Channing was incredibly real here. You rarely hear interviews like this..
He ABSOLUTELY ROASTED coach Brown. I have never seen a player go in on a coach like this.
He simply Violated coach Brown. lmao ahhh man
Facts!!!
@@knickbockerz7536 😄😄😄
@@CDiesel720 peep Jalen Rose's comments on Larry Brown. He had nothing nice to say as well.
He the reason why we got bronze in 2004 Olympics
I always say this and ppl always mention he won the chip with Detroit…I’m like bruh he coached 50 years. He completely ruined that Olympic team
Wrong the best players didn’t show up that’s why we lost
@@jamesball5743 you mean like tim Duncan, allen iverson, stephon marbury etc.... cause melo, bron, wade didn't get no real play time despite having successful rookie seasons larry didn't care about their talent level cause in his mind you aren't good enough as a rookie like all rookies are the same level of players some rookies aren't ready but some are
Channing Frye has been waiting his whole life for this moment 😂
Larry brown said the roster was trash in a interview.
That Knicks team had Marbury, Crawford, Jalen rose, Channing, Steve Francis, Nate Robinson, Trevor Ariza. All these years later he still can’t admit it’s his fault
Because he’s from the shut up & dribble era
Marbury and Steve Francis were both trash. Besides, we didn’t get Steve Francis until the 2006-07 season, when Isiah had full control.
Brown was a defensive coach and none of those players fit the mold. Steve Francis was already washed up like so many other knicks players acquired during that era. The FO didn't get the players Brown wanted so it just didn't work out.
Francis played 24 games with the Knicks during 05-06.
It’s incredible at that time, Larry Brown recently took the Pistons to back to back NBA finals (winning 1 title) before he coached the Knicks.
Indeed!
@@KnicksFanTV good point
Given Brown's overall coaching record and based on Channing's comments, I wonder whether Brown was losing it mentally by the time he got to the knicks.
I wonder the same bro!
@KnicksFanTV, THANK YOU for this interview with Channing Frye and just posting this snippet.I was telling people for year Larry Brown was sabotaging that team.
Best part of the interview. Had NO idea it was that bad. Sounds like sabotage to me.
Crazy bro!
Larry Brown was trying to get Isiah fired so that he could become the GM. It very much was a sabotage.
Don’t forget Larry doesn’t play rookies As a Knicks fan it was a horrible season we been thru it all herb Williams, Isaiah, Larry , Lenny Wilkins
been through the storrm!
He destroyed what could have been a really good team smh. I thought Larry brown was a Victim I see he was the problem.
Both Larry and Isiah Thomas were the reasons the Knicks became a laughingstock of professional basketball during those years.
I really thought that too. He won other places so it must not be his fault right? I guess not. I've heard a few stories about how bad he was.
At that time Brown was trying to get fired he was at the end of his coaching years plus that contract was fully guaranteed.
Great stuff as always. I'd love if you could get Marbury on to talk about Larry Brown or just his time in NYK (excluding the Isiah Thomas drama for obvious reasons)
Chauncey said he was a dark cloud too. Chauncey said to him after the Game 2 finals loss to LA, "not tonight LB. We aren't the Sixers. AI didn't have anybody on that team."
This was actually pretty surprising to hear. Sounded like a horrible coach. Very unfortunate.
Channing would make an amazing assistant coach, especially with a coach like Thibs.
Larry Brown as great as coach he is; he is very stubborn coach. He was best suited for a veteran team like the Pistons. He didn’t adjust for today’s game.
As Reggie Miller said, Larry Brown was crazy! Lol
1:25 “we’re goin with Jerome tonight” 😂
lollll
Wow. Thought he had potential but hearing this is big
Sounds like he was trying to get fired so he could keep the bag
WoW.....Just Wow.....
Hearing Channing Frye say all this and the only thing I can think of is dayumm Isiah Thomas was forced to hire Larry Brown by Dolan. I remember back then Isiah wanted to hire Bill Laimbeer for the Knicks coaching job. I cant recall which news paper NY Post or NY Dailynews but the article reported how Mike Lupica talked Dolan into hiring Larry Brown.
In browns defense he couldn’t bring in any of his guys...from players to assistants...Dolan’s lack of structure was the true cause of all this
@@kgthoughts the Knicks were basically a go-nowhere team not just because of the coaching situation. Isiah Thomas also was responsible for some of the stupid trades, drafts, and signings à la Jerome James, Jared Jeffries, Eddy Curry, Renaldo Balkman over Rajon Rondo, bringing in an injury prone and washed up Steve Francis, etc.
Growing I thought it was normal for a player to start against teams in their hometown...or on their birthday. Larry had Knicks fans messed up too
Oh yall lit littttt
Damn Larry Brown messed up Channing bro was really a promising star as a rookie smh that’s crazy
We’ll probably have an interview like this with Obi telling all about Thibs in 10 years
Word. I never thought about that.
When you messing around In nba2k my league 😂
Ironically, we have a similar problem today
Dam I didn't know LB was that horrible of a coach for the Knicks. I wonder how he got the Pistons to win the chip. I would like to hear what Chauncey Billups or Rasheed Wallace have to say about Larry Brown.
It wanted to get fired
What if he was instructed to tank that year in order to get a better lottery spot? Seems plausible to me.
I respect Frye
Larry Brown is a Hall of Famer. What’s a Channing Frye?
@@jamesball5743 True, but a lot of players have spoken out on Larry Brown...
It's crazy... Some of this, if I didn't hear him say Coach Brown's name, I would've thought he was talking about Thibs....SMH 🤦🏽♂️
That's the culture of the Knicks for decades ...I use to sit courtside for decades ..and it never came together ..I have no faith or confidence in the Knicks never.
I honestly think this was Larry Brown’s way of indirectly telling Channing he needed to focus more on defense and rebounding. In all fairness for a man Channing size, he was a weak rebounder and not a good rim protector.
I gotta defend Larry Brown here. In his defense everywhere he went the team made the playoffs. He even took the sorry Charlotte Bobcats to the playoffs.
He was good with Pacers probly more of a fit situation
@@johnross5087 He was good with the pre Duncan Spurs as well. Made the Clippers look respectable back when they were the laughingstock of the league. Finals with Philly championship in Detroit so his resume speaks for itself.
@@twocents6951 yeah thas true I forgot them you right
Just looking at the roster it was a terrible fit from the jump...Something tells me he had some mutual agreements when took the job with Dolan and none of those demand got met so Brown just said screw it and coasted through the season
@@kgthoughts he works well with hardworking and professional players. He's Detroit and Indiana teams are similarly built. Even his Sixers team.
I always thought Larry Brown was over rated. I never like him coaching A.I. in Philly. Iverson needed to be surrounded with shooters and Philly did the opposite based on Brown's vision for the team.
Lenny Wilkens saw what was going on and said to himself “lemme gtfoh”
Damn
Wow..that was funny
Brown tanked to get TF outta' there. Man, Frye averaged 12 in 24mpg as a rookie on like 47% from the field. Damn good rookie campaign. Too bad he got drafted into such a toxic situation.
God, these were such dark days 😖😆... but now, in hindsight, I cant help but wonder if Larry AND Phil Jackson later on were intentionally trying to get fired, just to get easy money
To be fair, the Knicks' roster at the time wasn't loaded. For one, they didn't have any true leadership on the team. Larry didn't have a Chauncey Billups, like he had in Detroit. The Pistons team can actually run themselves. Number 2, they didn't have super talented players like A.I. For ya'll comparing Marbury to A.I., I'll just end the conversation right here because you are all truely trippin.😂
who compared AI to Steph? And to think Stephon Marbury was a scrub is crazy. Knicks had talent, they just didn't want to work. That's where the Coach comes in to play. But as Channing says, it was a complete ish show
Isiah Thomas didn’t hire Larry Brown, nor did James Dolan nor Steve Mills. It was Patrick Ewing who advised it. If Larry Brown had Patrick Ewing in the front office, instead of Isiah, then perhaps Larry would’ve been a much better coach with us.
I have heard a lot of Larry Brown stories since i was a kid from former players and none of them have been good.
Never liked Brown as a coach. He was terrible in Indiana. Surprised he won with Detroit.
the most puzzling tenure in Knicks history for a Coach.
Remember a few years ago when Nate Robinson said Larry Brown called Nate "the little $h*t" ? I hate Larry Brown with a passion. Larry and also George Karl. Most of those guys grew up around a time when team sports were ran like boot camp (literally). Because these coaches were in the military.
if larry brown is such a bad coach. How come iverson and reggie miller and other players dont have anything bad to say about him. Its only players on this knicks team. Even the pisonts players ben wallace, rasheed, chauncy, tayshawn etc nothing bad. Hell, not even stephen jackson when he was on the bobcats say anything bad about him.
strange that both he and Karl come from one of the most sincere and authentic coaches to ever coach the game.
How stupid was this title? Dude played in NY for like three years.
I remember being excited about Brown. Then it was a mess.
a complete mess!
I thought it then and I still think it now: Larry Brown was trying to get fired so he could collect his money while doing phuq all at home.
Yeah the coach partial6to blame but what does it say about the players that they couldn't establish themselves as starters.
Like calling Trevor Ariza delusional. And he’s still in the league
Well he won with the Pistons.
Channing averaged his 2nd most on that team ironically
Stole money from the knicks
It was Isiah Thomas's idea to let that happen.
This is hard to believe.....
I seriously.... SERIOUSLY!!!!!......wonder: did Larry Brown have a progression of Alzheimer's or some sort of gradual mental breakdown??? The stuff I have been seeing about him does not add up for a sane human being. I am not trying to speak bad about him, I'm serious.
He was a POS coach for the Knicks.
Horrible coach smh
Knicks are run so poorly by Dolan
Now knowing Larry Browns coaching g style, if you showed him this interview with Channing Frey saying all this shit, his response would be. “I needed him to toughen up, rebound better and play better defense. All that offense will come on it’s own, I need to see the effort on the defensive end.” And the man may have a point... I remember thinking, if only Eddy Curry and Channing Frye could play with the heart, effort and intensity as Malik Rose, we’d be a better team. LB was also being micromanaged and flat out undermined by management. He had Isaiah Thomas pushing him to play certain players more minutes and he forced Larry Brown to inherit all of the assistant coaches who were all handpicked by Isaiah Thomas. Guys like Mark Aguirre and Brendan Suhr, those guys were Isaiah‘s boys from his days back in Detroit, and were going back and telling Isaiah everything. I always thought Larry Brown wasn’t given a fair shake in New York. He is a good coach but let’s face it, that roster stunk. The conditions he was forced to coach a crappy team under were terrible.
Brown demanded effort and professionalism. Look at his Detroit and Indiana teams. Even the sixers, Snow, Dekembe, Mckie, all of them are blue collar type of players.
Yeah, the whole situation with the Knicks was terrible. For one, Larry does eventually wear on guys....That's why he bounced around so much in his career. I'm a Sixers fan, and he was GREAT for us, but, he and AI eventually got sick of one another and he had to move on. But, this situation was bad from the jump. He had a miserable roster with weird pieces like what was left of Steve Francis, and Penny Hardaway, and then TONS of young players that had talent, but weren't ready to win yet. And also, what you said is dead on about him not being able to hire his own staff. So yeah, that was a doomed scenario from the beginning. Larry wasn't a fit for that team, but NO ONE would have been with the Knicks during those days. That's why they went through coaches like people change their drawers
That team was absolutely a playoff squad on paper. Brown looked at the Knicks job as a lick, and an easy payday and had no real interest in coaching us in earnest
Larry Brown was horrible. You can't be a successful coach and be so low on EQ
unbelievable how his tenure was so bad.
Larry Brown was always a clown‼️
Im not watching another knick game until Dolan sells or i see someone i rock with running things
Channing was a nobody. Larry has done so much with average and crap teams. Let's assume Channing is telling the truth, that was at the end of Larry's career. The team wasn't good, so a coach will try everything. Now let's assume he's not telling the truth. He would be every other guy on a podcast praying for attention. That's more realistic to me. Having a scrub trash a HOF coach is questionable at best.
how can he be a scrub when he played in the nba? I guarantee you never played any sport in your life!
@@thevizkid - Always the lowest IQ points being made. 99% of the planet never played in the pros, yet here we are commenting on them. I bet you never coached in the pros. so how can you trust him over Larry the coach? See how that works?! Too easy. Next.
Larry brown was the worst. Allen Iverson couldn't stand him.
We talkin bout *practice*
He said he heard LB voice in his sleep
Isiah Thomas was even worse. He was both the coach and the GM of the team and he really did one hell of a job sabotaging the entire franchise.
