As an Englishman I must say that Scotland is a beautiful place to visit and I love going up there. Favourite place - St Andrews where I go to play golf for three days each year.

We went over to Glenrothes last week, did not make it to St Andrews but that gives us a good reason to go again. It is beautiful, but there are lots of beautiful places in the rest of the UK, the main thing though... there is not as many people about, nor as many vehicles . A cafe we visitred at erm Kingshorn ! it took them a while to make our lunch, I was on my second latte by the time lunch arrived, then again we were not booted out to make room. Pulled into a car park overlooking the bay, only two others cars and no cars on the EV charger, 15p per kwh ! bargain. The best bit about driving around Scotland, for the vast majority of the time you can forget about who is running the country, or is that ruining ! Our next trip is going to be somewhere in the middle about 60 miles north of Glasgow, or go a bit further towards Ben Nevis ! Partners family come from Cromaty, so I have to pop up there !

My wife and I drove the 500 way back in the 80s, it then became well known by the late 90s! We have driven and walked most areas in Scotland - we are born and bred here in Scotland! Midges are a gang in their millions when near heather or forestry, a midge net for your neck and face helps, also skin so soft (oil) helps to keep them from landing on you! You need to visit the Scottish islands - Skye/Harris/Lewis etc! There is so much to view/visit here in this fabulous country of ours! Haste ye back!

However it's surprisingly colourful and full of life underwater which you will see if you don a wetsuit and fins, mask and snorkel. There is even an underwater nature trail near Lochinver for snorkellers.

Fabulous photography !! Love Scotland but the midges are a real pain.... head net and long sleeves are a must . They say if you mention on FB you're going out walking in west Scotland, 20,000 midges will like your post...

I'm glad you enjoyed Scotland. The world is just discovering that we have some of the most beautiful, pristine, secluded and quiet beaches in the entire world. This issue is of course that it is usually wet or windy. But there are so many white sand beaches without any buildings nearby let alone people and hundreds that don't even have roads leading to them.
I'm afraid that the "secret" is climate change. Records are broken every year and we now have many more days of sunshine and record temperatures. Although we also still have plenty of days of rain, so don't plan a beach holiday.
