The melody is from "jesaig", by breton musician Gilles Le Bigot, composed in the late 70's. He played among other things in a band called Barzaz. You can find Jezaig/Jesaig on his other band Galorn self title album from 1978
There are re-releasing Spirit and re-recording Ven, releasing it as "The Early Years." It will be out August 17th, check their website for more details.
The Celts is the collective term for the people inhabiting (what we now know as) Ireland, Great-Britain, the northern edge of Spain, France, bits of Belgium; basically western and cental-eastern Europe, from about 800 BC till the fall of the Roman Empire in 476. The Romans called the Celts living in present-day France "Galli", and we derived the word "Gauls" from that. In other words, all Gauls were Celts, but only the (continentally) westernmost Celts were Gauls. Hope that clears it up a bit!
I love how ppl here are arguing about artwork for a fantasy game (Guild Wars 2), like it is a historical picture of sorts. There's even nothing in the description. And those guys on the picture aren't even humans....jeeez. Awesoem song.
Yeah. There's this movie called "Vercingetorix" that I'm sure the members of Eluveitie would hate just as much as I do. It is about the Gaulish rebel that defied Caesar. The "Gauls" in that movie have horned helmets. For one, they were Celts, not Vikings. And Vikings didn't even wear them! I actually caught one of the "warriors" wearing jeans. Please check it out if you don't believe me.
In true Viking usually wore helmets with nose guard, and usually with protection around the eyes. But it is true that the Vikings animal furs, like a wolf, as capes used
Their helmets still looked awesome though. And they were as ruthless as demons. One Viking was known as the Child-lover because he refused to throw captured babies up in the air and catch them on the point of his sword.
great tune. Based on traditional Breton jam. The first primal scream and jump into the distorted guitars reminds me of the Gods awakening from a slumber and rising to take their place in a new world.
I like how everyone here is a historian specialized to ancient Northern-Europe, having an argument incited by the perfunctory historical features of an obviously stylized artwork, the reasoning dimmed by your "metalhead-childish" aversion to christianity repels the objectivity which is of utmost importance if you intend to be validly knowledgeable in the events of the past.
@WinterMisanthropy Valkyries are the angels who takes the brave fallen warriors away to thors hall wallhalla where they can celebrate 4ever and Vrykuls are based on the icegiants form jotunheim

nor did they ever use duel bladed axes (or even in the size on 2 handers). They folk lore inspires and creates the beauty that is know today as a Viking.
actually they had, the higher people in the army had the right to carry horns, its true that most of them didnt want that, because they would stand out too much and it made the helmet pretty heavy.
I really wish they still made songs like this...
+Inkshooter they will release a album with songs like that song this year.

There were some helmets with horns on them but they were never used in battle, only for ceremonial purposes
