My goodness! I've been searching for almost two hours looking for a video that features a hard top tent installed on the actual roof of the truck as opposed to a bed rack. I was beginning to wonder if that was even possible and if I was overlooking something obvious. Unlike most people, I don't want to lose the utility of my truck bed (I also have a hard roll up tonneau cover). This is such a relief to see this is possible. Thanks for the vid!
kind of difficult to support 165 pounds of the tent by itself without a body. The Thule she has only supports 165 pounds. I'm considering a diamondback tonneau + roofnest, just not sure there's a roof rack (not a bed rack) system that allows for around 600 lbs (165 tent + 200lbs body + 150 lbs body). If there is please let me know.
spending any time under canvas , i reccomend trying a few different sets of ear plugs ( some are better and comfier than others ) i spent 9 months up scotland in all kinds of bad stormy weather BUT ear plugs really do help ., i love camping being outdoors testing equipment , usually lightweight back packing gear + carrying lots of pro camera equipment , it helps to choose the best gear you can afford , love the roof rack tent awesome kit
I would extend the ladder the opposite way; starting to extend from the bottom instead of the first. I found that if you extended the top and not the bottom, it’ll sometimes act as a spring when standing on the ladder. This is the best way of you don’t intend to fully extend the ladder. Keep up the great work!
That's awesome. No worries about where to set up your tent, just park it and your sleeping quarters are right above you. I also love the ease of setting up the roof top rent as well.
I’m glad I saw this video. I too have a full sized truck, and was looking for reviews for mounting over the cab versus the bed. I have a bed cover, and didn’t want to have to lose the ability to get into the bed of my truck.
My plan is to have a front runner slim line II roof rack on my super crew cab with a wind dam. And set that roof nest falcon xl further back using the roof rack to support the front and a Yakima adjustable bed rack to support the rear of the tent . Plan is entry into the tent from my pickup bed . Got a big K9.
Nice vid Allie. Hey, just a quick tip about the ladder. Instead of extending the ladder and then hooking it to the tent, try undoing the velcro strap then lifting the ladder up and hook it on the tent and let the weight of the ladder extend itself out. You just guide it down. This should be easier and faster for you. I just mounted this same tent in the std width on my jeep about a month ago. I love it! It's a total game changer for overlanding.
Thanks for the review! I’ve been trying to decide if I want more space with Condor XL or get the Falcon XL for the ease, and the ease of Falcon XL is hard to beat!
Thank you. You’re standing on top of the pickup bed/wall to pack it so it works well for a pickup whether the tent is stop or in the bed. But for a midsize suv looks like you’d need another freestanding on its own ladder to pack it? unless you’re a performer in Cirque D’soleil?

Very nice tent and great review Allie, always figured if we went with a roof top it would be a hard top, you showing how easy it was to set-up and break-down sold me on this one. Thanks
I have a short bed Ram. With bed racks/bars the tent would overhang the tailgate by over a foot. Would you still mount it on the bed? If mounted on the roof, any concern exceeding roof load with people up there?
I haven't had an issue with roof load. That's the exact reason I didn't put mine on the bed. I don't think it would be an issue, but I chose to go up top!
Thank you for the review and time spent on making the videos. Definitely helpful in making my choice for which brand of RTT to go with. Largest selling point for me is the setup and break down time as rather than spending my time with setup and breaking down my tent or hammock, with a larger portion of the year I spend in a tent/hammock that time definitely starts to add up as down time from the activities that I rather choose to be doing then setting up a proper camp and sleeping quarters.
Hey, I'm planning on getting the falcon. I'm debating between to either go with a roof rack system or a Bed rack system to mount the tent. How did you like your current setup( on top of the roof) . If you were to redo it, will you consider to go with the bed rack or stick to the roof rack setup ?
Hello, I am looking at some Roofnest tents as well. Can you store your bedding in this tent when closed? If not do you find it not to be an issue or would you rather have gone with something like the Sparrow Eye tent?.
I don't leave anything up there, but don't find it being an issue anyway. I'm sure you could get away with leaving sleeping bags or a couple blankets though.
I have the same tent and it is hard to latch shut, did you have this problem? You make it look easy. Also I do not have anything in the tent. Thanks for the video.
I bet the tent would stay noticeably warmer if you wedge some foam strips between the roof and the bottom of the tent. This would prevent constant cold airflow underneath the tent.
@@OutdoorsAllie Cold floors suck. You could also put down an internal insulating mat as well (or maybe two halves), and probably just leave it (them) in place.

Im hoping it fits my truck, otherwise I need a bedrack and I dont want that. Any help is welcome and thanks in advance for your assistance!
My truck has a cab that's where I normally sleep when I go out in the woods or hunting. It's a good idea to get a rooftop tent than being on the ground.

Just put this on my Jeep Wrangler JLUR. How do you know when to stop torquing down the nuts on the brackets that go around your roof rack crossbars?
Add some washers, lock washers, and some medium duty loctite, then you don't have to worry about over tightening the nuts.

I would like to know as well. ive been researching and can not find a roof rack that supports more than 165 pounds
Mine is an older model Thule. Not sure of the name. Haven't had any issues other than its a bit noisy on the highway.
What do you do with your beddings everyday? Pillows, sheets, blankets?
Wash after every trip or every few trips depending on how dirty it gets!
