Great video! I have a ‘17 A4 and went with black mirror caps from the same site but possibly a different seller. Fit and look great. Only surprise was how nasty it was under the mirror cap with all the dead bugs. Gloves were probably a good call lol
I’ve done a similar swap before from aliexpress and I noticed the fitment Quality and clearances are terrible compared to OEM. The new caps have larger gaps between the mirror and the housing and don’t sit flush
FYI you can skip to the process of prying off the mirror cap. The T10 screws doesn't hold the cap in place, I think Audi was doing cost savings and removed the screws that screw into the mirror cap. This should make the process much faster.
Ok- I was wondering about this from a comment on another video I saw. Yeah it doesn't look like those screws actually screw into anything, but I thought maybe it just loosened up that front frame and was making it easier or something. Can you really just skip the mirror removal and get a pry tool in there even without loosening stuff up? Cuz seeing how much force people are putting on these mirrors in different videos is giving me a heart attack lol
So I just did this on my S5 and I can confirm you don't have to do any of that stuff, just pry it off. Started on the outside corner like he did in the video and just worked my way in on both edges. It was really hard at first and I thought I was gonna snap something or crack the plastic on the turn indicator so I was being extra careful, but then I grabbed a slightly beefier trim tool and it was way easier. Thank you for the heads up, was so worried about cracking that glass!
Awesome, thanks for confirming! This will make the install process 100 times easier haha. Did you also go for the carbon look or the aluminum style covers?
@@DIYDetail I went with the gloss black actually. I got quantum gray and really liked the look with black optics pkg but I couldn't find one in my area so I've just been blacking out the trim myself. Got em from a guy that installed cf ones on his rs5 right away so, almost new condition :)
Can someone explain to me why we have to take apart the whole mirror? Why can’t we just take out the housing and replace that? I’ve seen someone do that. Also my car doesn’t have the blind spot thingy in the mirror
Yeah I noticed after I took the mirror out, you don't really need too. I was just following a guide at the time (lack of other videos) that said you had to remove it. A few people commented here that you can do this without removing the mirror.
Just replaced them and I have a bit of a problem, the passenger mirror glass panel isn’t moving well, should I replace the motor? Also the tilt down reverse features isn’t working… any tips! ?
Was it like that before you changed the caps? It might just not be seated correctly (especially if the reverse feature isn’t working). Sorry for the delay!
@@DIYDetail it was functioning properly before, now it struggles to go up and the tilt down feature isn’t working even with programming. I hear clicking when it tries to go up. Maybe I pushed on it too hard.
If it’s clicking, that means it’s reached it’s max height. I wound carefully try to remove the mirror, check all the clips and gently push the mirror back in with constant pressure across the mirror (as in not pushing too hard in one area)
Yes, it’s not real carbon fiber - it’s hydro-dipped in carbon fiber. For me it still has the look of carbon fiber without the massive price tag associated with the real one
This was a perfect match for me changing out my mirror cap on 2019 Audi A5 -- thanks to this video I did the actual work in 15 minutes - thanks!
Just did my ‘18 A4 and it went smoothly, and according to the great video, thanks!

Haha yeah, it was nasty on the inside on the passenger side for me too!
Thank you. This tutorial made it very easy for me to replace the mirror caps on my 2017 S5!
Glad it helped!!!
FYI you can just leave your keys in the car and it won't lock the car door and fold the mirrors. I do that when I wash my car.
Ah that’s good to know! I just always played it safe and kept the keys with me
Hey i got a SQ7 2021 and was wondering if it works for me ?
I’ve done a similar swap before from aliexpress and I noticed the fitment
Quality and clearances are terrible compared to OEM. The new caps have larger gaps between the mirror and the housing and don’t sit flush
True and the sensor is stuck in there for good I bought oem rs4 now but can’t get out the sensors … Don’t get kibowear
Great video!!! Made the job much easier
Thanx, awesome tutorial
What the the screws?
Nicely done, thanks
How have the mirror caps held up over time?
Thanks for the instructions Boss..
Thanks a lot mate!
thank you that was very helpful.
Looks like such a faff for wing mirror caps. I might just take mine down to the garage!
You could have also put the sequential signals in the mirrors

That’s good to know! I thought the screws were kinda useless when I was putting them back in. German Engineering! Gotta love it at times haha

@@DIYDetail Yup I just took the housing off and snapped the new one right on. Didn’t have to take apart the whole mirror. Great video nonetheless!
Appreciate the kind words and glad it helped!
What screw size
Does this method work on a 2018 sq5?
I’m not too sure how the mirrors are on the SQ5 but I assume it should be similar with minor tweaks?
looks great
Thank you!

How was the fitment?
Hey! It’s near perfect, no gaps or looseness at all with the covers. Looks pretty much OEM in my opinion
@@DIYDetail when you say near perfect...what is not perfect about it?
Wow, Audi charges $800 for these, and I'm really interested in getting a set! I like the $30 option!!! Where did you order these from???
Dealerships overcharge for everything! I ordered these from Aliexpress - there’s a link directly to the product in the description!
Not easy at all literally impossible to get the mirror cap clips off after taking out screws
how long did it take for you to receive the order?
It took about 30 days (including the holidays)!
Are these mirrors just imitation carbon fibre mirrors that are made of plastic? They do look awesome.
Yup! They are hydro dipped so not real carbon fiber but so far they’ve been holding up well. No fading
Instructions unclear I now have a bmw…
I hate doing this kind of stuff in the cold.
Haha agreed, just wish I had a garage
Welp my motor went out. Nice 😂
I don't think that is carbon fiber, it looks more like it's carbon fiber print on it. You can also see inside the mirror cover, it's plastic
Any major problems you've had so far ?
So far nothing! Hopefully it stays like that haha
$30 definetly not carbon fiber for that price
Yes, it’s not real carbon fiber - it’s hydro-dipped in carbon fiber. For me it still has the look of carbon fiber without the massive price tag associated with the real one
