How To - Snorkels! And Vent Lines

  • After 3 weeks of head scratching, careful plastic cutting, and sticking pvc pipe together and hammering it back apart, I finally came up with a snorkel design that fit and looked the way I wanted. I'll cover the process pretty much from start to finish in this vid, as well as replacing and rerouting the vent lines.

      Haha thanks! There is one thing I ended up having to do differently. The PVC cement did not hold, I ended up using JB Weld there instead, and it lasted until the machine burned down.

    Here unless I said otherwise everything is 3"
    Engine Snorkel
    2x Street 90
    3x Street 45
    1x Street 22
    1x Flex couple
    2” to 3” flex coupler
    Lengths of pipe: 3 1/2
    Tip cut at 45 short side is 2” from end of pipe
    Belt intake
    1x Street 90
    3x Street 45
    3” flex couple
    Lengths of pipe: 4 ¼, 3 ½, Tip
    If you have the secondary intake you also need Drain Tee, and street 22 (I think the street 22 and one side of the drain Tee are not 3”)
    Belt exhaust
    1x Regular 90
    1x Street 90
    2x standard 45
    1x street 45
    2x 3”flex 90
    Length of pipe: 14, 4, 2 ¾, 2 3/8
    Other:
    Gutter guard mesh
    20’ 3/8 OD (1/4 ID) Clear hose for vents
    Metal hose clamps to attach snorkel to roll bar

      Total
      4x Street 90
      1x Regular 90
      7x Street 45
      2x Regular 45
      1x Street 22
      2x Flex Coupler

      Will Pontius - lol I've handled a lot of pvc over the years. I agree they need better systems in place for the intakes and clutch exhaust. Good news on the radios, I can't wait to hit the trails with them!

    Weather broke long enough to do the snorkels on my 2016 Polaris RZR 900 Trail. Only had a few issues one was they weld on bracket to the rolll bar for after market seat belt harness to mount to, I try many ways to get around them (none looked good) so if you aren't welling to cut them off you may not want to try these. If I had the secondary clutch intake hose there more then likely wouldn't have had enough room for the exhaust hose to leave wheel clearance. They look great. Thanks a lot for taking the time to make the videos.

      nightweb11 awesome, hope it helps you. since it's a trail, make sure there won't be any clearance issues between the belt exhaust snorkel and the tire. the 50" width will almost certainly give you problems there, you may have to do something else there. keep me posted

    great videos

    • @RZRsEdgeInMotion
      @RZRsEdgeInMotion  7 лет назад

      Bill P - good advice, this had occurred to me shortly after making this vid, and I drilled a small vent hole in each tube to let gasses escape, below the top of the vent lines itself so there was no chance of water managing to drip down into the lines. thanks for reminding me, maybe I should update the info and mention that.

    I don't know about 2015 & 2016 you could go to a deal to find that out. I have the after market 4 point harness so where the bracket is the two claps that hold the snorkels is where the outer belt fit, I am concerned the claps may cut into the belts so I am going to put a some rubber over the belt and under the claps to hold belt in place. if you are run the stock belts it isn't a problem. the exhaust 45 rubber elbow has to be put up tight to the bed. give around 4 inches of room from elbow to tire. I used a tie down to put down the springand tire didn't hit the elbow. I don't do any jumping so I not worried. I hope this helps.

    Great video watched the entire video only question I have is do you have problems with stuff getting kicked off the tire into that flex tube for the belt exhaust? Just looks a lil close to tire for my liking but well done.

    • @RZRsEdgeInMotion
      @RZRsEdgeInMotion  7 лет назад

      Cody Flick thanks :) yeah I'll admit placement of that one isn't perfect, I struggled on where to put it for a week. made 3 different ones before that one. the only way to get it out of the line of fire was to move it toward the back and over next to the back roll bar, and also lower it. it looked awful that way.
      it does have a few splash marks in it, but they are just around the tip. the good thing is when the tires are spinning, so is the belt, and there's a significant amount of air coming out of that tube. I've yet to get anything past the screen. time will tell I suppose

    • @RZRsEdgeInMotion
      @RZRsEdgeInMotion  7 лет назад

      Ken Stegmann I would think so, doubt there's been any updates in those areas. visually verify everything is where I show it before doing anything you can't easily undo. also be careful with clearance between the tire and clutch exhaust tube, I have offset wheels which gives me more room there, a couple inches or so

  • @nightweb11
    @nightweb11 7 лет назад +1

    update on put on the rzr trail models: For me my wheels never leave the ground so there's enough clearance, my friend just pick up a used rzr trail with drive train problems for a good price. He spend most of the time in the air so there's not going to be the clearance he needs. He is going to lift and widen it so he is doing this snorkel because doing all that he's doing will give him the clearance. So if you have a stock rzr trail and plan on driving like my friend you met not want to do this snorkel.

      Thanks, but unfortunately no, it won't work on an XP, totally different. I have snorkeled a 1000, I really should have filmed it, but I didn't because it was a trial run and I didn't know how long it was gonna take to get right. Turns out it didn't take that long and came out great. Maybe one day someone will want me to do another one and I can film that one.

    Great video man Im always looking to make something out of nothing. I have a 2015 Rzr 900 Trail. Do you know if its the same as yours besides yours has 2 more doors? Do you think it would be possible instead of having 3 snorkels to combine the 2 on the left so you only have the matching 2? I really wanna keep my bed. I also have a back window.

    • @RZRsEdgeInMotion
      @RZRsEdgeInMotion  7 лет назад

      Dave Burkhart the trail is much more narrow than mine, the belt exhaust done this way would not work for you unfortunately, the 2 flex 90's would be right where your tire is. also no you can't combine them, one pulls air in, the other pushes air out. you'd create a loop of increasingly hot air that would burn your belt up in no time

    • @RZRsEdgeInMotion
      @RZRsEdgeInMotion  6 лет назад +1

      BigTimsTowing - lol :D On a 2 seater it does make a fair bit of noise. On the 4 seater they are far enough back where it just sounds cool. Oddly enough it's not even that bad from the back seat, which obviously makes no sense. Must be some sort of acoustic effect from the larger cab, I dunno. Couple things I've done differently is use jb weld on that exhaust 90, and I shortened the exhaust riser a couple of inches

    • @BigTimsTowing
      @BigTimsTowing 6 лет назад +1

      RZR's Edge In Motion thank you for the reply like I said you did a very neat and clean job and that is what I would like to do with mine and Yes mine is a two-seater I haven't had a chance to ride mine for I bought it brand new 2017 and put it in my shop and trying to bulletproof it before I take it out. I do have high concerns about water getting into the clutch exhaust. I have read where a few people said the snorkels make the exhaust loud and was just curious how yours turned out. Thank you very much and happy New Year to you and your family. Hopefully meet you on the trail one day.
