    It's very possible for a gelgoog or two to show up at Solomon since you said it yourself, ace pilots were given one for testing and gato has been one for some time, better than most if he's one of the few to get a high mobility zaku in his custom colors, and before they became gelgoogs they were previously the Zaku high mobility R3 also known as proto gelgoogs.

    I would just like to point out that while you do have a point in that Major battles like Solomon have so much shit going on it's weird that a "kinda good" pilot stood out so much to people. But the thing about major battles is, so many people are involved that everyone has stories to tell and if a pretty good sized detachment of soldiers get killed to nearly a man and the survivors say it was by 1 pilot, it's one of those things that tends to become myth as time goes on.

      A few factors.
      At Torrington: Gato's objective wasn't to kill Kou, it was just to escape with Unit 2 mostly intact for Operation Stardust.
      At Solomon: Unit 2's left arm was disabled, and Gato had limited weaponry, with only beam sabers and head vulcans.
      At the colony drop: Gato actually WON that fight, but Bask firing the Solar Flare System 2 interrupted Gato, stopping him from finishing Uraki off.
      Short answer: plot armor.

    5 kills is actually a huge deal in a real war and why it was the historical standard for being named an ace fighter pilot. video game logic where both you and your enemies endlessly respawn kind of breaks peoples' brains, but basically if every one of your pilots kills 1 enemy pilot without dying, you've won the war. on the flip side you only jave one life to lose. so an ace who kills five of the enemy is doing the work of five pilots

  • @johnsouto5221
    @johnsouto5221 2 года назад +5

    Gato is one who got his title by happenstance, and not by being a “ace” pilot, and here’s why . Fact1 even before the Battle of Solomon, he was a security officer first, and wasn’t trained until later, you didn’t here that he was at Battle of Loum, because he wasn’t there. Fact 2. He piloted a Rick Dom, with only a few modifications and that paint job, was because he part of the security team that protected Dozle Zabi and his family, special people get some rewards for it. Fact 3 Gato used the Beam Bazooka, so his kills were easier than had he used a standard bazooka or anti-shipping rifle. His Dom’s paint job stood out like a pimple on a pumpkin which is why he stood out. Fact 4 Gato beating Gundam, would be impossible, because Gundam was faster,better armored and better armed, Armuo Ray has more combat experience in a mobile suit, on earth and in space, and not even taking in his NewType skills, Fact 5 If Armuo.could defeat Ramba Ral ,The Black Tri-Stars, a number of other Zeon threats from mobile suits on mass, warships and mobile armors, and wipe out eight of twelve Rick Dom’s at the action at Side Six single handed, and fight The Red Comet to a draw, Do you really, Really believe that Gato could do what they can’t?? Gato might be Zeon's propaganda to keep the morale of the remnants leveled. Then the EFFs accepted such as an anti-newtype propaganda since even Amuro by the point after the one year war is being kept under surveilance with his achievement left vague for the most part. Gato, wether a newtype or not, as a Zeon will be hated then by the federation and his inclusion with the military text books means that the EFF is more or less aware of Zeon's trump cards. Then it's only a matter of time before Titans took over.

  • @taliawtf6944
    @taliawtf6944 2 года назад +1

    Another thing to keep in mind is that the Federation made a lot of what Amuro did top secret even scrubbing a lot of info on him out of the official records. That's why he was partly under house arrest in Double ZZ as the Federation actually worried about Newtypes being a bit of a double edge sword. Naturally this too is subject for debate, I could see it being true just by virtue of Amuro piloting a lot of prototype units and the White Base was a decoy as during the war as well so there is merit there for him knowing too much to just let wander freely. Still most of what is known commonly about Amuro is from returning soldiers rather than official documents. That said I don't like the way they had Gato set up... They should have made it that he was both a good pilot but a tactical genius using both his skill in his MS as well as some soft of tactics the Federation had not been the target of making the situation wildly confusing as well as deadly for them thus earning the name with no sticky issues of kill count.

  • @MrRed88
    @MrRed88 2 года назад +2

    I think you're seriously underselling Gato's kill streak at Solomon. Yes a lot happened that was noteworthy at Solomon and arguably more so than Gato's rampage but the same can be said for Char and his impressive kill streak at Loum which you even compared Gato's feats too. By your logic, what's so special about what Char did at Loum? Loum was noteworthy for the mass use of nuclear weapons, the complete destruction of side 5 as well as the death of millions of civilians, it was the first battle that showcased the full potential of mobile suits and how deadly they were, the borderline complete destruction of the federation fleet, and the capture of General Revil, one of the highest ranking and most important officers of the federation's military. So what's the big deal about this one Zaku pilot who destroyed a couple of ships?
    Also, even if we take scaling into account, I think Gato's feats at Solomon still rival if not surpass Char at Loum. A Rick Dom isn't all that insanely superior to a Zaku 2, let alone the commander type that Char had. Secondly, most of the time when you see footage of them achieving their infamous kill streaks, Char is shown with wingmen while Gato is mostly if not always shown alone. There's also what they were fighting against. Char was primarily destroying ships that could barely come even close to hitting him while Gato not only had to contend with ships but other mobile suits as well.
    Again, I really think you're underselling Gato's rampage at Solomon, and I don't understand the confusion for his legacy and how it doesn't add up. It makes perfect sense.

    IMO, at least, the only time there's really a risk of harming the franchises integrity is when out of nowhere they're like "we now turn our eyes to a previously unseen conflict, one which played out on the extreme outer edges of the One Year War, a time when two psychic two year olds in SSJ3 Gundams became embroiled in a bitter conflict over the fate of every last mutant robot enslaved on Neptune."

    You make a really bad comparison when you try to diminish the original manga and PS2 Gundam EiS Ace Pilot Mission story feats...
    Even if we look at the fact that Anavel Gato had a custom MS-09RS with an uncommonly manufactured beam bazooka (which by the way does not mean that just any pilot could handle a beam bazooka or a bazooka itself since the near action simulator Gundam games like Zeonic front and the legendary PS3 Gundam Crossfire do depict how difficult it can be to learn how to use a bazooka properly... since your aiming has to be much more careful.)
    Killing the Federation RGM-79GM is not all too easy as you may believe as even mediocre pilots can be fortunate to use the full size shield to deflect some direct hits until the shield breaks... therefore killing 20 GMs and two space Cruisers even if they are Salamis class is not an easy feat to accomplish and to the Feddies there may be other factors like how quickly this happened... in which case Anavel Gato did some speedy maneuvers and some direct shots and the Feddies know that the Salamis is loaded with beam cannons and gun turrets... something that not all games have properly depicted and...
    It's kinda unfair to make a direct comparison to Amuro Ray (a non army person and underage kid) piloting a top secret Feddie prototype RX-78-2 Gundam which was originally designed for research and development NOT for actual war use...
    As such the RX-78-2 has special armor Lunar Titanium Alloy and hyper Bazooka, and beam fifle which were capable of making short work of a Zeon space Cruiser... let alone a Mobile Suit...
    There are also other differences since Anavel Gato's ace status is actually established much earlier when he eventually received a high mobility Zaku II which was referenced in some books when his ace moniker was initially "Valfish" or something and it's the Earth Federation who call him a nightmare... which btw is another way of singling out particularly talented enemy pilots so that when GM squads are deployed in massive numbers these guys are on the lookout for the aces and will basically barrage fire in their direction...
    for the sake of the videogames at that time in the early 2000s it was a new thing to feature Zeon ace pilot stories where usually the story was about the Earth Federation and Amuro Ray even in Japan...
    And it was a massive task to include those stories and missions as part of a single game especially when the Sony PlayStation 2 managed to establish a very healthy install base early after launch... iirc it took a year or less than two years to reach 10 million PS2s sold.
    Had this happened to the Sony PlayStation 3, we might have seen a bigger push for near action simulator Gundam games like Gundam Crossfire which unfortunately was rushed for launch and the Western gamer journalists were unfairly targeting the game for crucifixion.
    Still a revision to the story is plausible because the beam bazooka, if used accurately can do massive kill counts against Feddie Space Cruiser numbers... a far easier feat compared to Char Aznable in a custom MS-06S model which was prioritized for him since they were tracking his potential early on and sinking five Feddie space Cruisers was not easy either but additional information like he did it in a short time in a single sortie while evading Saberfish space fighters... is not the same as evading of fighting off basic GMs with that big shield that can potentially absorb some big direct hits and give you problems.
    Even when Anavel Gato gets his MS-14A Gelgoog the odds are stacked because the Feddie space Cruisers and MS still massively outnumbered the remaining Zeon forces..
    Also Anavel Gato served under Gihren's and Dozle's branches where Gihren's A Baoa Qu fortress was the last line of defense and Solomon Base was a front line defense base...
    It is murky but it is plausible that YMS-14, MS-14A and MS-14S (which are almost all the same level and only need further tuning to the pilots to fix some bugs in a rushed model which is shown) were capable of being at the fortress of Solomon... the problem is that there was an early attempt to depict the Johnny Ridden MS-14B at the battle of Solomon which was revised since Johnny Ridden actually should have been at Granada Base and only sent towards Solomon when Kycilia Zabi offered to send forces where iirc in the third film they did not know where the Feddies were gonna attack first... however given that Luna is also a civilian sector, the military base of Solomon made more sense especially to flex the Solar System weapon.
