Great to look back on, back to when it was all much simpler and enjoyable.

WOW! Absolutely perfect! It's just like I remember it when I was living in Subiaco as a high school student. And that music... It was my favourite piece of music back then (and not far from it still now)
This is unbelievable! It's like you made this video just for me, absolutely AMAZING Thanks so much for posting!!!

Great to see the old trains that no longer run in Perth. The music does spoil it as you can not hear anything else.

Interesting, Just prior to electification. Did Perth (and Brisbane too) go though a transitional piriod like Adelaide is in right now, will both dmu and emu trains ?
I suspect that Adelaids transitional piriod won't be for long as the people will see the benifit of sparks ( despite the old trains being more interesting to me)

John Sergei Yes, in Perth a mixed service started on the Armadale line in Sept 1991, then EMU only on the same line in Oct 1991 and then electric on all lines in Dec 1991. The infrastructure for all lines was built at the same time.

James Clarke When did all the DMU's go?

    • @jamesc21051979

kye rosendale Mid 1992 I believe, most were sold and sent to Auckland in 1993 and have only just came out of service.

      +kye rosendale
I have seen Adelaide go from 100% Red Hen DMUs ( like bigger versions of the old Perth DMU) to 1990s DMus and new sparks on the sole electrified line.
I've seen Melbourne go from mostly 1910s Tait EMUs to mostly 2000s Emus + 100%W class trams to modern millepides and Sydney EMUs mosly change too.
But Perth's transformation is something else again The passenger numbers show trains are the way, from a rail system, smaller and more rundown than Adelaide to many times more passengers + long new lines built.
And now the maggots on hundreds of grand a year want to F*#!K Newcastle!

Brisbane definately did as I grew up there. Despite the full fleet of 88 EMU's being delivered by 1986 and the suburban system electrified completely by 1988, due to the failure of QR to order enough trains loco hauled trains were operated until 1998. Two of the QR SX car sets (39 & 48) were in Perth during the time of this video.

Does anyone know if they have every replaced the actual train lines on the older lines? Or did they just replace the wood underneath them with concrete and then add the electricity above ?

    • @ianmorris7485
      @ianmorris7485 4 года назад +2

The actual rail was progressively replaced during and after the electrification process, less so on the Midland line I believe as it was mostly replaced in the 1968 conversion to dual gauge.

Vince Abate Unlike today I don't think anyone ever ''ended it'' on those old trains...life was to good and people had brains back then.

You serious? Have you been to the other states? With the exception of QLD, all other stated trains are incredibly basic and old fashioned in comparison to ours.

What are you on? Perth's current trains are excellent by any standard and the network has expanded significantly.
