From what I remember about Hanahaki as a fictional disease, the original intention of it wasn't really about one-sided love, but about suppressed emotions and desires. If your feelings are strong enough, even if you try to hide them, they'll find a way to make themselves known, hence the flowers. The way to cure it had nothing to do with getting your love requited, it was about the afflicted person confessing to themselves/the object of their feelings. Once the feelings are properly released into the world, the disease subsides. One-sided love is a pretty good way of ending up in that kind of situation, and it's easy to miss the underlying message about being honest with your feelings when you're getting sucked into a good romance story.
That doesn't make the modern takes on the disease wrong or anything, but I guess I find the original intention of it more appealing, narratively speaking. Don't bottle up your feelings, or they'll eat you alive from the inside out.
Yes, but it's also mostly about not verbally expressing your feelings, so it makes sense that it mutated (lol) into "Oh no, I love you so much, but you probably don't love me! Oh no, now I cannot tell you of my love!"
That's okay, I'm dead inside and could use the free gangrene clean-up.
I didn't know about it, but I like it much more. I don't like that in modern version, the object of your unrequited love basically has to love you back just so they don't feel guilty of manslaughter for the rest of their life. Looking at it as a problem you have all the power to solve, regardless of what another person feels, sounds much healthier
I'm aromantic so I thought I was safe in this scenario lol Apparently not, cause I definitely shove all my repressed feelings down.
This hanahaki thing had to have started with a tsundere character right? It has tsundere all over it.
this hanahaki scenario amuses me. oh, everybody is falling in love and dying? tragic. guess the aromantics rule the world now.
slight problem: what if the garlic bread doesn't reciprocate their feelings
Dame 😂 us aces being the most happy of all would be..well something
That’s assuming it doesn’t force it
Bro is acting as if a parasite would give a single damn about their sexual/romantic preference. Lmfao!
The disease makes y'all allergic to cake, garlic bread and Alastor.
ah yes, the literal "love is a parasite" joke
unrequited love is.
I mean, like the other person said, unrequited love can be harmful
To be fair, whenever someone attempts to describe "Love" they always manage to make it sound like torture to the point I'm convinced all allos are a little bit masochistic so it makes sense.
0:54, As a side because I’m a nerd, in some settings where it’s included the flower can be surgically removed, it doesn’t have to end in death, but it also removes your feelings for the person, the obvious implication being if you really love the person you wouldn’t want to be treated.
It’s actually mentioned in the description but you scrolled past it.
That's really ingesting
And in some version, their entire memory of the object of affection completely dissapear
@@Daycore_lovers yeah pretty brutal as someone narratively experienced in this fictional condition. Choosing to literally remove your affections as well as voluntarily forgetting everything about this person and who they are is crazy, though effectively ups the drama level in many literary works with Hanahaki.
@@fluffycorn_njst recommendations for stories with this type of trope please, the love doesn't have to be requited
@@Daycore_lovers It's common in virtually any fandom, so just go on AO3 and search for the tag. It's not likely that you'll find it in published books.
5:19 "ひきこもり" Hikikomori - basically people who are holed up in their homes for a prolonged period of time.
Usually written "引きこもり" with a less used forms such as "引き篭もり", "引き籠り" and various other forms but using more or less Hiragana.
@@kakahass8845 I can certainly go with more hiragana as that's what I actually know how to read
So far at least, I've been trying to learn japanese
a certain hikikomori got really popular
@@God_Yeeter Only one that comes to mind is Su-
@@God_Yeeter omori?
Ah yes, your first symptom you vomit plant parts and the next step is DEATH💀💀💀😂😂😂
To give a short overview of the usual genres/target audiences:
Shoujo 少女 = (young) girls
Shounen 少年 (young) boys
Josei 女性 women
Seinen 青年 men, older boys
And yes, your pronunciation was "interesting". "ou" is (usually) just a long "o".
usually as an example of an exception be お馬 (ouma) which is a formalization of 馬 (uma) which is a horse
@beaconblaster33 That's because it's in 2 different morphemes (a morpheme is the smallest unit of meaning whether or not it can exist on its own), so here お isn't part of the word 馬 so it doesn't change to おー same thing with 思う not becoming おもー.
Note: えい going to えー follows the same rule.
As much as I love this I'm sad for one reason and it's that this Hanahaki disease isn't as tragic and scary if it's an outbreak.
The most tragic part of Hanahaki is that everyone can have it and there's no protection or real cure and you can't be safe from it, and you will suffer alone without people suffering from it all around you who could understand how you feel.
Letting the flower of heartbreak bloom in your heart in the literal sense.
An interesting detail is that the infection is purple instead of the usual red. [Purple is nox eternis usually btw]
Hey yea well purple is vevry close to red not gonna lie but red is the defult color i think the creator of this scenario was trying some more diffriend
Hanahaki is a really bad fit for Plague Inc, honestly. It's a fun idea, but it's not supposed to be contagious, it's all interpersonal, psychological. It could possibly have developed some kind of comorbidity with, say, a parasite that causes strong feelings of attraction while at the same time ramping up the anxiety.
I like how the symptoms make a flower, its a nice touch
the Japanese shut it thing happens outside Japan too we just call it agoraphobia or something like that
The shut in thing isn't a phobia. It's closer to a major depressive disorder.
@@Squirreltasticqueen I didn't name it
Hanahaki havers seeing ace chads: They are immortal, Unkillable! We are witnessing the birth of the Ultimate lifeforms!
i kinda liked how your dna flow slowed down so you can talk about how paranoid the disease made people become. a bit like its not a bug, its a feature. also, on the topic of anime, i recommend Frieren. its such a nice watch, i think anyone can enjoy it to chill in the prime time
Came for Plague Inc (how I originally found this channel), stayed for Pravus. All hail Pravus.
There is a song that I really like by a RUclipsr named shiki Miyoshino about hanahaki disease called hanahaki syndrome and I strongly encourage everyone here to check it out it's crazy good
Thank yoh so much for the recommendation, the song was written by ghostandpals and i didnt know about it and ive listened to their entire discography even the really old deleted ones!
@@maggie3060 glad I could help!
Honestly, I thought the isolation thing made sense. If you have an unrequited love interest but you're refusing to go out and talk to them, that would prevent you from starting that relationship in order to cure it.
What a nice way to remind me of my heartbreak, Pravus.
Step 1: Sell the petals to a florist.
Step2: Make bank.
Step3: Charm your crush with your massive wealth you've gained from selling petals.
Now you have your crush AND you no loner cough out petals
@@misacza3697 What happens when you stop making money because you stop throwing up flowers
@@Gazer7 what do you mean, neither of us is making money throwing up flowers currently. We'd just go to the original state of things, just with free money saved up from the flower-throwing-up period.
should laugh? should cry? should surprise?
Damn, I haven't seen this channel in years. And suddenly, it returns to my recommended with Hanahaki? Cool!
bro is the most non-anime person i know. as a hardcore manga reader, this man is a breath of fresh air.
Love the accidental implications that japan is neglectful
Small correction the "Ou" in 少女 (Shoujo) is pronounced like the first vowel in the diphthong /oʊ/ like in "Goat" but longer it is never an "U".
Just be glad he didn't read it as Soju.
I believe that if hanahaki disease was a thing, romance wouldn't be so culturally pushed. Because it could increase crushes.
I think I would rather vomit flowers than watch twilight.
"Greenland and the Caribbean apparently don't know what love is."
Do they want you to show them?
0:30 "It originates from Japanese shuu-jo manga, which I believe is the type of manga which is mostly marketed to young women."
Rule of thumb with Japanese words: Hepburn romanization pronunciation is as consistent as German pronunciation; if it's spelled a certain way using the Latin alphabet, it will always be pronounced the same way. Any extended *vowels* (not consonants, my mistake) will typically be spelled with two of the appropriate letter; the only exception is o (in this case, sho (しょ)), which is instead spelled as ou (continuing the example, sho (しょ) becomes shou (しょう)). What you pronounced was uu (in this case, shuu (しゅう)).
The pronunciation was really my only conniption here. You are otherwise correct.
Small correction えー is (usually) spelled えい so 2 exceptions and both are sometimes doubled like in 氷 (こおり) and 姉さん (ねえさん).
@@kakahass8845 You'll notice I was talking about how extended vowels (not consonants, my mistake) are *typically* spelled. An extended o (お) is typically spelled ou (おう), whereas the extended e (え) you spelled is *atypical,* evidenced by such words as neesan (姉さん(ねえさん)).
@@Virsteinn The way you wrote it implies that おー is always spelled おう I think it's worth mentioning that in some words おー is spelled like おお moreover it's especially important to mention that えい results in えー since you said おう is the only exception.
@@kakahass8845 "The way you wrote it implies" nothing, because I don't imply.
@@Virsteinn You can't just go "Nuh uh" but I don't feel like arguing so sure ok.
I'm so happy you've still been playing plague Inc! Your videos are the best, love your content Pravus, keep it up!!
Whoa hey! I"m a little late to this(by quite a long time haha), but I do appreciate you trying out my custom scenario! It's my very first one so I do understand that it's extremely scuffed and not really, well, "fit" for Plague Inc, but I did try to incorporate this the best way I could think of.
I was having a decent difficulty of trying to figure out how to make it more gradual, because all the numbers I was messing with in that regard simply didn't make it look any less immediate, and I kinda published it as that without doing more extensive testing on this-- absolutely my error with that. I do plan on either adjusting this or remaking it entirely from scratch and actually take my time on it. 💜
idea for a game mode: Realistic Human Counts (Double Mega Brutal). The human count goes up by 2 each second, but 1 gets changed to dead as well.
This dude sounds like Michael kolvack aka the VA of N/Jax/Angel dust
never in my 14 years, 6 months and 12 days of being alive would i expect to see a hanahaki plague inc mod
Good to see you! Praise Pravus!
I've seen a lot of people write about Hanahaki and the tale was that it was unrequieted love, or atleast they think so. If two people like each other but they dont tell each other, they get the Hanahaki disease until one of them confess to each other or one of them die. Even if they both like each other they ahve to confess or they both think it's one sided until the end.
Hello Pravus, I like your content, and I'd hope you continue to make more. May i ask that you attempt to complete the symptoms "tree" anytime you may have additional energy?
in its current state you def want to run the perk that gives DNA points from blue cure bubbles if your going to try it yourself.
The anime disease
This scenario sounds like a mix of The Ruins, Junji Ito, and Annihilation.
omg I haven’t watched u in a while yayyy
Did youtube shadow ban your Channel? I am not getting any notifications from your channel.
Ah, plague inc. It has been a while.
Praise Pravus!
Why does this feel so chaotic lol
Hi there, I'm a fan of the hanehaki otome, that's a unique manga too, but damn this is quite brutal
Btw if your wife recommended Fruit Basket and it's not really your cup of tea, I guess you can try the movie instead, it's about the parenting issues etc, would be great to watch with your romantic partner 🙂
Great video 😀
Dam i didnt think he would do dis one
"we just call it depression" 😂
You have the perfect voice to be a skyrim let's player. Idk why.
Jesus christ we've been here for more than 7 years...
I thought this was a oh no I’m becoming a plant Noooooooo
I love these videos
I must admit I spent most of the video switching the like ratio from 3.4K to 3.5k
daammmmm this game still alive
Please clarify this ‘hanahaki’ plague - it sounds similar to the one in Higanjima incident
when i saw Hanahaki Disease i thought of the one from Flowerfell(an Undertale au)
Do you have to the creator scenario to use or make them?
I haven’t been able to find this custom scenario on the switch version. Can someone please help me find it?.
I didn't really like anime or manga until my daughter got me to try watching Nanbaka which is set in a prison. The main warden has to try and stop a group of prisoners from escaping using some really strange ways whilst the prisoners have to try and think of ways that they hope the warden hasn't thought of. The female Warden has a massive crush on the main Male warden but he is terrified of her 'death glare' intense eye contact.
Sounds a bit like the parasite plant from Advance Wars: Days of Ruin
4:12 so, your parents?
Love it

Generic "Life sucks" joke, I just wanted to have a comment here
Isn’t Fruit Basket that one anime/manga that LOOKS adorable but then fukin does three backflips into oblivion?
Idk, I didn’t read it, but I heard fingernails getting taken off _somewhere_
Well it does start with main character living in a tent because her mom died and she doesn’t want to burden anyone.
you should watch madoka magica though!!
Anyone knows about manga or anime about the plague? I wounded if there reference about it
The Hanahaki disease is from Hanahaki Otome (manga). No official anime adaptation but there's a fan animation about Hanahaki disease called (When the Flower Blooms) by yonaPPi.
What's wrong with Twilight?? loll

You don't read manga? I recommend Kagurabachi. Tenoí.
