it. I’ll have to get their audible too 💕
@@NiaMakiReacts Babe was said to be quite the dancer and he could cut a rug. They say he could really dance the jitterbug.
Did you figure any of the men out from the interviews at the beginning of each episode while you watched the series? I thought you had an idea who Winters was. Believe it or not, Damien Lewis who played Winters is a Brit. Couldn't tell it as he got the accent down perfectly.
Hey Nia! I did not expect you to be as moved as you were when you watched this. I'm a veteran myself, and the Band of Brothers series and this documentary, are two of my favorite films ever. I watch them all the time. Every time I hear these old guys talk about their service and their buddies its makes me cry, and breaks my heart.
There's still a few of them left, WWII veterans in general I mean, and everytime I go to the VA, and see one of the old-timers,or group of them together, my favorite thing to do is sit and talk with them, and listen to their stories. There's nothing like it. When they're all together drinking coffee and telling stories oh, I can see it, I can see the young men they used to be. It's like the old man is just a disguise.
Well, I cannot thank you enough for this! Thank you for taking it to heart like you did
And also, I was lucky enough to see major Winters speak at West Point, I live very close, and I even got a chance to speak with him for a bit and shake the man's hand.
My Dad, Bill Young, was in the 1st Infantry Division and served from Feb. ‘41 to Oct. ‘45. His attitude was just like these guys’. If someone said thank you for your service, he was never rude but it made him embarrassed because he knew so many good men who never made it back home. He fought in a combat rifle unit in 5 different campaigns, was wounded and carried shell fragments in his back and legs until he died at the age of 94. Never once complained, and if you ever called him a hero he’d deny it. It’s just the way his whole generation was.
Good on you for doing this, Nia. So many people skip it. I hope you move on soon to The Pacific, which covers my Marine Corps brothers in "the other big part of the war".
One more video you may enjoy is a “video diary” that was recorded by Ron Livingston (Nixon) about the 10 day boot camp the cast experienced. You see the actors learn, bond together and grow into their characters. Is just 50 minutes and on RUclips.
Love this part the best the show is amazing but I enjoy listening to all these heroes
Yeahhh it was nice to sit down and feel like your there just listening to their stories
@@NiaMakiReacts exactly unfortunately they are l passed away if love to meet everyone of them
Very inspiring and a great reaction, thank you
Amazing reaction 💜, I'm hoping you you react to "The Pacific" next.
Related to this subject... I can HIGHLY recommend you watch the film 'Best Years of Our Lives' ... a film about WW2 veterans returning home front after the war. One of the BEST war dramas ever made.
Another quality reaction from you, thanks.
Such an awesome documentary showcasing a remarkable group of people. I can think of so many words to describe them based on this documentary but two that really stick in my mind are "courageous" and "amazingly humble".
So glad u did this one....
Is your icon from Akira??
@@NiaMakiReacts Yes! Was a teen in the 90`s. Im so old that we watched it on laser disc.
PS: Your the first to notice(love your channel, dont change a thing).
PS;PS: Please do "ghost in the shell" the orignal animated...
There's other WW2 series in a similar vein, like The Pacific, which is very good also. But I really do think this was a very special bunch of guys. It's hard for any other series to compete with Band of Brothers, both with the series itself and also the real life characters involved. Was very happy to see you react to this doco, a lot of other channels don't. And also your reactions to the the series as a whole. You did a very good job throughout.
When you started watching the show there was one member of Easy Company left. Bradford Freeman died on July 6, 2022, he was the last member of Easy Company. The last officer Col Shames died on December 3, 2021.
Time for the Sequal the Pacific!
Sadly looks like it didn’t win the poll but it’ll be the next one after the new one I’m starting up on Patreon
You done great young lady! So proud of you
I believe that I previously wrote this to you.
Similar to you, I cried my eyes out throughout most of this series.
Watching it with you again, I cannot hold back the tears!
I am genuinely grateful that these men were able to tell their stories
through Ambrose.
I hope to your emotions spill forth for The Pacific too!
PEACE
I just love Moose "took a course in ornamental horticulture. Not much money but there's a lotta nice people"
This should be shown in every history class across the country.
The show IS amazing, but no more so than your are.. thank you my friend!
For the Fallen from an old Navy Corpsman-
Stand down now good and faithful servants. Your long watch is over. We have the Conn now. Go rest high on that mountain brothers. Be at ease, Rest in Honored Peace. Go forth and war no more. God's Speed and God bless. Prayers for your families and friends. Prayers for those still on watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas Brothers
All Hands render Honors as the 24 Hallowed notes sound.
And one more time this old Doc whispers,
Semper Fi........
Every episode was filmed in Hertfordshire, England. Except for Austrian scenes, which were actually filmed in Switzerland. They built a set, filmed, knocked it down and built the next.
Episode 6 and 7 were filmed on a sound stage indoors. The making of is well worth a watch.
What’s crazier about Winters is that he had NO military experience before this and had volunteered for the Airborne. I remember a story that Winters visited the set and went to say hello to the actors who were inside a covered truck in gear. His face went pale, didn’t say anything and left. Later said it was like looking into a truck of ghosts
To add a little to the story - Sobel died of malnutrition in a VA hospital after a failed suicide attempt left him blind.
its here!!
Sorry for the delay!
@@NiaMakiReacts no worries u have a life besides what i see on my screen lmaoo
Hi, this is a good documentary. Ron Livingston's Actor Boot Camp is humorous. Plus, it explains how the men of easy company became so and were not craft table thespians.
in the show it was done to show a tradition of offering ones Parole his word of honor that he would not escape or run away in the past you giving your sword was your word in that time it was his pistol instead of a sword
Towards the end of the war Major Winters accepted numerous surrenders and weapons from surrendering officers. They only showed this one.
I see, ok so the movie and series could be different moments
Let’s go to The Pacific.
Thanks again for your honest reactions. You understand. May I suggest watching "The Monuments Men?" It details how the Nazis were stealing the great art collections during the war and the group of soldiers charged with getting it back.
Winters accepted the surrender of dozens of German officers. He told of the pistol he kept from a major. The episode had him return it to a colonel. Different occasion.
That a number went into construction is not surprising given that they saw so much destruction it was probably a suave for their souls...
I believe the Eugene you saw listed as KIA was the guy who tossed his grenade into a window during the river patrol, went in thinking it had gone off, and was killed by the explosion -- not the medic we are familiar with.
Watch the Apocalypse series on WW1 and WW2. About 5 episodes in both series and both are VERY well narrated.
i love the Airborne.
Thank you again for the challenge coin 🥰
@@NiaMakiReacts no problem! i think it was appropriate, and a good incentive! that was a good run.
Hope you watch the Pacific next and Generation Kill after that.
watch Hacksaw ridge ...for your next war movie. Its hard to believe it is a true story
The rows of trees. Do you know why the French line their roads with trees? German soldiers prefer to walk in the shade.
How's it going Nia?
It did seem odd for them to change the officer's surrender and handing the gun to Winters. No idea why they did that.
Winters handled the surrender of a lot of officers so it's possible that he may have let the higher ranks keep their sidearms (like as shown in the series), but he kept the gun from the officer that was the same rank as him.
