Go to Guilin. Go soon. It's one of the most impressive landscapes I've ever encountered. It wasn't until I was there that I understood that Chinese landscape paintings aren't the invention of the artists.
I'm a Chinese student studying in New York now, I have a exactly same experience with you! Everyday I walk out the dorm's door, everything is different for me and I got surprised everyday!!
Poppy is the most liked "big American sister" vlogger amongst Chinese fans (1.4b) due to her style, charisma and unbiased view. Her video has gone viral.
Your videos are one of the reasons why I chose to go to Shenzhen over other Chinese cities to teach English. Thanks for giving me an insight into the city and into Chinese culture. It has helped me prepare for when I make the move in a week and a half.
Poppy utmost respect when I hear you say “to make those videos more journalistic I have to do a ton of research.” You’re really growing as a RUclipsr and glad to see RUclips has been a learning journey for you and not just a hobby.
Amazing video as always. You always come through as very honest, enthusiastic, energetic, positive, and funny. I simply love watching your videos and love everything about you. Keep up your great work, Poppy.
You, along with a handful of other RUclipsrs, are definitely an inspiration to get back to traveling. I used to have the chance to travel constantly, but now, not so much. I decided to go back to school, so it is temporary, and after I finish my AA this year, next year I move to another place for Uni. I'm looking forward to moving again, away from the home town, and friends and family for the challenge of living somewhere while having to accomplish a goal. That will be a new experience. Its not just for a job. Anyway, keep on trucking and inspiring!
Hey Poppy! I just want to say you also have fans like myself who watch all your videos but never left a comment. Thank you for sharing your experiences in China, good and bad. First, I am extremely impressed by your positivity in life. I still remember how you laughed together with the scam taxi driver in Beijing or how you took an adventurous detour in Nanjing. You inspired me on how I can deal with things when I travel to a different country. Second, You may not have experienced this, but as a Chinese living abroad, I am sickened by the biased reports towards China, like all the time. You showed the world the other side of China, the human aspect. The average Chinese people are not that different from the average Americans or European. For all that, thank you for taking the time, making these videos, and sharing them with the world!
Great Video Poppy. Always motivating me and my friends from Australia to be more adventurous and see the world. 2 of us a doing a trip too, Vietnam, Cambodia and then China thanks to your videos and Collins and Jordan's too. Hit you guys up when we're in town. Keep up the great work. Peace
The order should be Cambodia-Vietnam-China, so you could feel the life is getting easier step by step, as you would be more exciting at beginning, so it's better to put the biggest challenge to the front.
I am so grateful for your videos Poppy. I'm going to go and live in China and be an english teacher. Your videos have given me really interesting facts about China so I don't know nothing about it, and thank you for breaking all those stereotypes and misconceptions about the place. I can't wait for my feet to touch Chinese soil.
Poppy, In case this might help you: One time I strained my back and it didn't heal for many weeks. The pain was so bad at night that I couldn't sleep because there was no way I could position my body so that it would stop hurting. I went to a chiropractor who jumped all over me and made it worse. I was getting more and more fatigued from lack of sleep. Finally saw a doctor who told me the reason it wasn't healing was because I was constantly reinjuring it due to involuntary tension from the pain. He gave me a prescription for some muscle relaxing pills. Finally I could sleep without pain and my back was soon healed.
hey, poppy~here is a suggestion from a guilin local...please go to guilin in late march or april cause spring is one of the most beautiful time to visit guilin , also summertime is a good choice as well you'll enjoy the water there, but do not go to guilin in late may or june espacially when it comes to the dargonboat festival...because you'll see nothing but rain and rain and flood at this period of time....
If your back problem is an issue with muscles (like you overstretched yourself causing muscle damages), you can just buy some pads made with Chinese medicine. They are extremely cheap and common and very effective. Been using that for years whenever I hurt myself in gym.
Great video always!! You r my best favorite RUclipsr!! Happy Chinese New Year Poppy!! Can you make a video abt Chinese New Year? Really want to see it:)
Hi Poppy, i have spend almost a entire afternoon watching your You Tube channel, actually, i live in Yantian district, which is the east part of shenzhen. i highly recommend you to visit the east part of shenzhen or you may miss the most local feature of this city. in Yantian district, you can climb and hiking in the tallest mountain in shenzhen Wutongshan"梧桐山". in summer , you will see the most crowed sea beach of China in Dameisha seaside park“大梅沙”. Or, the most beautiful sea in xichong. the most famous and popular temple -- Hongfa Temple. and there are also many interest place for you to explore, such as, Dapeng Ancient City Unit, Jiaochangwei beach...
Great job Poppy keep up the adventure. I have been watching your youtube for while now. There are several places in China that I highly recommend you to go, Xinjian and Tibet in September. Chengdu and Chongging in October. Here is what I highly recommend all foreigners do if you have three weeks or more in China is taken a high speed train from Beijing to Chengdu. But take off in Shanghai, Hanzhou, Nanjing, Wuhan, Yichang (see Three Gorge dams, and beautiful landscape), Enshi for grand canyon, Chongqing for hotpot and awesome landscape, cool outdoor activities (go in October), then, Chengdu a must for last stop in China, then head home and be happy:=))
I've been following you and watching your videos for a long long time, huge fan of you! Love the last question and your answer, travel indeed needs a purpose.
I think now I know the reason that why I like America, because it’s just like you said, there is so different from China, everything is different and new for me, I like experiencing different things, and I am curious about every new thing
I highly recommend Xi'an and Chengdu. That's where the best Chinese local delicacies locate. GO try real chengdu hotpot and go to Muslim street in Xi'an. To see the west of China, totally different from the east.
There's such a big difference between this video and your old ones but you were better from the start than I'd be. And your old camera quality from years back, because of tech compared to now. Big difference now and I saw a video where the Samsung Galaxy S10 can be used for vlogging. Maybe one of these days. But it's awesome to watch you! You're so lucky!
I lived and traveled in china. My daughter was born in Beijing and is a special place, but my favorite part of china is on the other side of the country. I’d recommended visiting Kashgar (Old city)and Qinghai (Ta’er monastery) you can get there by high speed train. I’d highly recommend visiting Tibet😊I’m not a big fan of big cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen, but it’s worth visiting as well.
wisdomleader2017 For Tibet foreigners need a special permit, but for the other places I mentioned you don’t need anything (I just visited those places). It was an amazing experience. China as you never imagined :)
Go to my hometown, ChaoShan area, just 1 hour train from ShenZhen to the east. you will find things, language, food, cultrue... diiferent there. you will be surprised haha. Let me know when you plan to visit there and I hit you up and show you around this very unique place in Guangdong China.
I like the fact you said you would never live in the USA anymore. I now have you to go to and live my travels thru you. I have a family now I mainly do local travels. I have traveled been to little bit of Europe and the West Coast of the US I'm glad I could to see you travel and it excites me.
Poppy health care in China is ridiculous cheap, I suggest you do a body check for your back pains in a big hospital in Shenzhen ,you might try a acupuncture-moxibustion therapy ,it might works
I think for me the spitting was caused by bad air pollution. I used to get so much mucus from the sulfur and dusts in my nose I just had to spit it out to feel comfortable. I use paper napkins to spit. Living in the US I never had to spit, not even once. My nose just doesn't make any mucus I guess the air is the main reason.
I live in San Francisco, and people spit here, and I saw people spit in NYC also. I feel like at least in Shanghai, my hometown, you see a lot less people spitting.
Just subscribed! you are the best travel vlogger in CHINA!!! I'm a native BEIJINGer and you basically covered everything that authentic about my city! your videos made me miss my hometown SO MUCH! Anyway, great contains, awesome videos and hope you keep doing it and will have great journeys in the future!!!

Hm. I was born and raised in Detroit, MI. When I was eighteen or so I ended up traveling across canada and most the Eastern Coast of the USA. Ended up settling down in a relationship for a few years and it just ended.
