My grandfather’s Italian (nothing to do with the mafia) and he absolutely detests lateness. His mentality (and mine) is that if you’re late for something you’re saying to the other person that your time is more important than theirs, and that is a huge disrespect.

It always annoys me when I hear omertà explained as a vow of silence. As my dad told me, in Sicily, omertà goes far beyond a vow of silence. It's actually an absolute repulsion for the entire system of government and the law. Thanks Signore Franzese for setting the record straight.
That's what i've always heard. I'm not in that life at all but i've heard it means you don't cooperate with government or police or anything on any level. If you have a problem with someone you go to them or a neighborhood authority figure and work it out amongst each-other.
@@guthax30 Keep in mind when the Mafia formed their was no true law in Sicily. It was a feudal society with their own law. When the Rich law owners were overthrown the people who were hired to protect the large estates needed new form of income. That's when they organize themselves into the Mafia. Codes and rules were created in that effort. The rest is history. Its wasn't because they hate the law its was because they wanted to be the law and didn't want anyone to interfere with their business.

Actually the biblical translation is “ thou shall not commit murder” and this is where the semantics allow for capital punishment ...and the existence of killing those deserving of being killed for whatever transgression against the organization.

Michael would not be able to talk about the mafia in Italy, at his time the American mafia was no longer as close to the Italian mafia as it was until the 60s and early 70s when the mafia in the USA was Italian and not "Italian American"

I know your post (or comment) was like two years ago. I TRULY hope you’re doing well, because I’ve dealt with the same issues as well. It’s only been a few months since I’ve found Michael’s videos, but I agree, with all his wrong he has really become somewhat of a moral compass! Though it wouldn’t matter because we’d both be dead if we were in the mafia! lol!!
My great grandfather was in the Italian mafia either in Pennsylvania where they lived or was part of a family in New York. When he died in 1956 my great grandmother moved here to Florida. During all the years I've known her she never talked about the 'family'. She died never revealing the life they had with the 'family'.

Totally agree. Im from small town america, my mom was even in a convent to be a nun at one time. These were things she taught me. These younger kids have no idea about real honor or old ways of doing something. I am worst liar and anyone can see through me so just in case something happened with cops or anything else i have purposely made it where i dont pay attention to names or what people wearing. I really like the fact that you point out that the mob life is not the kind of life a person should lead. There are much better things in life.
The first time ive ever heard of you was 13 years ago on a DVD called the 10 Commandments of the mob.
I was 14 -15 and remember real bad wanting to be like you guys and like my father who went through similar experiences just not as deep.

Your story is so inspirational, and the way you turned your life around especially. I had to flee my hometown of Qamishli, Syria back in 2016 and am currently working and living in Würzburg, Germany. I am a Christian too so your faith journey is very touching as well, and really helps show how no one is truly "too late" to turn their lives around. Hope all stays well with your daughter 🙏
