You were definitely on the right track when you said it sounds like he lost a relationship and is depressed… I heard this song is actually about the death of his wife. Once you realize the meaning behind the lyrics, you’ll never be able to listen to it the same way again. “I see a line of cars and they’re all painted black, with flowers and my love both never to come back” - he’s talking about the funeral procession. I also recommend you listen to the cover of this song by Ciara. It’s got a much darker tone that matches the lyrics really well. It’s one of my favorite covers!
The song is about the funeral of his girlfriend and his feelings according to that. I have listen to this song many many times since it was released and thought it was about some kind of depressive state of mind and that was right. On the other hand i,ve never noticed that it was about a funeral until i saw a reaction on the song one year ago. I was thinking to my self how the hell could i,ve missed that during all these years, i almost fell down in the black hole myself haha. I sure have been there but not cause of this.
Clearly, the song is about the deep depression of grief & loss. He can't bear to look at anything cheerful, like sunshine or smiling faces or bright colors--the juxtaposition with his current emotional state makes it unbearable (he has to turn & look away). The line of black cars, flowers, and his love "never to come back," represent the funeral of a loved one. It (death & loss) happens every day, so the whole world won't join him in his grieving, but he probably wishes he wouldn't have to feel so alone in his pain--so therefore everything around him should be painted black to match his sorrowful mood & show the world the depth of his mourning.
To me, the red door is a symbol of love. Red can be paralleled to love and painting it black is symbolic of a black/ battered heart from love. He goes on to mention the girls in summer clothes & how he wants them painted black. How he just looks away. He doesn’t want to be around them because of that feeling of love. Black can also be symbolic to the feeling of fear. Maybe he was hurt & is living in fear of love. And rather than embracing the love, he wants it all to turn black down to his vibration. Kind of a “burn it all down” mentality Idk, just my perception of the song. Love the reaction Tom! Keep it up.
He lost his lover and all the cars painted black suggested a funeral and facing up when your whole world is Black. Because when your facing up in your casket all you see is black
Desiree is right it is about bereavement and the line she quotes is the key to it along with the line- i could not forsee this thing happening to you ... he is singing to his dead lover ( imaginary as far as i know) Rolling stones are the whole package , musically this was ground braeking and hypnotic with such depth and texture but the lyrics take it to another level - their lyrics in the best songs are unbeatable. You will need to react to Sympathy for the devil - do the official lyric version , Gimme shelter - the live version featuring Lisa Fisher ( that'll get you in the mood for the concert. also Ruby Tuesday and midnight rambler .... but thats just the beginning
I've seen this in movies on Viet Nam as well, and it has never failed to push the brokenness that war has given us. I love the use of symbolic imagery in this
"I look inside myself and see my heart is black. I see my red door and must have it painted black."; "I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky", "No colors anymore, I want them to turn black". How did public opposition to the Vietnam War, in America, affect the outcome of the war?
I think this is tied to a lot of Vietnam Vets and movies is because the way the song is worded can be easily related to the extremeness of the fighting they experienced/witnessed and then they come home hoping for a heroes welcome to only be spit on and called baby killers by their own friends and families. It portrays the feeling that nothing makes sense for them. They're dealing with all this PTSD and trauma and alienation from their own country and they're depressed and struggling to feel normal again with society. everything they should enjoy has lost its excitement, its vibrancy and so its all just become black.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE react to the artist “Gabriella Zauna” and her EP “I LIKE THE WORLD IN REVERSE” !! she’s literally such an underrated artist & her music is SO SO SO GOOD. lyrically beautiful & sad!!

Can you please react to a beach bunny song, she is a similar artist to Melanie Martinez and crosses over very serious topics such as needing love from someone who does not reciprocate it, and being left out by everyone. I’m a newer subscriber and would absolutely love to see more content like this, and Melanie Martinez.

OMG! You’re a “therapist “ and you miss clues like, “ I see a line of cars and they are painted black, with flowers and my love, never to come back.” I fear for you patients
@@ReactionTherapyOfficialcould u react to all the bandlab laroi songs if u go to laroithevibe channel you'll find a playlist called pinkstarnoise and laroi gave us all the songs because they arent releasing or unfinished but i think you'll like them
I liked your reaction brother, but you totally missed the two lines that explained the entire song. You should maybe have the lyrics in front of you. It would help when a song has a deeper meaning. 👍
Paint it black was a infamous anti-Vietnam war protest song it is basically meaning doing it evil things because America did a lot of evil in Vietnam rolling thunder for instance killed 60,000 civilians and a whole platoon running up 500 Vietnamese civilians and murdering them all
It’s for Vietnam seeing a red door the Vietnamese flag painting it black erasing Vietnamese, and the communist Vietnam. It’s a protest against America’s involvement with Vietnam.
"Like a new born baby, it just happens every day" = death.

So sad😢 thanks for giving me insight👍
Neither Richards or Jagger had a wife die before 1966 which is when this was released...
@@RustyVaperGameplay ohh ok. Like I said, that’s just what I heard, but maybe it’s a metaphorical wife/girlfriend.
@@desireeteegarden0921 The lyrics are based on nothing but the hypothetical narrator of the song has suffered loss.
@@desireeteegarden0921 I heard he had a girlfriend die, so that might have been the inspiration.

They use this song in alot of Vietnam War movies
I've seen this in movies on Viet Nam as well, and it has never failed to push the brokenness that war has given us. I love the use of symbolic imagery in this
Listen to "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'". One of their catchiest riffs ever and a 5 minute unrehearsed jam they didn't even know was being recorded.
The lyric is actually “I wanna see the sun, blotted out from the sky” not “don’t wanna…” but other than that this video is dope as hell.
A very interesting choice for the next Rolling Stones song, from a mental health perspective, would be "Mother's Little Helper"!!
ive listened to this song so much i never thoughtve what more the lyrics could have meant
The line of black cars is his love’s funeral.
One of my favorite songs by the stones
I think it's about a funeral so the red door would be a church door.
My favorite Stones song: You Can't Always Get What You Want!
"I look inside myself and see my heart is black. I see my red door and must have it painted black."; "I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky", "No colors anymore, I want them to turn black". How did public opposition to the Vietnam War, in America, affect the outcome of the war?
