JollyGul.com is pleased to present "Bhairavi Dhun" by Mahesh Pathmakumara accompanied by Peshala Manoj (tabla). This is part of our Indian Classical Music & Dance Series to enhance the awareness and understanding of this tradition in our community and in our audience.
Bhairavi Raga is one of the fundamental ragas of Hindustani music. The raga is full of very sweet melodies. The range of the raga, which is an endless melody, is very wide. Bhairavi Raga is one of the sweetest ragas in Hindustani music and is widely used in devotional songs in India.
This dhun is performed with Mishra Bhairavi raga. In any mishra (mix) raag, used in light and semi-classical settings to enrichen the music and make it more playful, there is the main raag built up and skillfully mixed with other raag or notes without breaking the main raaga mood.
Dadra Taal is a Hindustani taal (6 Matra/beats Cycle). The Dadra Taal is usually used for light classical music in Hindustani Music.
This Bhairavi Dhun piece is composed by Mahesh Pathmakumara to convey a mood of kindness and calm. It has been inspired by the music of Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan Saheb.
