Simply the best single performance in an individual decathlon event, highest ever score of 1178 points.
No wonder he was rather happy.

It would be the same as doing the following results in other decathlon events:
    100m 9,90s
    Shot put 22m+
    High jump 2.35m
    400m 44,0s
    110mH 13,0s
    Discus 68m
    Pole vault 5.90m
    Javelin 88m
    1500m 3:32,0
based on what would IMO be a likely medal result in world champs or olympic games. Gives some perspective just how wild the jump is.

@@ozwunder69 I looked up the 1178 points equivalent in several events, in the IAAF table. What shocked me were the 110m high hurdles: 12.5?? That's much faster than the world record, somebody effed this up. For 100m you'd need 9.67. The 1500m number is 3:31. Although 3.31 is no way near as good compared to the specialists, no decathlete ever has even a remote chance to run the 1500m that fast at the end of a decathlon.

8.45m in decathlon, it's as anomalous as Warholm's WR last year. Normally even a 8.00 is huge for decathletes.

Of course he has been jumping great for a while now - has multiple 8m+ jumps.

@@veridicusmaximus6010 I wonder if he might have better chances for gold medals if he specialized in long jump. If he did get 8.45m while also doing so many other events, who knows the potential. For now he needs huge improvements in discus and javelin to be competitive at highest level in decathlon score. But age is on his side so anything could happen.

World Athletics, please, give us more combined events. In particular, the sport is missing a sprint&jump combined event, and maybe a throw&put event.
Attempts to make the sport "more dramatic on camera" (cutting competitions down, compressing schedules, introducing weird rules) will never work. Athletics will never be a short-attention-span sport, That's just not what the sport is about. Instead, do what the fans like. The best thing to watch in athletics is when an athlete combines disciplines, and BEATS THE SPECIALISTS. Look how much attention JuVaughn Harrison gets. Or when elite sprinters competed in long jump. Why is no one combining hurdles and high jump? And so on.
