One year on a beaver pond in northern Minnesota

- This video is a compilation of the wildlife that crossed a beaver dam just south of Voyageurs National Park from March 2019-April 2020.
This video was literally a year in the making! Beaver dams can be wildlife highways in boreal environments like the Greater Voyageurs Ecosystem, allowing all sorts of wildlife to easily cross wetland habitats which might be otherwise difficult to get across.
While the wildlife is undoubtedly neat, we particularly enjoyed watching the changing of the seasons on this beaver dam! It summarizes life in the Northwoods: cold snowy winters and hot, humid summers with lots of vegetation!
We are curious to hear what everyone enjoyed about the video!

That's cinnamon phase black bear was gorgeous!
1:43?
:)
@@ezrapotter4631 No hump but I thought it was a young grizzly. Which would be very rare in that area but not impossible. He's going to be a big boy no matter.
@@Dwightstjohn-fo8ki I'm no expert, but that bear didn't look like it had grizzly bear ears or the right muzzle shape, so I'd bet it's a black bear.
@@Dwightstjohn-fo8ki there’s no way a grizzly could make its way to Minnesota
Cinnabear...and a very rare ....crazy human....great stuff
lol
Shout out to the beavers that made all of this possible! Hard working little fellas
Destructive little bastards
And non-unionized, too.
:)
Yes. Poor beavers get a bad rep, but they are extremely valuable to many animal species!
@@thebrewmore264 No they aren't. Their dams and the subsequent flooded areas that result are actually very beneficial to all animal species. It creates its own ecosystem. Do research before spouting nonsense.
What is this be wildering creature? 0:25
Ah, that you see an enthusiastic biologist in its natural habitat
Oh i though it was a hippiust treehuggerust
:)
I was wondering about the same thing.. Very odd lil creature i must say!
A beaver, couldn’t see the tail...a muskrat?
Not a biologist, that's an NPS maintenance uniform. Could be trails maintenance.
This is so stunning and to have NO human element there except the trailcam. This is utterly astounding.
@no yes is that what that wacko thing was?!
And the dude running at the cam like a velociraptor
@no yes Oooh! So this was a human?! 😮
:)
This is what the world should look like
April 22 is the best! 0:27 LOL! Gotta love a biologist with a sense of humor! Keep up the amazing work! Beautiful wolves!
He’s a wild animal looking for his mother.
@@Nik_Airball I thought it was the Great Northern Green Capped Booby.
lol
That's an NPS maintenance uniform, so that's probably not a biologist. Besides that most NPS biologists aren't uniformed.
I thought it was Bambi’s very distantly cousin
This is amazing, I loved seeing all the different animals crossing. The camera positioning is great and I really enjoyed watching the seasons change. Thanks for bring us this amazing video!
:)
I could watch this for hours.
I could watch this four hours.
:)
This is the coolest thing I've seen in, like, forever.
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
I agree. Much better than watching cities burn
:)
@Gappie Al Kebabi Wow, you're so cool and witty.
It is so cool watching the vegetation regenerate over the summer months.
So relaxing to watch! Love how the beaver is always working and checking on things lol
Grew up in Bloomington Mn during the early 80's and there was a huge track of swamp, marsh created by beaver ponds over the course of 30ish years the ponds became permanent. It was my playground during adolescence. 5 star video.
Mel D, lol, small world. Nope, Where 9 mile creek flows into Bloomington from Edina. There were a series of beaver dams that over time formed a couple of permanent ponds in the footage and one that was huge but disappeared when one dam was destroyed by the DNR. This was in the late 70's before Lake Normandale was created. By the early 90s the creek had been partially rerouted to build the current SS Building. There's still 25 lbs Northerns in there. Be well!
Beautiful cinnamon colored bear!
A wonderful escape from the news of the day. I may have to watch this a bunch more times! Thank you for posting. 🦫🐺
I went to the International Wolf Center in Ely,Minnesota and being from Connecticut I was so impressed to see wolfs and how gracious and big they were. A beautiful place to visit. Thanks for those that work and have worked there !!! Keep up the good work !!,
This is sheer magic! For anyone who's spent time in the north woods (for me the Boundary Waters) this brings such memories to mind. Thank you for your Project and for making and sharing this video. I will share it widely.
Absolutely! Our sincere pleasure!
I enjoyed the moment when the North American bearded wolf appeared AKA: Biologists Backpackus Bipedus
this is one of the most beautiful videos I've ever seen, it makes this boy from England want to move to Minnesota more and more
:)
Yeah it is a fantastic state, I’m so lucky to live here. You see, a long time ago when settlers first came to the US, they pushed the predators and big animals up north, well everywhere except in Minnesota. Minnesota’s northern wilderness is vastly untouched, and we passed conservation laws really early on, so we still have a lot of fantastic wildlife in the upper half of the state, and with modern techniques, the animals are spreading further and further south!

So why don’t you then? That is, if you haven’t done so already...
Joshua Brook, have you moved to Minnesota since your comment about moving from England to Minnesota?
Wouldn't it be nice if we could leave more of nature as is. Beautiful!
Beaver be like "wish people would stop cutting through my backyard!"..
That part of the pond looks similar to the one 300 feet behind my house in Vermont. Seven beavers live there now and have seen almost every animal at my pond as seen in this video. I love living here with all the different neighbors.
*Hello from Siberia. Many thanks to the author for an interesting video. I live in Siberia and everything I know. Привет из Сибири. спасибо автору за интересное видео. Я живу в Сибири и мне всё это знакомо*

This is our planet. Beautiful and vivid.
I love this sooo much, thank you. been in cali for almost 40 years and gosh I miss minnesota sometimes. thank you!
The wolves always look at the camera as if saying, yeah I know you're watching.
They do. I swear they have it figured out. Love the wolves.
Wonderful! I could watch this all day!! Thanks for posting :) (from New Zealand, where we do not have any of the wonderful levels of wildlife that you do...)
Great place for a trail cam. It’s neet to see at the beginning all the animals were zipping through there . Then when all the plants were in full bloom they had a tougher time getting through there. Lots of different animals going through there. 👍
I really enjoyed this video! It gives me great joy and peace to see animals and nature be wild and free, without the disruption of humans. Gob bless & Thank you 😊🙏🏼🌈💚
Glad you enjoyed it!
If they ever domesticate the one at 0:26, I'd consider adopting one. LOL! Very cool video!!! Thanks for sharing!
We loved this video! Thanks for capturing it - I'm sure it was a lot of work.

There's a bear bum at the 2.51 mark ! Lol. Loved the minks playing in the snow at 4.37
Is that not an otter?
@@scotslassie6991 Yeah, I think those are otters.
I think they're pine martens. I could be wrong.
Thank you for documenting this Northwoods Magic..

What a treat! Lovely vid. Am always amazed at how to glossy the black bears' coats are.
So beautiful!
Thank you for sharing ✨❤️
It is amazing how unaffected these creatures are when we leave them alone, and even the pandemic had little to no impact on them.
Very good. So cool to sorta focus on the one log. 👍
