can the race mechanics actually go under the car and "adjust linkage rods" to give Cole only the high gears? Im sure the transmission is totally sealed... am i wrong?
LOL all the comments talking about he couldn't speed up with just high gear. I grew up watching them win races with fucked transmissions and only high gear all of the time. I know Alan Kulwicki did it at least once. Even pitted twice with only 4th gear. People that didn't watch old school stock car racing don't understand how common this was back then.
@@channell11 That wasn't as big of an issue back in the day because people could be on different pit cycles and pitting actually happened under green for normal stops. Also at most tracks they are geared so you're in 4th gear all of the time after you upshift through the gears the first time. Don't get me wrong it is harder to get going from standing still but it isn't that big of an issue. You're talking about maybe a 3-15 seconds time lost (closer to 3 at any track that isn't Dega and Daytona). 3 seconds was smaller than the difference between top tier pit crews and back marker pit crews back then as well. Plus pitstops were closer to 20-25 seconds total and if you go way back there wasn't even a pit road speed limit. It was easier to make up any time lost if the driver or crew was really good. The situation in the movie isn't even unique. Dale Earnhardt did the same thing in an ARCA race once. I'm just surprised so many people mentioned it at all. As broken transmissions were really common back then and it wasn't unusual for people to nurse cars around for hundreds of laps using one high gear. If you knew the transmission was fucked you put it in 4th and didn't touch the stick for the rest of the day for fear of losing high gear all together.
Was Fred Thompson's character (Big John) based Bill France Jr? When I started going to NASCAR races under my Media Pass in the early 2000s, I always thought Mike Helton was a better fit.
So I thought he stole the engine from the car that blows the engine in the beginning of the race. I thought the reason that engine blew was because it was their engine that was leaking when harry was talking to the car in the garage.
Fun fact. The cars are so dirty due to the film crew spraying brown hair dye all over the cars. They wanted the appearance of dirty oil and tires but I’ve always thought they way overdid it.
Reminds me of driving to work on 465 at 7:30am or 11:30am or 1:30pm or what the f ever time it is. Doesn't matter. Too much traffic and everybody drives like A- holes. Especially chick drivers. They're the most aggressive most reckless drivers on the road.
Give 495 in the DC area a chance sometime, especially during rush hour. DC101, a local radio station, used to host a race between one of their DJs vs that year’s NASCAR champion.
When you watch the movie as an actual racing fan, you're just like "this is like watching the 3 stooges" but it's still a good movie...? Don't get me wrong...I like the movie. But you'd have to be a 6 year old to not be saying "what the hell was that" ever 5 minutes watching it
Another awesome video ❤️❤️Am investing my time and money in crypto now, this new price is a clear sign for new investors to come in✅✅.. Yeah, That's good idea.. A trader would be the best option if you are new to investing

The amount of mistakes in this movie is mind boggling, and yet it's such an awesome movie 🤣
Art of the game.
Justin Otterholt- Really Mate, when you say 'Awesome' didn't you mean Embarrassing Joke?
What's Eddie from National Lampoon doing in the pits???
Agreed. I pick it apart but love it
@@quontumleeep9430 thats what I have was thinking of wen I saw the movie the first time

Love how the 26 Quaker car becomes the 33 Skoal car, and then ends up as the 26 Quaker car again. Haha
Dewey Cox is a good pitman.
Cousin Eddy is a heck of a car owner
Well how about that. A side we don't have to fix.
Talladega Nights and Days of Thunder 2 of my top 5 movies of all time !!
0:27 I remember a 7 year old me absolutely losing my SH*T lmfao
for something from the 90's this is amazing minus the mistakes.

You can, but as they illustrated in the movie it's tough to take off from a stop in high gear, so they had to get some speed.

Kyle Busch won at Pocono a with only 4th
Too many kids that are raised on modern engines and new computerized garbage and don't know how ham-fisted NASCAR used to be.
I love the wall move.
Awesome film.. You should put the rent a car scene..
cole trickle is based off of tim richardson who was so gifted behind the wheel, sadly taken from us far too soon.
"Too close to call?"
"Yeah"
Shake and Bake!........ oh, wrong movie. lol
they called it Days of Top Gun for a reason
Now I want a Mellow Yellow
The amount of people who can’t just enjo a movie and always have to base it on real life. Just fucking watch the movie and enjoy it
Give him the high gear!
Harry Gant was really unfortunate
HIHHHHHGGGWAY TO THE DANGER.....oh whoops wrong movie
Randy Quaid’s character is actually based on a real person.
Rick Hendricks.

I am soooooo happy that I never saw this movie.

It's literally Top Gun in stock cars. It's the same movie.

Yeah and its funny how in one clip the cars will be completely filthy with soot, then 5 seconds later in the next clip the cars will be spotless. 😆

I wonder what he did to fix that transmission. Hit it with a hammer, all gears function again, lol
they give him hi gear
It wasn't the transmission, it was the linkage. So they left it in high gear.
@@Hawken707 Now… let’s pray there are no more cautions.
I had a truck where the linkage would bind up. Always had to crawl under the truck at the most inconvenient time
Even if that happened, no way in hell he can speed up that fast being already in 4th or even 3rd gear.
Flying low under caution?
Such as 80s soundtrack....
You just have to remember it’s a movie. Not reality😊
That wasnt gant. It was bodine.

When movies were great. The past five years, Hollywood has been nothing but garbage and there''s no sign that they are changing.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well it's entertaining but chalk full of BS. First and foremost, they DON'T play bumper cars at 200+ mph.
Uhhh, yeah they do
They if they gave him the “high gear”, no way in hell can he speed up that fast starting in likely 4th gear. Even in 3rd he couldn’t.
@@brianschaffer9220 The pace car sets the speed at about 45 mph. He's going to be beating up the clutch, but it's possible.
Well it hasn’t improved over the years.
It was entertaining one time. I have a few friends though who think it’s the freakin’ bible of NASCAR though, me no.
Literally the WORST car/racing movie ever.
