Hi all, here are my new VR settings for MSFS2020. Please watch till the end so you don't miss the important steps. I hope these settings will work for you too. Cheers Mike
I found the OpenXR Toolkit works better in clarifying image rather than using the Tweaks. When using both Tweaks and OpenXR toolkit image quality deteriorated significantly. Latest nVidia drivers and DLSS Swapper to 3.6, using the default settings in nVidia Panel (antialiasing set to 16x) + OpenXR Toolkit gives best result. But like to use AutoFPS when flying in dense scenery areas to maintain about 30FPS. My system i13k + 3090 + G2.
@mikemace7774 What do you have for your settings in the VR Toolkit?
@@CaribbeanSimPilot Using CAS sharpening @90%. Frame rate throttling 60. Foveated rendering on PRESET. Override resolution 4360x4272. Target Frame Rate 30.
@@mikemace7774 Thanks for this! I see you’re in the islandsimpilot group. Fun group of people.
Ooh gonna have to try this later. Also I read your specs as “i3 + 3090” lol
I stopped using VR when i realised i could get a solid 60fps with no stutters with Lossless scaling frame gen lol its all i use now because i fly helicopters and 60fps is amazing for stunt flying and crazy spot landings in my Huey 😂 i dont think i would trade it for 25-32fps in VR ... lower than 50 in a headset makes me feel horrible 😫 lol i hate it... although 3D is obviously better!! My headset just sits with a tshirt covering to prevent it getting dusty while i totally dont use it anymore haha
How you do that the VR on Monitor? When i Start the VR in the FS 2020 i become the left and the right side on the Monitor. I need that view who you have. I have the same Reverb
I use a vr mirror plugin for OBS. It records the right eye and I crop it to get a 16:9 ratio
Nice video. Just found out about the DLSS swapper tool to.
It does magic for my system. (Asus ROG ryzen 9 5000 with RTX3080)
Also still on a Reverb G2 and planning on purchasing a Quest3.
In combination with the smoothflight tool (managing fps/LOD) i get a very nice expiriance.
WHİCH One is better G2 or Quest3?
Thanks again! You are the go to channel for msfs settings!!!! 😁😁👍👍
Thanks Captain, I share what works for me and hopefully works for the community too 🙏😁
could yo please do a holy grail For VR with the new DLSS 3.7 ?
Great video. Thanks. Can you say a little more about "downscale/upscale" and cockpit sharpness - I've not heard that discussed but I can understand the problem. Where do you set that?
With dlaa you don’t downscale because it’s a 100% scale. You can use dlss performance (50% downscale) and upscale in the openxr toolkit to 3000 x …. This wil also increase fps and sharpness.
Thank you so much for your video. You changed my flying experience. Version 3.7 dlss is out. Have you tried it?😊
Excellent video. I did all your instructions and the results was spectacular !😊 I’m using a Pimax Crystal for VR with OpenXR (PimaxVR). Right now, all those settings are OFF. Is there any settings I should use for OpenXR ?
Nice and practical as always. Thanks for your wise advises. Tank you
So nice of you
I have now the best picture ever had in VR with DLAA thanks great!!
Wow, thanks!
Hi! I have an i9 12900, 64 gb Ram, a rtx 4090 and I recently bought the Pimax Crystal. I have been watching videos for several days on which is the best setting. The truth is that with almost everything in ultra I can't get above 35 fps with the fenix a320, and with GA I do get about 45 fps. I have tried with dlss 3.7 in DLAA, with TAA, in OpenXR I have set the resolution to 2800.
I don't know if I have to go down to High or medium in MSFS, but with the computer I have I think I should have no problem to get 45 fps stable without lowering much the visual quality.
Any idea what I can be doing wrong?
It’ s better DX12 for VR?Thank you very much
Hi, i’m not sure what you want. More fps or better visual quality? I always try to get the smoothest VR as possible and adjust graphic settings to get the best image quality without loosing to much fps. It’s a balance between image resolution and graphic settings. When you choose to upscale to less then 2800, you will gain some fps, which you can use to set some graphic settings to high or ultra.
Personally I always use DX11, but I need that for recording and other software
Thank you, this was an great tutorial! With ultra quality for DLSS i had 45fps and minor stutters in airports, with DLAA got 31fps but no stutters. I9-9900k rtx3090 Vive Pro.
Thank you. I also prefer a smooth stutter free sim with 30fps.
I don´t use dlss swapper, i do manually, works the same?
Hi! Thanks for the vid! But I downloaded the swapper and there is no MFS in the games... Just nothing... How can I make the sim appear in the list?
Hi, please read this answer from the dev. github.com/beeradmoore/dlss-swapper/issues/140
I have customized nvidia inspector GLOBAL profile to use DLSS at Ultra. Do I need to restore default in the Inspector and use this tool?
No need to.
1 tweak in your pc settings you need the texture resolution the same as vr otherwise whatever you set in pc will be what you see in vr because this setting requires a restart.
Ok thanks for the correction. I’ll change it later today. 👍🏽
This is great, but im runing a rtx 2080TI. I dont think this would work out for me.
What graphics card are you using?@Virtusim
@maydaygoingdown5602 I have a 3080. It should work on your 2060. Only frame gen is for 40 series.
The mirror image on the monitor, when using VR has no impact on performance. It doesn't matter if you have if you have the settings on "High end" for PC.
It’s not because of the mirror image, but the background rendering with pc settings. I found out it gives me a bit more performance when PC settings are on low. Happy flying my fellow simmer 😃
Are you using Virtual Desktop and switching to VR with Ctrl tab?
I’m using WMR and I have switching to vr binded to a botton on my yoke
Installed it but in PC mode the Frame Gen option is visible but greyed out??
I’m not sure what you installed, but frame gen doesn’t work in VR
Hi, do you need to follow this process every time Nvidia update the drivers or only when there is a update dlls file?
Hi, it’s good practice to do this after nvidia driver updates , but only if you do a clean install and sim updates (msfs comes with dlss 2.4.12)
The DLSS Tweaks adds Ultra Quality. I fly DLAA already for a year on my 4090. Beats the daylights out of TAA and I run Bucchia NIS 20% so all on Nvidia Tensor cores. If you don't need Ultra Quality, can I skip the DLSS Tweaks part? I think so.... The 16X CP and SIM really is interesting. I already do that.
Sure, just make sure you use the latest dlss driver 3.6. and the latest nvidia driver. This will improve dlaa as well. Happy simming :)
@@Virtusim I did everything but I'm not seeing Ultra quality option, also I'm seeing some tearing black lines when moving my head quickly side to side.
Would you please help with the following problem: after executing the DLSSTweaks Config Tool, it only shows global tweaks and on the bottom it shows this message: "DLSSTweaks settings INI not found, only displaying Nvidia profile globals ". What am I doing wrong? Thanks for your help.
Did you first copy the files to the game folder? The files are .exe .dll and .ini from the DLSStweak folder
I would if I could find the game folder. The game was bought in Microsoft store. Any idea where it is hiding?
Hi Mike, I have been following you for a while and have installed your VR setting for VR in 2020. I want to thank you for all of the hard work you put in to help the rest of us get the most out of our 2020 VR experience. I followed your instructions to achieve Ultra Quality setting and the result for me was remarkable. Since then I updated my Nvidia driver to version 555.99 and installed the latest MS 2020 updates. Of course i then entered the Nvidia 3d settings and reset those setting as per your video. However, i noticed that a few of the setting used in the video were now longer available or could not be modified in the 3d panels. Since these updates my VR quality has degraded substantially and now can only get 24 -28 fps with some stutters after getting 42 fps and almost stutter free with your Ultra Quality settings. Last night I followed your Holy Grail Tweak and install the files and settings but it did not make much of a difference and still have not Ultra Quality option in the sim. Not sure if I am missing something or not. Just wondering if you might have any suggestions. I would sure like to get back to the Ultra Quality level I had before. BTW my system is intel I7 10700K, RTX 4060TI, 32 GB ram, and using a Quest 3. I know it is not the most powerful system but it did produce very very good results before. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.
Kevin
Hi Kevin, in dlss tweaker, did you set the dlssqualitylevels to True and added a value for ultra quality? Did should give you the ultra quality setting in the sim. Further try running the sim with an empty community folder and check if you get your fps back. If so, enable your addons one by one to find out which addon is causing your fps to drop. It’s very time consuming. I had to do this several times. Sometimes you have an addon that is not optimized for the latest sim update and causing stutters or framedrops.
"Traffic" caused me no end in framerate problems. I think I spent a couple years fighting this before I finally realized. The thing is in the past I saw this system run this game smooth and clear so I knew it was possible. Today Im glad I didn't simply give up and move on. The sheer quantity of settings and hitting the sweet spot is very difficult. MS doesnt make it any easier either. They could give us a hint at what each setting does to performance and which thread it uses so we can more easily get a thread balanced system.
Purhaps i misunderstood, but you are saying to turn on Anisotrophic in Nvidia, but off in MFS2020? But you do in the video turn it ON in MFS2020... Did i miss something?
Is this with a reverb g2 I use motion reprojection which is really smooth but hate the wobble effect you get
I might try this tonight I have a 4090 with a 5800x3d with dlss set to quality but I also use open xr tool to up scale it
I don't understand, like you i have a hp reverb g2, a rtx3080, and a i9 64g ram, and a shitty result when i get in vr. I tried the mid with dlss tweak and dlss swap, a little better bit still very low fps, the only good clarity i get is inside the cockpit, the landscape is still blury as hell....
Check if your resolution for the reverb g2 is set to 4130x2160 in the windows setting for Mixed Reality.
Strange, It says 2160X4320 instead of 4320x2160 @@Virtusim
thats correct, my mistake. I was at work while answering your question.
Do you also use motion reprojection with your WMR headset? Without MR find VR too stuttery flying low
I never use MR, I find the warping with MR very annoying
@@Virtusimdo you XR toolkit?
I cannot access windows apps seems like I dont have permission and cannot find a workaround for it
Hi Greg, check my friends video how to find the dlss file
ruclips.net/video/Z1WQdTBmkk0/видео.htmlsi=_kd76Q3lX2SWNrL4
@@Virtusim when you say dlss file what do you mean exactly? I have the dlss swapper and can change the version no problem. The issue is finding how to apply to the correct file location to apply the settings as mine comes up as empty. When I try and look for it in my C drive I get to windows apps but I don’t have permission to open it and cannot figure it out. Unless there is another way? Can I save the settings to a file location through steam apps potentially rather than than windows apps as per your video
Hi, I have one doubt: if you use DLAA and not DLSS ULTRA QUALITY, do you still have to twick DLSS? As DLAA is already 100% resolution...
Hi Allesandro, when you only use DLAA, you don’t need to. But when you need that extra fps to run the sim smoothly, you can easily switch to ultra quality or quality. Both settings will have dlaa antialising on top of it because of preset F, which looks better then without it.
Presets do not add dlaa on top of it . Dlaa separate .
Yes, but scaled
Great video..thanks! I am using MSFS via Steam and can't find the game folder for DLSSTweaks. Any idea where I should point it to?
Please ignore above as I used the Add DLL Override as you suggested in your video.
Should be here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator\FlightSimulator.exe
@Virtusim Thanks. It"s under C:\Program Files(86)\Common Files 👍
Hi Virtusim nice graphics, Does it look the same in the VR headset as it does on your RUclips video? Thanks groetjes uit Utrecht
Yes and no, it’s recorded from the headset, but what you see in the headset depends on the lenses. Groetjes uit Maassluis :)
@@Virtusim 😁Thanks man
The runway is not rendering right because you don't have the anisotropic filtering at 16x in the nvidia control panel or the sim. Try using 16x in the nvidia control panel and off in the sim.. same results but if you do a hard analysis you'll find that you're loosing performance. I suggest you to get a Quest. Question for you. What GPU are you using? Someone told me that the 3.6 version is not working on the 4090. I tried 3.5.10 and 3.6 and honestly can't tell the difference. Thanks.
I have 16x on both in nvidia ctrl panel as in the Sim. When I turn it of in the sim, I see what I showed in the video. I have a 3080. My specs are in the video description.
My next headset will be a quest 3, but my kids have hobbies too 😂
I tried the tweaker and looks like the performance is screwed now. I wonder if you know how to revert it. tks@@Virtusim
Sorry to hear that. Just set all to default in the tweaker tool or delete the tool and config ini from the game folder.
@@Virtusim no problem. Apparently today was a bad day for the steam servers so some bad performance might be related to that. I have just tested the sim and now it works great. I think that some connectivity issues are the reason sometimes performance is not stable.
How do I make sure my Sim scale is 1:1?
When you use DLAA it’s always 1:1. You can also upscale in the openxr toolkit
is this any different to using your old process with the Nvidia profile inspector?
The only difference is that you can now change the scale factor for the dlss options. If you used my "old" proces, you can just choose DLAA in the Sim.
@@Virtusim Hi, when you mean scale factor what exactly is that? Also what setting should FPS be market at in the Nvidia Profiler if there is an option. Thanks for your help.
Hi Mike, thanks for your lecture about the VR settings. Took me about a week to figure it out. My game dir was somewhere else.
The result was amazing.
Can you help me out with a little inconveneance? While running MSFS in vr I get an annoing text field in the left upper corner of my view, sometimes red and sometimes green. How do I get this thing out of the way?
Thanks a lot, I think you have the fps counter on. First, go to the Options tab, then select General Options, then Developers. Set the developer mode to ON. Next, in the [DevMode] bar, select “Options” and “Display FPS: You can then observe the FPS readout in the upper right of your display. Click again to disable “Display FPS” and it should go away. You can then exit Developer mode to get rid of the menu bar at the top.
@@Virtusim Hi Mike, Thanks for the suggestion. Aldo I could't find the "Display FPS", it is not in my [DevMode] bar. However I found under VR the "DEFAULT VR API". The defauld was Windows Mixed Reality Open XR-Runtime. In settings of OpenXR the DEV setting was "FrameTime-Overlay" ON. It's off now and the problem is solved.
If somebody else comes with the same problem let them look at the DEFAULT VR API.😁👍
By the way; do you use the OpenXR as Default VR API or the other option, FAKE.
I’ll check tonight. I think it uses the FAKE option, but I’m not sure
Thanks for this video.. Its the first time I have seen anything that is on par with TAA but with improved fps .. I am using a 4090 with a Varjo Aero.
Great to hear! DLAA is less shimmering in my opinion.
Have you tested using DX12?@@Virtusim
I did, but in VR, DX11 works best for me. I also have to use DX11 when recording because my stabalizer only works with dx11
ive followed everything. But when i start MSFS in VR, everything is really blurry. This only happens in MSFS vr.
I run a I7 14900k with an 4080 and 64gb...
What happening? DSC and other games are extremly smooth
It's either your in game VR settings or the OpenXR settings or both.

how are you recording the VR...is that the left or right eye with out the mask?
Hi Mike, I followed the steps you did, but unfortunately it didn't go well . Flight simulator no longer works properly and my Joke and rudder paddles also act very strangely and only work halfway. When the DLSS tweaker was going to replace the files, it interrupted and reported that the files had the same name and then I clicked through and I don't think it went well. Do you know what possibly went wrong???? And do you think I should just reinstall the game or the entire pc? Because reg files have also been placed!? 🤘
Hi jentje, the dlss file doesn’t effect yoke and rudder. Did you install the Dune Expansion? Because the ornithopter causes all kind of problems with controls.
Hi Mike No, I haven`t install that.
No I think the dlss tweaker messed things up.But I think I'll just reinstall the game. It's a shame that the games are such gigantic ones and that they install so slowly, and then I'm just going to try it again because I played with it for a while and the images look fantastic.
When I had just performed your actions, the game crashed and since then I also get a message that I have installed mods and that I am asked whether I want to boot in safe mode or normal mode. and he now also keeps checking for updates where he sometimes gets stuck.
@@Virtusim In the meantime I reinstalled my game, but unfortunately with no results, my Flight Yoke no longer works. and now the steering profiles are also listed twice. Even if I create my own profile, it is also listed twice. Do you perhaps have any ideas ? 🤥😰
😲Sorry to hear that. I think something else went wrong in your system. The dlss tweak registry edit is only to the overide nvidia driver.
Thank you for responding back, I really appreciate it. but I got it all fixed so I can fly again. but it's great that you make beautiful videos like this so that a lot of people can have a much better experience with their sim. please continue with that.
In my setup 7800X3D plus asus rog strix 4090oc, DLSS induces poor results in my Quest 3 with virtual desktop, TAA and 120% resolution and 80% openXRTK CAS sharpening delivers the best graphics and 45/50FPS everywhere with quite all parameters at the max. Of course DLSS provides 10/15FPS more but the picture is really foggy specially far away.
Have you checked which version of DLSS you run? DLSS in DLAA mode is crisper and cleaner than TAA IMO. I was having a similar issue and it turned out I was running DLLS v2.4, lol.
Super! Just what I need. Thanks. :O)
Great, let me know how it works for you, Ard. 👍🏽
OHhh!!! I'm confused, a heck of a lot of steps, for what, my 4090 seems to do fine without any of those side apps
I'm happy for you, but there are other people that don't have a 4090 and they can benefit from this.
Hoe film je in VR? Kan je daar eens een video over maken?
My library is empty, so when I click on MSFS I don't get an option to choose a .dll file, all I get is "Select DLSS Version" with 2 options, Swap and Cancel.
Strange, you should see all the dlss versions. Can you import the downloaded nvngx_dlss.dll ?
BTW Which resolution should I set in the OXR Toolkit?
Does it matter?
Try staying close to the native resolution of your headset. Just play with the resolution to get good image quality and FPS. It's different for everyone, because we all have a different setup (GPU, RAM, CPU etc)
When I downloaded the swapper tool, the new DLSS file was already integrated in the library, no need to download it separately.
Correct, only download it when you don''t have acces to the gamefolder. When I started recording the video, it wasn't there until I opened dlss swapper for the video and then it showed up :)
Ok, super! Do I really have to tweak the files, or is it enough to swap DLLS files? @@Virtusim
Very interested in the DLSSTweaks but my game folder under WindowsApps (like you show) is locked. I also have MFSF in the Packages folder under AppData. I'm confused at to which folder I need to use the "Copy to Game Folder".
Hi, use the add dll overide button like I show in the video at 05:35.
@@Virtusim I did that but when you configure and save, you copy to game folder again. What do I do instead after saving the configuration? Does it update the dll file and I override again?
