Easy Rider was the first movie to not commission someone to make a soundtrack. They got a bunch of rock and roll songs and put them in the movie instead. As a result the album soundtrack sold really well.
This song came out before the movie. This song and this movie motivated me to buy a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. And many other guys did the same thing. The very first concert I ever attended was headlined by Steppenwolf in September, 1969.
This song was the first to use the term 'heavy metal' in the lyrics. The term was used in drag racing, and this song is seen by some as the start of heavy metal. The song was inspired by drag racing, but became a motorcycle anthem due to the movie.
Peter and Jane are siblings. Their dad is Henry Fonda, who was in many movies. One of his most famous one is "On Golden Pond" in 1981. That was the last movie he was in. He died in 1982...his granddaughter is Bridget Fonda. Peter is her father...
Fun Fact: "Born To Be Wild" was a huge hit for Steppenwolf, going to #2 in America, where it spent three weeks behind "People Got to Be Free" by The Rascals. Released on their first album, it was their third single, following "A Girl I Knew" and "Sookie Sookie," which both flopped. Most people knew the band through "Born To Be Wild," but they developed a strident fanbase (known as the "Wolfpack") thanks to the album, which got a lot of airplay on FM underground radio stations. They repeated this pattern on their next album, Steppenwolf The Second, which had a huge hit with "Magic Carpet Ride" and plenty of deep cuts their fans sank their teeth into. These core fans kept the band going for the next 50 years, long after the hits dried up.
They used the Sentence "HEAVY METAL THUNDER" for the first Time in Music History.SAXON picked it up and named their Album after it.Later it became the Genre Name of one of the Greatest Music Scene ever !
Yall NEED TO WATCH "EASY RIDER" another STEPPENWOLF song opens that movie, "THE PUSHER" "MAGIC CARPET RIDE" is another great song "SOOKIE SOOKIE" in high school in the 80's I loved this band, still do
I'm 66 and and as young kid, I remember hearing this song coming out of my older brother's room and thinking ive never heard anything like it! Thank you brother!
Yes, that's a movie. "Easy Rider", starring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson. A '60s cult classic. Funny that you mention early metal. The lyric "heavy metal thunder" is thought to be the first musical reference to "heavy metal".
Easy Rider is one of the greatest, but hard to watch movies, ever made. The full soundtrack is awesome as are the legendary actors. Dennis Hopper,Peter Fonda, Jack Nicholson, and so many others.
Steppenwolf doesn't get enough reactions. They were HUGE late 60's eary 70s. And John Kay has one of those iconic rock and roll voice. They had some big hits but their 7th album is still my favorite. You should check out Foggy Mental Breakdown, Snow Blind Friend, and Renegade off Steppenwolf 7. Renegade is actually based on the true story of singer John Kay's family fleeing from Soviet Germany in 1948. It's an unheralded classic imo, Te album is a great period piece and John Kay needs more props.
could never watch this movie again., however, steppenwolf was a favorite. many good songs. snow blind friend is particularly moving, written by the great Hoyt Axton.
Actually German Canadian American. John Kay is German. Born in Germany in 1944, then Canada when he was 14 then buffalo NY when he was 19. The other 4 members are 2 American and 2 Canadian
This was one of the first records I ever bought, along with Santana's "Black Magic Woman". It took me months to collect enough pop bottles to pay for them! 🤣😆😛
If you don't listen to 'the Pusher Man' you will have missed the Steppenwolf experience. Also Steppenwolf was the god-like guy that stold the mother boxes in the movie Justice League.
I saw Easy Rider in the UK in 1969 (I was 16). First film that I had seen without a traditional soundtrack but with songs from bands of the time. I was shocked at the portrayal of America at the time. Little did I know that this cultural divide would persist into 2024. I am surprised you did not recognise Jack Nicholson.
When my friend, my go-to bassist, a true psychic blood brother in music and occasional band mate over the past 4 decades passed away recently, I was gifted the vintage 6 piece set of Ludwigs he had acquired for his home studio some years back. The first time I played on them he made the claim that they once belonged to Jerry Edmonton, the original Drummer from Steppenwolf. I asked if he got any papers of authentication or any supportive evidence to back it up. He said no but it's supposedly true from what he had heard. Who knows if it's true or not but he would say, "It sounds like it could be true, though, don't it."😅 Just thinking how weird it would if they're the drums used when recording this song!
Morning guys! Love this song and of course the "magic carpet ride" fun looking motorcycle movie! I miss those times riding with my friends when I was younger, it's such a free feeling! Great choice!❤🤓💯
The soundtrack album from "Easy Rider" was the very first LP I bought with my own money in 1969. It had the song "The Pusher", also by Steppenwolf, and it had the lyric "God Damn the Pusherman", you NEVER heard language like that on the radio in the late 60's. The video was made up of scenes from the movie, and yes, Peter Fonda was Jane's brother, and Henry Fonda was his Dad. But the song from the movie you need to play next is "If 6 Was 9", by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. It is just cooool. The movie was Directed by Co-Star Dennis Hopper, and included an appearance by Jack Nicholson as a drunken Lawyer.
Guys Easy Rider movie featuring young actors who became well-known actors: Peter Fonda & Dennis Hoppers as the riders while young man wearing football helmet is Jack Nicholson. Those bikes were known as choppers, 1st built by Harley-Davidson then custom modified by their riders as choppers. Today, those bikes are priceless.
In 1970, Easyriders Magazine founded by Lou Kimzey. Magazine featured nude or topless women photos and bikes. In 1979, new spin off mag called Iron Horse featured biker lifestyle culture.
Rock n Roll Racing's soundtrack included "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood and the Destroyers "Highway Star" by Deep Purple "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath "Peter Gunn Theme" by Henry Mancini "Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf "Radar Love" by Golden Earring (Sega Genesis and Definitive Edition only) "Breaking the Law" by Judas Priest (Definitive Edition only) "Red Barchetta" by Rush (Definitive Edition only) "Power of the Horde" by Elite Tauren Chieftain (Definitive Edition only)
Guerilla film-making. New Orleans Mardi Gras, 1969. Easy Rider. Classic film. Springsteen sings "Born to Run" and I suppose that line is a bit like "Born To Be Wild". Biker themes. The Byrds and Bob Dylan wrote a theme song for the movie and The Byrds titled their next album after it But for the full effect of that song check out the Fairport Convention recording of "The Ballad of Easy Rider" with Sandy Denny on vocals.
This song is from the movie Easy Rider. I saw it way back when in the theatre. Total iconic movie and a banger of a song. I got the trivia question about the gear heads as Bachman Turner Overdrive are from my hometown of Winnipeg, Canada 🇨🇦 I would suggest Not Fragile by them. Cheers
0:53 Meat Loaf! 4:34 Yeah that does sound like a terrible existence. However, I think it's just as funny when someone burps or farts, and sometimes I'll say out loud "Gross". Other times I'll respond with a golf clap.
I have heard this a few times including watching the movie in the cinema but never noticed what an ace the bass player was,, I suppose they may have cleaned that sound up some, bass tended to be a bit muddy and so lower in the mix back then.. It was a revelation to hear what great stuff Paul McCartney was playing ..
the footage is from the movie "easy rider", which begins with a drug deal at an airport, and closes with the roadside murder of both peter fonda and dennis hopper. fonda was the brother of hanoi jane. he packed it in recently.
In reference to the opening moments of your video: What you heard in your head is echoes of Bruce Springsteen singing; "Born in the USA! I was, Born in the USA!...."
There is no living human being more *DESPISED* by Vietnam veterans than "Hanoi" Jane Fonda. On a lighter note: Yeah, 'Rock-n-Roll Racing' had a hell of a soundtrack. 'Born to be Wild', 'Paranoid', 'Highway Star', 'Peter Gunn', 'Breaking the Law', 'Bad to the Bone', 'Radar Love', and 'Red Barchetta'. Good times.
When this song came out, there was no such thing as music videos. Peter Fonda is Jane's brother. Springsteen sang "Born to Run." Bachman Turner Overdrive, BTO, is an off shoot band of The Guess Who. You should do "The Pusher" by Steppenwolf.

I think the........
Grapes of Wrath (1940)
Is of Henry Fonda's best movies ✌️🙂

It's mandatory to have this song played during a road trip! The background you're seeing is from the movie Easy Rider.
Jack Nicholson with the Football helmet is the freaking best!!! Great reaction!
They used the Sentence "HEAVY METAL THUNDER" for the first Time in Music History.SAXON picked it up and named their Album after it.Later it became the Genre Name of one of the Greatest Music Scene ever !

ive met JOHN KAY randomly at a bar and he is a super chill person who was nice enough to share some rock n roll stories
I'm 66 and and as young kid, I remember hearing this song coming out of my older brother's room and thinking ive never heard anything like it! Thank you brother!
The one and only Jack Nicholson and the late greats Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda. Easy Rider was somewhat of a phenomenon.
Yes, that's a movie. "Easy Rider", starring Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nicholson. A '60s cult classic.

Peter(R.I.P.) and Jane Fonda are brother and sister..their dad is Hollywood legend Henry Fonda...
This song is indeed on soundtrack to Easy Rider.
You were thinking of Bruce Springsteen's baby, We were born to run
Or Born in the USA.
@@cyu5251 nah Different song different feel
@@cyu5251 That's what I was thinking. The word "Born" is almost sang with the same intensity in both songs/ however different the rest of the song is.
You have to see the movie.
Probably thinking of Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen
Or "Born to Run"
This song gave birth to the term "HEAVY METAL" thunder, the movie bits you see IS INDEED "Easy Rider" with a very young Fonda

Steppenwolf 7 was the first LP album I ever owned as my own. I received it as a birthday present from a cousin.
@@tfodthogtmfof7644 Your cousin had good tastes. :-) Wasn't my first LP but one of my favorites. Pretty sure I wore down the grooves.
It's impossible to ride a Harley without this song running through your brain.....
I bought my Harley because of it.
What an iconic song 🎵
Bruce Springsteen sang, Born In The USA.
I saw them live in 70. Great show
Peter was Jane's younger bro by 7ish yrs. He died in 2019.

Bruce Springsteen sang Born To Run-one of the most popular anthems of the 80s.
This was a must on a Friday, getting out of work song.
Guerilla film-making. New Orleans Mardi Gras, 1969. Easy Rider. Classic film. Springsteen sings "Born to Run" and I suppose that line is a bit like "Born To Be Wild". Biker themes. I was so young at the movies. I thought the guys on the motorcycles were singing the music.
The next two from Steppenwolf has to be Magic Carpet Ride and The Pusher

This song is from the movie Easy Rider. I saw it way back when in the theatre. Total iconic movie and a banger of a song.
I got the trivia question about the gear heads as Bachman Turner Overdrive are from my hometown of Winnipeg, Canada 🇨🇦
I would suggest Not Fragile by them.
Cheers
0:53 Meat Loaf!
4:34 Yeah that does sound like a terrible existence. However, I think it's just as funny when someone burps or farts, and sometimes I'll say out loud "Gross". Other times I'll respond with a golf clap.
They got their name after the cult novel of Nobel-prized writer Hermann Hesse(Der Steppenwolf).
Thank you both. 😊
Blue Oyster Cult did a cover of this song. They sounded like the original.
This song came out before the movie Easy Rider but was used in the movie.
Yep, the first time the words “Heavy Metal” were used. (Meaning the motorcycle but it stuck.)
I knew all three trivia questions. Plus, I am a gearhead. Also, this was my first ever karaoke song
I think this song was the first to reference "Heavy Metal"
Bruce Springsteen did make Born in the USA, which can be the song this reminds you of. You should totally react to that one
These guys are Canadian American formed in L.A. in late 1967.
Honorable mention to Germany for giving us John Kay.
the footage is from the movie "easy rider", which begins with a drug deal at an airport, and closes with the roadside murder of both peter fonda and dennis hopper. fonda was the brother of hanoi jane. he packed it in recently.
Thanks for the History refresher!
Screaming Night Hog is a dynamite tune from them! Thanks
The guitarist for Steppenwolf has one of the best rock names - Mars Bonfire. Best name in punk - Rat Scabies of the Damned

Good times.
Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper and Jack Nickleson! A brilliant movie
Peter Fonda was Jane Fonda"s younger brother.RIP.Peter
My parents took me to easy rider when I was 9. Lots of drugs, tripping on acid and mammary glands with gluteus maximus
Get in the trash can, look around for something awesome CORROSION OF CONFORMITY LONG WHIP/BIG AMERICA
Maybe you are recalling Bruce Springsteen's "born in the USA" especially since the "booooorrrrn" part almost sounds alike
This was used in a popular diaper commercial. Nothing is sacred.
Dude! rock and roll racing was so good!
More than 50% of men use the word funny to describe the Three Stooges, 67% of women say "stupid."
Peter Fonda was in easy rider , wild hogs and ghost rider
When this song came out, there was no such thing as music videos. Peter Fonda is Jane's brother. Springsteen sang "Born to Run." Bachman Turner Overdrive, BTO, is an off shoot band of The Guess Who. You should do "The Pusher" by Steppenwolf.
So this songs real name is 'Smokestack Lightning', but thats ancient history. 😅
Bruce Springsteen did a song called Born In the U.S.A
Pure Americana !
The singer is German
if you aint watched Easy Rider you must ,one of the best films ever made
Peter Fonda is Jane Fonda's brother. Henry Fonda is their dad. The Fondas are Hollywood royalty.
