I also think when she says "roaring twenties," she means they were in the twenties when they dated. Her vocals also got me -- so upfront and full, and the humor: "in my defense I have none," etc.
The Great Gatsby was set in the 1920s, so you were spot on there and it’s one of Taylor’s favorite books! As we know, Taylor almost always has more than one meaning, so while she is meaning her twenties, she is also most likely tying it to the actual 1920s as well, making a comparison of how both were big and full of dreams. i’m in love with the line “and if you wanted me, you really should’ve showed” because in one way, she means you should’ve showed that you wanted me, but she also talks about movies a lot in this song (showings), so she also means you should’ve showed when i needed you
