Well this answer was a long time in coming but...yes..it was available on the Lonely Position of Neutral. But not on all copies. Somehow my first copy of TLPoN disappeared and it did not have this "quiet" version. But when I bought a replacement copy it had it as a 'bonus' track. I do not remember if I bought the cd's at two different stores. So either they added it to later copies of the album or they had been available initially but not everywhere.
being a teen in the early 2000s was just better, its like being a kid in the 90s, you had the best of all worlds and less of the distractions and not as soft minded. I could go on and on about what makes it great but music was the biggest part, most of it fit each scene it was trying to portray.
Am I crazy or does anyone remember a third version of this song? I remember finding Hover on a service like Napster before Lonely Position of Neutral released, and it sounded like a mix between the quiet and hard rock version. I've since lost it but I remember thinking it sounded better than the album version when I purchased it. Was it like a pre-production mix maybe?

when I bought the album on CD it was imbedded as a CD-ROM file so you had to read it from a computer's CD drive to access it.
