    I was really surprised they made it retroactive to go back 6 or 7 years. I was expecting them to say they cars bought sometime after the NACS announcement would include a free adapter. • @ambee514
      @ambee514 Месяц назад +5

      Always good to have a contingency plan. To me the biggest advantage of supercharger over EA is the number of chargers per location.
      Typically an EA station will have four chargers. One will be out of order and two will be a Chevy bolt charging to 100% leaving one charger for everyone else. 😂 Most supercharger stations I have seen are typically 6-10 chargers that really makes a big difference on wait times.

      @@BlacqueJacqueShellacque_ what is EA?

    • @volcalstone
      @volcalstone Месяц назад +2

       @ambee514 people with free EA charging will still charge at EA even tho they have home charging. You're not gonna be able to change them.
      That being said Bolts shouldn't be allow at EA stations if you ask me. They shouldn't be leaving out of town period. There should be a requirement for using a 350kW charger. Minimum charging rate is 150kW and up. Bolt owners are allow only to charge for a max of 20 mins then they have to unplug to get in line again if there is one. At that point they will know how annoying they are to others when charging publicly. They can't go beyond 80% as well. As you can see I despise them or any cars that can't charge over 150kW.

    • @roger6246
      @roger6246 Месяц назад +2

      @@volcalstone I met a Bolt owner at an EA charger- they are generally clueless- but I don't blame them for taking any available charger. Fortunately for me another Ioniq 5 was just finishing up and was nice enough to let me know so I got the 350kW charger after only waiting a few minutes. Superchargers are expensive and of course slower than EA but there are lots of locations and very convenient to many travel areas.

In my opinion, it's not Hyundai's job to create things that work with other automakers cars (especially when they're giving them to existing owners for free.) People need to do their due diligence when purchasing things. If someone want's a 500A adapter, they exist and they can buy them. Do I wish they just made it 500A? Yes.

Eventually we might be able to see some real price competition at fast chargers but there are not enough of them so Tesla can rake in the profits for a while. Wholesale electric prices in Maryland are $.05 per kWh so $0.47 is letting Tesla recover their cost to install the chargers.

    The kia/hyundai adapter will only work for kia/hyundai. It doesn't support 500 amps. So it won't work for other cars. This is important if your family owns more than one EV

  • @johnhelinski
    @johnhelinski Месяц назад

    This is the kind of shit why Hyundai/Kia is so common these days.
    Their cars are decent enough, and they generally seem to care about their customers more than the other companies seem to (ie. Toyota GR Corolla controversy)

    Wasn't 1/15/2025 the date given for getting Supercharger access? Or is that just for Kia? I thought they are pretty much the same. Or at least the E-GMP ones are the same from a charging perspective.

    Thanks for the update. I have a NACS to j1772, it will be nice to get more than 90kw/hr. Unrelated question…I received the 24v-868 NHTSA recall for my ‘22 iq5. (My 12v was dead this AM so I am hay they are finally fixing this!) My dealer is Lia in Albany. I just made an appointment, expecting to hang out and wait like always. They said that it is drop off only. They would not tell me how long the car will be away! Any word on how long these repairs take? Thanks

    • @roger6246
      @roger6246 Месяц назад

      Our experience was 4 hours- and the 12V battery had to be replaced after two years and eight months. We installed a DieHard AGM with a three year warranty. Expensive but it was in stock for $244

      2025 Ioniq 5 (built in the US) will come with a NACS charge port as standard, along with a CCS adapter. But 2025 Ioniq 5 N (built in Korea) will still have a CCS port.

    @TheIonicGuy, do you have any concern for how close to their 350 Amp limit these will be pushed on the EV9 and other EGMP vehicles with that larger but lower-voltage pack when these are used at chargers that support >500V. I know they are labeled superchargers only, but 1000v support for those is supposed to start arriving in 2025

    I’m also wondering if NACS to ccs would also work to only charge ac, using the j1772 portion of the adapter. I assume not, that would make too much sense🙄

    • @TheIoniqGuy
      @TheIoniqGuy  Месяц назад +1

      No because the adapter would have to have a mechanical way to switch between CCS and J1772. NACS cars have this built in.
