Webster Booth & Anne Ziegler: "So Deep is the Night"

  • Rare video footage of Webster Booth and Anne Ziegler singing "So Deep is the Night" (Chopin's Etude, op. 10, no. 3) from a 1946 British comedy film titled "Demobbed". It's a Mancunian film directed by John Blakeley. A weak movie on most levels, with examples of the broad humor often found in English music halls, the two moments with Booth and Ziegler are truly the highlights!
Link to a medley sung by them from the same film:

I love how towards the end he sings in the higher register and she in the lower. Very attractive effect.

Mr jinah s most favourite tune in 1940 s Era. At the historic day of 14 August 1947 when Pakistan became a new country, mr jinnah also asked to play this tune for the memorial of his wife. And musicians played this tune for mr jinnah

I actually came here searching the same. Glad found some fellow Pakistanis like myself lol. Well, interesting fact is that it's the same composition played by Rattibai on gramophone when she proposed Mr. Jinah.

@@me_saudade It's basically a composition/song (an instrumental without lyrics) by Frederic Chopin first published in early 1832. Don't know when it got recorded but surely it was a tune when Rattibai played it on gramophone while she proposed Mr. Jinah (which is before 1920) cuz the first song (with lyrics) recording history I found on internet is from 1940. And I personally love Chopin so was a Aha! moment for me & of course the composition is so beautiful.

You have to ask why did an English girl from Liverpool with an English surname adopt the German surname Ziegler, at a time when Germans were not beloved in this land?
