So true. Besides Ed and Jim, uncle Warren's episodes are such great sources of additional comic history, and entertaining to boot. And thanks so much again, Jim.
This still doesn't seem real. The first day when I look and there isn't a new video, it's going to hit all over again like a ton of bricks. We miss you, Ed. Much love to you, Jim.
This channel was a once in a lifetime sort of thing. Having the chance to listen to two high-level & experienced cartoonists discuss comics with this level of insight will never be duplicated. Thanks again for sharing Jim ❤
Each day I dread the thought of the new video will stop. It’s almost like Ed’s passing was some sort of dream because theses videos keep coming. I can’t stress enough that his passing as effect myself and so many others. I keep reading comments on how Cartoonist Kayfabe has reignited so many of us to pick our pencil and ink to draw. To go and scour again looking for books. I’ve posted each day thanking you guys for all the good work you have done.
Deep feels on this. No other channel hits our vibe correctly like it. It's either too much ego or too little charm or some imbalance that just doesn't hit the home target like CK.
Rest in peace Ed Piskor. Such a sad and tragic loss. This episode hit my nostalgia button hard. I was 12 in 1974 when these issues were coming out. It was a time when I was buying them off the rack at my neighborhood 7/11 every month, religiously. I distinctly remember wondering what had happened to that April issue. It never showed up on the rack of that 7/11, and I was checking all month long. It wasn’t until much later when I found it at a comic book shop and saw that big middle finger on the cover. Awesome! Mystery solved. Found out that 7/11 refused to put it out that issue for sale. I still have all those Mads I collected from back then too.
Mad Magazine was a real institution for me in the ‘80s, even if I often had no idea what they were referencing. Great video…Long Live Cartoonist Kayfabe.
I was 9-years-old in 1974 and you better bet I was buying every issue of Mad Magazine off the stands at my local 7-11. Mad spoke to my 9-year-old brain in so many ways and, I believe, really helped shape who I am, at least in terms of the type of humor and comics I enjoy most. I remember all of these issues and many of the strips and gags. I gotta think this period was peak Mad. Such brilliant stuff from William Gaines and company. RIP Ed.
I had a grown up friend when I was in my teens I'm 65 now he had a girlfriend who worked for mad and she used to send mena box of magazines and there paperbacks I was in heaven I loved ( spy vs spy ) And yes I loved the back covers .
It’s worth pointing out that the movie poster artwork for The Sting (parodied on the MAD cover) was rendered by a very talented fellow named Richard Amstel. He was one of the best-known U.S. movie poster artists of the ‘70s and ‘80s, probably his most famous work is the poster art for the first Raiders of the Lost Ark film. Unfortunately, he died in 1985 of AIDS-related health issues.
I can't speak to that drug back cover in terms of why they opted to print that one, but for what it's worth, the image is a spoof of All is Vanity by Charles Allan Gilbert. Someone smarter than me might be able to make a connection between that and the drug tableau
I remember so many of the bits featured in today’s video but I owned none of these issues! Gaines really milked the reprints but I am a better man because of it. Never would have seen these otherwise.
1974 was the year that MAD had their animated special that highlighted racism, the floundering healthcare system, and the automotive industry shrinkflating their products. All things we still suffer from today thanks to boomers.
I’m late to this party but thank you! I remember the issue with the Heads... you lose poster back when I was a kid. I actually clipped it out and hung it on my bedroom wall with the “you lose” part removed from it so it just said “Heads” lol. I thought I was pulling one over on my parents, lol Yep, I was a little brat back then.
Re: Bruce Day 18:00- I art directed Bruce Day on the magazine I designed back in the early 2000s. Sweetest guy with an interesting story. After serving in the Army he played football in college and then the NFL (I think it was the Chiefs? I can't remember). He only worked for Mad for a short time--only 2 issues. Bruce told me he became a born again Christian about the same time and couldn't justify working for Mad. He continued his cartooning career (mostly for Christian publications) up until 4 years before his death in 2015 at age 76. Love you Jimmy. Rest easy, Eddy P.
I was reading the intro to Mad About the Seventies the other day, and the finger gag on the April issue originally read “Number 1 Magazine of Good Taste” but Feldstein inexplicably re-wrote it, so there wasn’t even a gag. As a result, most copies of the issue went unsold (not even remaindered; they just weren’t even distributed.)
It’s so soothing to continue to see these, but Christ is it going to be hard when they stop.
I wonder how many new ones are left to come out? Has anyone said a nymber?
Love you Jim, rest in peace Eddy P
These spotlight reviews with Uncle Warren will be missed. Thanks for one last go round.
Love the CGC snuff videos

Thanks so much. I will miss doing these videos with Ed and Jim forever. Warren

I feel that.
thank you Jim for doing what he wanted.
RIP Eddie P
Looking forward to a video each morning like the last week was all just a bad dream.
KAYFABE FOREVER
27:27 computer font is still used at the bottom of checks to help the machines read the account and routing numbers
Also, shout out for not doing any of the fold-ins

I'm liking and I ain't even seen it. In memory of Ed Piskore. Well MAD magazine was/is cool though. I got the 60's, 70's 80's decades stuff.
Spell the man's name right at least, geez...
Thanks, Jim.
Mort Drucker was one of the best cartoonists of the last decades. It still amazes me how great he was at drawing.... everything!
To hear the love and fun in their voices. Heartbreaking. Just heartbreaking. RIP Eddy. Your art lives on.
Mad Magazine was a real institution for me in the ‘80s, even if I often had no idea what they were referencing. Great video…Long Live Cartoonist Kayfabe.
So hard to watch. Great to see Warren again, though
Yes and so hard to watch for me as well. Thank you, Warren
Nothing better than MAD love from Cartoonist Kayfabe
Didn't expect this to come out today. RIP. 😢
How many are left to come out? Any number
“All is Vanity” by Charles Allan Gilbert Circa 1892 that is what that skull painting is I guess paying homage to on the back of that MAD Magazine.
The reflection of the ceiling fan in the Hip Hop Family Tree cover had me checking my fan... I need a nap I guess.
I love Warren episodes. Thanks for posting Jim - You hang in there. RIP Eddie P - you left a huuuuge mark on comics and cartooning.
Thanks so much, really appreciate. Warren
Crap, Ed is still dead.

Great run of Mad. Great to hear Warren with you. Thanks for posting
And thank you for the sentiment. Warren
Always great to hear the dulcet tones of Warren. I hope there is another video or two with him left in the backlog.
Cannot thank you enough for this, really appreciate it. Warren
Great stuff. Great work Jim. RIP Ed.
I had #164, 169, 170, 171 (or rather my big sister did); I was 7
Oh my gosh. I'll say a prayer for Mr Piskor❤
Another great video. Thank you Jim for keeping these uploads coming. Peace and love, everyone.
Still my favorite RUclips channel! Some fun MAD talk here, thanks for posting! Take care, Jim, miss you Ed!
Can’t believe this happened
08:03 awe man really???
It's ironic how often Ed would honor a cartoonist who had passed away by saying "rest in peace" or by pointing out that the artist died way too soon.
Who can Jim tap to replace Ed to keep this channel alive? 🤔
This is so sad
Love, love, love. Kayfabe!
I had a grown up friend when I was in my teens I'm 65 now he had a girlfriend who worked for mad and she used to send mena box of magazines and there paperbacks I was in heaven
I loved ( spy vs spy )
And yes I loved the back covers .
Also the cover of Mad 171 is "The Sting" with Paul Newman and Robert Redford.

great video. thank you, jim.
2:48 shoutout from Jim Rugg?!
I bought several of those MAD magazines as a kid from my local drug store. Miss those days…
Rip Ed.

Love u guys
They got away with so much because they took no advertising. Once Bill G. died, it was all over for MAD.
Thank you, Jim.
The rob liefeld podcast dedicated to Ed is really worth a listen. A total love letter. ❤
11:00 You notice the skull?
Even way back then they made fun of donald trump.
I remember so many of the bits featured in today’s video but I owned none of these issues! Gaines really milked the reprints but I am a better man because of it. Never would have seen these otherwise.
Warren!
Yes, THANKS!!!! Warren
So... how much of a back catalog is remaining? Ed's family is going to need that Google Ad Revenue.
❤
That MAD computer feature had a gag that said "their dumb mistakes can cause us to make fatal mistakes". Sadly relevant.
RIP
😢
🔥💙🔥
the Saturday Evening post cover was also a parody of Paul Newman and Robert Redford from "The Sting"
1974 was the year that MAD had their animated special that highlighted racism, the floundering healthcare system, and the automotive industry shrinkflating their products. All things we still suffer from today thanks to boomers.

😊
Awesome guys but you forgot to do the gatefolds. Btw do you have any 2000 AD mags? I’d love to see some original Judge Dredd.
I’m late to this party but thank you! I remember the issue with the Heads... you lose poster back when I was a kid. Angelo Torres was my uncle, I grew up watching him illustrate.
Mad magazine: controlled opposition?
my favs were many but i always enjoyed sergio aragones "marginals"
MAD magazine is very anti-tobacco. I began to notice in the comics.
I thought 74 was a great year for being "MAD"😜
8:25 -that back cover is intensely dark! I just noticed the light source is a shape of a skull
love these!
Back when I understood the world.
Thank you.
yooo
❤🙏❤
Great episode ❗🔥💯🤣 lol 👍
Don Martin was the best!
Miss you, Ed.
Rip ed
