Kiibo is the audience surrogate, it doesn’t mean he’s right. My take is that his ai is either too trusting, or the audience believes that Kokichi is telling the truth. Technically we’re also unsure if that was his true motive. So I suppose that’s open for interpretation, like many other things in this game.
