I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Kerry Washington’s being the lead is the ONLY reason I watched last night. I was worried upon the opening scenes, but as the characters became more established, it got better. I believe actress Shanice Shanta, who portrayed Johnnie Mea, had the breakout performance. I hope she is able to build off this movie.
My exxxxxxact thoughts 💬 watched for Kerry and was super impressed by Johnie Maes performance and i can always spot a superstar right away and that gal is the truth . Looks like a young Octavia Spencer
It would have been right if he actually had some freedman in lead roles. The two main actresses are both immigrants. One a born immigrant, and the other an African.

Watch the PBS special and hear from the woman who we’re actually there. The part about the women killed combat was real snd very sad. Kerry Washington was good.
It's not the acting but it is the direction at times that takes me out of the movie. Most importantly the dialogue. Some of it is just not great. But the movie is not bad. Doesn't look cheesy and terrible like some of his other movies. It is hallmark like. Many people like the more melodramatic style of movie. I just wish Tyler Perry would have someone refine the dialogue. This is evident in the cartoonish villain. However...... Sometimes I see people acting just as clownish on the news these days. Oh yes, how brave to suffer the cold of a English winter working long hours. You would think men were actually being killed to save the free world, oh wait.
This movie was absolutely amazing! Bravo to all involved 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾.. This is Tyler Perry's best movie. Honor to the women that served our country. Oscars all around!
Wow, I saw a different film. The script and the writing fell short. The characters are never really fully developed and just there flat. There were just to many holes in the narrative, I wasn't sure who the main character really was and from what lense it was being told from. It felt all over the place. As Black people, we love our hidden stories being told, but we should also be honest when the telling of the story falls short. Tyler directing does get a nod, but he should have hired a Script Writer!
Yes!!! This!! I, too, felt like so many essential characters were one dimensional and sidelined. We honestly saw more of Abram than anybody. Plus, Lena, who was portrayed as the "protagonist," didn't have any real depth to her character.
Six Triple Eight is definitely a must see film. I rank this in my top 5 favorite Tyler Perry movies. I would rank it #1 Kerry Washington and Ebony Obsidian did an outstanding job in their roles. They deserve all the accolades the industry has to offer.
At first, I was disappointed that the opening montage was "white men at war" but I quickly realized that it was an entry point for telling the story of the magnificent women of the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion. LTC Adams-Earley's awe-inspiring work didn't stop when she left the military. She accomplished so much in her lifetime! The PBS documentary, The Six Triple Eight (2019) includes testimony from the women who served. I wish the film had included a sequence when the battalion was boarding a ship to return home & white WACs didn't want to board the ship with the Black women. LTC Adams told them to bounce & find another way home if they didn't want to ride with the sisters. After all they'd been through, they still had to endure irrational, pointless racism. Bless everyone who brought this story to life on screen.
I’m so glad I saw this movie alone. I CRIED LIKE A BABY. I’m so honored to be born a black. This movie was powerful to me. So much BS our grannies had to go through that we took for granted. 😢
@@kokoalaska9888 It did bring out a lot of emotions. I have seen at least 3 documentaries and read several papers about the 6888. They are jewels in our crown.

This is a movie about what they endured, as opposed to what they accomplished. He made this an "us vs them" story... The IMDb and RT scores are correct here.
When in the history of the U.S. to date has it not been "us vs them"? It speaks volumes that you don't hold those who displayed unprovoked incivility to black female soldiers accountable as "victimizers". I enjoyed the movie.

I looked forward to movie but not very good from opening scene. I felt this was a made for tv hallmark film with very bad dialogue, directing and acting. Tyler Perry has missed the mark with a very important historical moment in history. I’m glad I didn’t pay for this. I been waiting on this movie since March of 2023 because it was filmed in Cedartown Georgia .I got to walked down main st . Its the at start of the movie they change all the stores to look like 1942 .
This was definitely a great movie... The only change I "might" have made is to start with Kerry Washington's character instead of focusing on the character who lost her boyfriend... But, that might be my nit-pick... and yes that end scene got me too...
I had a issue with the fact that none of the lead actresses are US slave descendants. This story is not the history of any of those women. The least Tyler could have done was chosen people who can identify with this plight spiritually, historically and ancestrally.
@@rosezenamilloy8618 Are you serious? One has an African name and Kerry Washington is a known Jamaican. Besides that, like with other groups, we know our own people. It's not that difficult. I know immigrants think that they can cosplay us and we not know, but we know.
The story itself was good. However the only complaint I have is 1. Throughout the movie the timeline was kind of unclear 2. I didn't really feel a connection between the actresses (didn't feel like a sisterhood was being built) 3. The love story, again the actor and actress didn't really seem like they had a connection
I like the series but I just wish that the cast was more diverse. Why not toss in a few trans people Netflix? I don't care if it's historically inaccurate. Make It Happen!!!!!
I liked the movie but I felt like the movie was rushed, they should of got more into the dialog and details, and I thought these women were going to literally go to the front line and deliver the mail to the solders.
I thank you very much for your review. I will admit I am hesitant to watch this film. Tyler Perry has disappointed me multiple times throughout his filmography. The only reason I plan on watching the movie is because of Kerry Washington. She has been my celebrity crush since Save The Last Dance. Kerry has had versatile roles throughout her career (beyond the Scandal TV series). So, I am excited to see what she does in this film.
This movie is ok. Cinematography isn't great, the acting is so so and the writing is meh. There are black directors that could have told this story better, Nia Dacosta, Ava Duveney, Ryan Coogler, etc. Tyler Perry doesn't know how to set up a shot nor know how to direct actors. If you look at the Piano Lesson and see what Malcom washington did with that movie and then watch the Six triple eight, you can clearly see that Tyler Perry is not a good director and should not be telling our stories.
Should be taught? Wtf I don't agree with you on some things, you make some sense on certain aspects. But, are you really fn serious about the ridiculous statement you made saying that this should be taught in schools? You don't mean just watched, you mean by making this movie actual history. That is literally the stupidest thing I've ever heard anyone say about any movie ever. It's a movie. I still can't comprehend why someone would say that. Unless it was to get more attention to this review. But what a ridiculous thing to say.
@@justmyopinion84 oh boy, here comes the race card. It's got nothing to do with black people, it's got everything to do with the studio trying to push bs movies to further their agenda. Curious, have you ever heard of the 761st Tank Battalion also known as The Black Panthers? How about the 5th Army's 92nd Infantry Division, also known as The Buffalo Soldiers, how about the Red Ball Express? of ALL the things to make a movie about they choose a black female unit that were postal clerks who arrived in England at the END of the war to make a movie about. That's called projecting and it's absurd.

I was saying throughout the film that it felt like a play. I told my lady it would've been a better play than movie. Very good story though.
A broadway musical produced by Blair Underwood is in the works ❤
I agree with I found it to touch me. I like war movie that base on true story . so far it one more top movie for 2025 . I thought Dean Norris did good . I been waiting on this movie since March of 2023 because it was filmed in Cedartown Georgia .I got to walked down main st . Its the at start of the movie they change all the stores to look like 1942 .
I don't blame Dean Norris phoning it in, especially as his character was COMPLETELY FICTIONAL
It was a fantastic film. In my opinion it should go down as one of the best he has done.
It was great 👍🏾.
If Tyler Perry name is attached to it . I just can't watch.
This was definitely a great movie... The only change I "might" have made is to start with Kerry Washington's character instead of focusing on the character who lost her boyfriend... But, that might be my nit-pick... and yes that end scene got me too...
I love the movie the struggle was really real. The pain is felt deeply in my soul. Our was mistreated in so many different ways even today.
Great review, Brandon!
Appreciate it! 💪🏾💯
In my opinion his best films were The family that prays and Daddy's Girl.
Too bad this film wasn't seen in the theaters!!!!
Its in select theaters
@dallasgirl3470 I hope it's in my backyard I have a theater in Eatontown NJ that I attended most of the time.
No bleach!
Why with the Jewish victim issue at the beginning of the movie it supposed to be about Black women during ww2 .
Black progressives and gatekeepers can't help themselves!!!
That's why Trump won!
Because the story is about black women. What did you not understand 🙄
I like war movies and period pieces. I like the colours of the film-the cinamatography i guess. It was enjoyable. Hallmark film i guess. I liked it
I had a issue with the fact that none of the lead actresses are US slave descendants. This story is not the history of any of those women. The least Tyler could have done was chosen people who can identify with this plight spiritually, historically and ancestrally.
How would he know who was a slave descendant when casting?
@@rosezenamilloy8618 Are you serious? One has an African name and Kerry Washington is a known Jamaican. Besides that, like with other groups, we know our own people. It's not that difficult. I know immigrants think that they can cosplay us and we not know, but we know.
The story itself was good. However the only complaint I have is 1. Throughout the movie the timeline was kind of unclear 2. I didn't really feel a connection between the actresses (didn't feel like a sisterhood was being built) 3. The love story, again the actor and actress didn't really seem like they had a connection
Thank you Ms. Washington excellent acting. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🏆👑❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
I agree! I was so inspired by her performance!
At 7:03 Washington had the rank of LTC NOT MAJOR
I like the series but I just wish that the cast was more diverse. Why not toss in a few trans people Netflix? I don't care if it's historically inaccurate. Make It Happen!!!!!
How do you know there weren't any?
🎉🎉🎉okay Tyler Perry 🥳🥳🥳
I loved it.
Beautiful film!!🩷🩷🩷
i wonder when the movie about the heroic cooks in the war or the heroic laundry teams coming...

To sort through this in 90 days
This movie is ok. Cinematography isn't great, the acting is so so and the writing is meh. There are black directors that could have told this story better, Nia Dacosta, Ava Duveney, Ryan Coogler, etc. Tyler Perry doesn't know how to set up a shot nor know how to direct actors. If you look at the Piano Lesson and see what Malcom washington did with that movie and then watch the Six triple eight, you can clearly see that Tyler Perry is not a good director and should not be telling our stories.
I was t feeling it . The fairly tale love story at the beginning seem unreal...
That was actually a true from Leena king! ❤
What a load of shite. What's next, the cooks who fed the troops or the men assigned to latrine duty?
Hmmmmm.....I'm curious what did Black people do to you to make you so hateful?
@@justmyopinion84 oh boy, here comes the race card. It's got nothing to do with black people, it's got everything to do with the studio trying to push bs movies to further their agenda. Curious, have you ever heard of the 761st Tank Battalion also known as The Black Panthers? How about the 5th Army's 92nd Infantry Division, also known as The Buffalo Soldiers, how about the Red Ball Express? of ALL the things to make a movie about they choose a black female unit that were postal clerks who arrived in England at the END of the war to make a movie about. That's called projecting and it's absurd.
I loved it!
Forget the beaches of Normandy, sorting mail is tough work.
I didn't like the movie and both my parents served and i am 62
Nah i'll past
